Because I can't stop thinking about this, I want to share this with y'all....

The Mod Squad is made up of a lot of individuals who vary in personal beliefs from one spectrum to the other. Yet, we all care for each other and get along very well on a day to day basis. This is what we need in our country, in my opinion. Be respectful of each other's viewpoints, vote on issues, and accept the outcome. Sometimes I roll on by, sometimes I am led to speak out - but either way, I love having the freedom to choose.

<Again, my personal opinion and not necessarily the opinion of Websleuths LLC>

Do you know much about them? Because they don't have that big business because of him.. They have it because his son is the one who pushed it all forward into what it was today. That is not how Phil works. I think he is entitled to think what he wants to think. I think that his answers show his backwoods, kind of easy going ways. He was not out to make a statement he was asked a question and he answered it.

Why is it only some people get to stand up for their beliefs?

I know enough to know they are savvy businessmen.

I have never once said he doesn't have the right to his opinion, however much I disagree with it (which I do, a lot). I don't have to agree with someone's opinion to support their right to say it, and his right has not been infringed upon. It was published, so it clearly wasn't oppressed or censored.

I am simply standing up for A&E's right to fire him. He has the right to say it, no one is disputing that. A&E also has the right, as a non-government private entity, to fire him for it.

Unless there is MSM that there is anything racial going on with this topic, the racial comments need to end. They are off topic.

Do people who agree with his statements about gays also agree with his statements about blacks? Just wondering.

I live in Minnesota, and I voted against the amendment to ban gay marriage, which then led to our leaders to allow gay marriage in our state. I am very proud to be among "the first" states to view it as a civil rights issue.

If Phil eats pork and shellfish, then he is going to hell...according to his own views on the bible. Just saying. ;)

ETA: Uganda just passed the "Kill the gays" bill. They took the execution part out...now it's "just" life in prison. I found the legislator's comments interesting: “Because we are a God-fearing nation, we value life in a holistic way. It is because of those values that members of Parliament passed this bill regardless of what the outside world thinks.”

I don't think the public is coming to Phils defense because they agree with him. I think you're missing the point. It's become about A&Es response when all they had to do was make a public statement that A&E do's not hold the same view.

Phil is not. He is not the one who made this the company it was. It is the sons. Phil really is what he is. A backwoods boy who sold some duck calls but his son is the one who made it what it is today.

I think any employer should be able to fire anyone for whatever they want to if it is a private company.

I also think that these days if you disagree with mainstream views you are annihilated and called a bigot and hater immediately.

He does not hate anyone. He is living by what he feels he should in life.

That he would lose his job over it is sad.

Um, ok. They're still successful, regardless. He was smart enough to raise a smart son, we're splitting Robertson hairs here.

I was trying to give the man a compliment.

U do need to understand he may have violated his DNC clause with A&E by doing this interview.
I myself have extreme views on what should be done by A&E at this point and time. It's my most humble of opinions that this show is OVER, and that A&E will NOT align themselves with such homophobic hatred; and or hate speech. That's my opinion on the matter, Duck Dynasty has had it's fifteen minutes and now they are done. And by and from their own hatred spewed from their own mouths. This is NOT what you want your children to grow up believing. Their beliefs, are in and of itself nothing more than hate speech, there is no freedom of Press or Speech if you have a DNC with a company. PERIOD. Esp in the world of Networks. Hate Speech will NEVER be tolerated.

One only has to look at the way they look and dress to understand they are rednecks and proud of it. His ugly comments shouldn't have surprised anyone. I agree it isn't something I want my kids to watch just as I don't watch the reality show about unwed teenage mothers.

What did Phil say about blacks? Re: pork and shellfish, that is in the Old Testament and Phil is not Jewish. ty

From GQ:

Phil On Growing Up in Pre-Civil-Rights-Era Louisiana
“I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”

Oh, its all in the same GQ article. The Atlantic talks about it here:

The Real Duck Dynasty Scandal: Phil Robertson's Comments on Race
His comments about gays are offensive, but his vision of the Jim Crow South is shocking—and his conservative defenders and liberal assailants are mostly ignoring it.
JONATHAN MERRITT DEC 19 2013, 2:45 PM ET

"What is shocking are Robertson’s comments about race in the same interview. Buried under the firestorm of media and public outrage over Robertson’s comments on sexuality is his stunning insinuation that blacks were quite happy in the Jim Crow South:"

They have all been in it together from the beginning. It might surprise you to know that it was Phil that made the first duck call long before it was a business.

It has been a collective effort and endeaver.

I grew up in the South and anybody who would proudly proclaim themselves to be "white trash" is somebody I certainly would not look to "entertain" me. The show is about a wealthy family of racist, homophobic rednecks who hide behind religion. It is what it is.

OK, the article has 3 short sentences with him saying, he worked with them, he was as poor as them, he never heard them complain about it. The rest of the article is the authors 'in other words'.
Another agenda.

Rob, I know what you're saying. You summed it up nicely.

That was the way it was on my grandfather's farm. I am 63 years old and when I was very young, I can remember when everyone worked together regardless of race. After the cotton was in, there would be a big celebration and everyone was there. And I do mean everyone.

There was no ill will and as I stated, everyone worked together. I think (just IMO) there are people who do not realize how life was then. And I do mean way back then. I did not live on a farm, we just visited all the time. My memories are from when I was a child.

I just so disagree with this post.

The Robertson's poke fun at themselves. I do not think he seriously meant 'white trash' in the literal sense of the word, because they weren't. I personally don't think anyone is trash. I also do not like the word 'redneck'.

People just might be surprised at us Louisiana 'rednecks'.

I need a break, lol.

No. Phil started the business when the kids were little. He sold duck calls but he never made it what it was today.. That was when willie took over.

"His first year, Robertson said he sold $8,000 worth of duck calls, and his wife Kay somehow managed to feed four boys on that salary."

I am not saying he has not been part of the success but He has not be a slick business man. He just made duck calls and sold them.

I agree that both of those statements were his opinion only, not based upon anything "factual", except his own perceptions. I agree that he has the right to his opinion, whether I agree with it, or not.

All your opinion, of course.

I can't highlight the part of your post I'm commenting on, because of these STUPID pop-ups that just stated today and are covering up part of your post...people will believe what they want to believe. But you are correct, life was different, and that sometimes gets forgotten.
