Chartiers Creek search for boy resumes
NOV 11, 1991

Volunteer firefighters and divers resumed their search today for a missing 8-year-old McKees Rocks boy who may have fallen into Chartiers Creek while fishing.

William Majewski was first reported missing Saturday night, police said.

Searchers found some of his fishing gear at a spot where he usually fishes, about a block from his Chartiers Avenue home.

Boy's death prompts interest in McKees Rocks case
OCTOBER 1, 2000

The killing last week of 11-year-old Scott Drake was a troubling reminder to Donald Panyko of the mysterious disappearance nine years ago of another little boy.[FONT=arial,helvetica,geneva,sans-serif][SIZE=-1][FONT=arial,helvetica,geneva,sans-serif][SIZE=-1]

Suspect had link to other case
OCTOBER 2, 2000

The arrest of a homeless man for the brutal killing of an 11-year-old Pittsburgh boy unveiled some disturbing coincidences with an unsolved case of a missing boy, a police officer said.

[snip]

The man charged in Scott's death, 47-year-old Joseph Cornelius, once lived with a woman who was close friends with 8-year-old William Majewski, who disappeared in November 1991.

I'm always surprised that their mothers have something to do with their disappearances... the one who should have taken care of you and protected you leaves you thrown away and forgotten... really, if it wasn't her, maybe it was the homeless man who is suspicious even though he should be dead as a couple to be investigated again
rest in peace little one

Identifiers

Dentals: Not Available
Fingerprints: Not Available
DNA: Available

<<Divers and dogs searched the creek and surrounding area extensively. Although the search dogs reacted to a few scents, no other clues were found. Witnesses saw Majewski in the McKees Rocks Plaza. One person saw him talking to a scruffy man in a store. Another said an unkempt man pulled him into a burnt-orange Nova. The man and the car were never found. The possibility that he drowned or died in an accident is slim, because no body was found.>>

I'm struggling to understand the mom's decision to let her 8-year-old go fishing by himself at such a late hour. She last saw him at 4pm, and sunset that day would be at 5:10pm, so it would be getting dark soon and he'd have just one hour to fish.

Then again the "spot where he usually fishes [is] about a block from his Chartiers Avenue home" so I guess this makes it okay? Had he done this before without incident?

Witnesses confirm they saw him alone, his gear was found at his usual spot, and the mom reported the disappearance that same night, so that part of the story checks out.

The proximity to the homeless camp, William's connection to convicted killer Joseph Cornelius via a "close friend," and the report of William being pulled it into a car all raise major red flags, and again call into question for me the mom's decision.

"One person saw him talking to a scruffy man in a store." Was this store on the way to the river? Did William have his fishing gear on him inside the store? If he did, then maybe he just wanted to take a drink or a snack with him to the river. Someone in the store could've noticed this boy alone and followed him to the river from there.

However, if William didn't have his gear inside the store, then this suggests he made it to the river, set his stuff down, decided for whatever reason to go to the store, and that's where he could've been abducted from—especially if his fishing gear was found "undisturbed and there were no signs of a struggle at the scene."
