GUILTY Parents who killed their child and then covered it up

Leonardo Giovanni Sendejas, 2 years old, 2007, Maryland.

Mother Ruth Petra Sendejas claimed that strangers had broken into her home and tied her and the toddler up, and had put a bag over Leonardo's head, causing his death. She later changed her story and said she had found him unresponsive in his crib and had faked the home invasion because she was scared she would lose custody of him. She was charged with first-degree degree murder. The cause of death was asphyxiation.

In 2012 she pleaded guilty to 2nd degree murder and was sentenced to 15 years in prison - all but 9 months of which was suspended.

Bianca Jones, 2 years old, 2011, Michigan.

Father D'Andre Lane claimed that Bianca was abducted during a car-jacking. But in court, the prosecution argued that he beat her to death for wetting herself. Cadaver dogs alerted to D'Andre's car, and this fact was allowed as evidence during Lane's trial, but he and Bianca's mother still insist that Bianca is still alive and the police did not bother to look for her because they just wanted to convict somebody.

In 2012 Lane was sentenced to LWOP for first-degree murder. Bianca's body was never found.

God I feel awful for not remembering the name of the little boy ... :( There was a thread here, which I am unable to find, I searched several sub-forums. It happened last year. Father reported him missing in the morning and he was found deceased just hours later in a nearby park or wooded area. Father was later either POI or arrested for murdering him because his new girlfriend doesn't like children.

Wow, the rate of mothers who murder their children every year has really risen since the last time I researched it but that was at least 3 or 4 years ago. Back then it was around 440 children being murdered by a parent. I have always felt that much more research/studies should be done to get the accurate number of children murdered every year by parents, bios or steps. I am glad to see someone is doing an in depth study.

But to see now it has climbed to 700 mothers alone who murder their children per year is heartbreaking. WTH is happening to moms now? And they don't just murder their children but so many of them cruelly torture them before killing them, They are even offering them up to be raped by pedophiles and some of these children are little toddlers or even younger and some of these little victims have been murdered. How can someone become so wicked and cruel to the little defenseless children they brought into this world? There is nothing worse than the gross neglect, rapes, tortures, and murders little children have suffered and it seems to get worse and worse. Many of these mothers seem to see their child/children as burdens they don't want to carry instead of precious gifts from God.

This is a very interesting thread since it is parents who claim their child is missing when they are the ones who murdered them.

Back in 2006 Washington State did an in depth study supported by the DOJ and it was about children who had been abducted and later found murdered. In that study, which included 700 solved children abduction/murder cases... where the perpetrator was known... the parents turned out to be the actual murderer only 14% of the time, iirc. 44% of the 700 abducted or missing children were murdered by a stranger and 42% of the time the child knew their offender, such as an acquaintance, neighbor, friend of the family etc.

I will see if I can find that study again and link it here since it is also a study on abduction/murder cases of children. Now what may have happened between 2006 and now is more and more parents are claiming their child went missing when they actually murdered them.

For a long time the MO parents used who murdered their child was to pretend their child had met with an accident of some kind and called 911 pretending to be distraught. We still see that excuse being used in many cases even now.

So is the 'missing or abducted' excuse the new MO for parents now rather than saying they had an accident? Is it because they know pretending the child had an accident is getting more parents caught? And of course there is the sympathy factor too. If they can pretend they have a missing or abducted child they know they can now put up a 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 account asking for funds to help 'search' for their missing child. It would be another way to try and get away with the murders they commit and also collect funds and of course a way to cover up the evidence hoping the child's remains are never found.

While some parents years or decades ago who murdered their child used the missing/abducted excuse to cover up their crime, I think it is being used more often now than before.

Sadly in this country we have way too many missing children including older minors and I do believe that many of them are victims of homicides. And I do think many were murdered by a family member most likely a parent/s but I also think many of them have been murdered by someone they didn't even know....especially the ones classified as runaways. Until the missing are found and the cases solved we will never really know if they were murdered by someone familiar to them or by a perfect stranger. Those who were murdered by strangers are the hardest cases to solve and there are many thousands of unsolved cases so I don't think we will ever really know the true numbers on how many strangers have murdered missing children including minors.

This is a very interesting thread. Thank you for starting it Rayemonde. :)

I understand how you feel Elainera, but don't feel bad. With the sheer number of tragedies posted here, it's easy to misplace a name...you still remembered the little boy's story! I'm pretty sure you're thinking about Brendan Creato.

Child's name withheld (7 yr old) Sydney, Australia, May 2013

Kayla James falsely told authorities that her seven-year-old son died after he had fallen off a pogo stick has pleaded guilty to his manslaughter, in one of the worst child abuse cases recorded in Australia.

In the months leading up to his death the boy endured savage abuse.
Court papers said the boy was starved, beaten, and made to wear nappies.
He was forced to eat his own faeces and stand on a coffee tin for hours.
During this time he had to undergo ‘boot-camp’ style punishment .
The mother originally said he had fallen off his pogo stick and hit his head.

Video footage taken by his mother and her partner, Kodi Maybir, would chart the sickening reign of terror that would turn him into a cowering, fearful child weighing just 20kg and his body a mass of bruises, infected wounds and both fresh and healing bone fractures.

Justice Harrison accepted opinions by forensic psychiatrists who likened their relationship to Stockholm Syndrome or a cult, as the mother surrendered all decisions about her children's care and treatment to him. She even took part in a sickening regime of corporal punishment, abuse and neglect that continued until the boy's death on May 21, 2013.

He sentenced her to a maximum 14 years jail, with a non-parole period of 10 and a half years.

Kodi Maybir was found guilty of murder and pleaded guilty to six other charges, including assault and using the boy to produce child abuse material. He will face a sentencing later this year.

John Ashfield, aged 6, Nowra, NSW, Australia, August 1993

John Ashfield, aged 6 - was beaten to death with a hammer to his head.

His mother, Gunn-Britt Ashfield, 25, led the assault; her boyfriend, Austin Allan Hughes, 20, was a keen participant.
........
A frenzy soon developed: they punched him with their fists, and beat him with the white aluminium rod that held up a curtain.
John was sobbing: "I'm really sorry, don't do this to me, I'm sore, I'm sorry."
Hughes mocked him, saying: "You scream like a little girl."
When John continued to sob, Hughes took a girl's dress out of the cupboard and shoved it over the crying boy's head, forcing his arms through the sleeves.
"He started crying and carrying on," Hughes would later say, in a statement to police.
Death came slowly: Ashfield would later tell police that Hughes had put the phone book against John's head, and repeatedly beat him with a hammer, until John was limp and dazed, unable to sit up on the bed.
......
Several hours passed before Ashfield took her son to Shoalhaven Hospital. In the meantime, she told her other children to tell police John had been beaten by a gang of teenagers while walking through a park.

They were each sentenced to 21 years in jail, reduced to 19 years on appeal, with a minimum of 14 years.

The sentences are pathetic! I remember these horrible crimes so clearly, they all deserve life in prison.

I would include Erica Parsons even though she remains missing, and her death never has been confirmed.

Zysmv3X.jpg

Parsons was reported missing by her brother in July 2013 at the Rowan County Sheriff's Office. She has reportedly not been seen since November 2011.

Her adoptive parents, Casey and Sandy Parsons, say Erica went to live with her biological grandmother in Asheville. They say they have not had any contact with her since February 2012.

Sandy Parsons is serving eight years in federal prison and Casey Parsons is serving ten years for cheating the government out of federal adoption assistance money that was intended for Erica.

The pair continued to collect the money for months after Erica had disappeared from their home on Miller Chapel Road in Salisbury.

Not sure if mentioned, Baby Grace/Riley Ann Sawyers:

"Riley Ann Sawyers (March 11, 2005 – July 24, 2007) known as Baby Grace prior to her identification, was a two-year-old blonde American girl who was beaten to death by her mother and stepfather. Her body was later found in*Galveston Bay,*Texas.

When her body had been found, police began a nationwide effort to identify her.

Riley Ann's identity was confirmed when her paternal grandmother, Sheryl Sawyers, notified police after seeing a composite sketch. Her remains were positively identified through*DNA testing*on November 30, 2007."https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Riley_Ann_Sawyers

Dylan Redwine:

Dylan, age 13, went missing just before Thanksgiving 2012 while on a court-ordered visit to see his father, who lives outside Durango near Vallecito Lake. His remains were found in June 2013 on a desolate side of Middle Mountain – near Mark Redwine's house. His father remains a Person of Interest in the case but so far has not been officially charged.

AJ Hadsell:

"Norfolk, Va. - For the first time since Anjelica 'AJ' Hadsell`s body was found, her adoptive father Wesley Hadsell spoke exclusively with NewsChannel 3 from behind bars.

Wesley Hadsell believes his own family is setting him up - making it look like he murdered AJ.

The 18-year-old died of acute heroin poisoning, but the circumstances surrounding her death are still undetermined."

http://wtkr.com/2015/06/29/aj-hadse...inal-text-messages-were-sent-by-someone-else/

"Southampton County, Va. - Law-enforcement sources are telling NewsChannel 3 that investigators in April used tracking data stored inside a GPS taken from Wesley Hadsell’s work van to find his adopted daughter’s body.

Our sources said that when they examined that data, it led them directly to a house on Smiths Ferry Road in Southampton County. There, on April 9, Norfolk police and other agents assisting them found human remains later identified as those of Anjelica “AJ” Hadsell. She had been missing a month and was the subject of a massive search.

At the time, police declined to say what led them to that abandoned brick ranch near the North Carolina line, but now sources are revealing they essentially followed a trail stored in a GPS unit.

Those sources said the trail showed the GPS typically used by Wesley Hadsell indicates the unit traveled south on Smiths Ferry Road, past the abandoned house, and continued into North Carolina. There, according to the sources, the track shows the GPS unit turned around and traveled back into Virginia. The track took the GPS into the driveway of the house."

The Story Of Lawrence DeLisle And That Deadly Night His Children Drowned In The Detroit River

August 1, 2014 4:59 AM By Roberta Jasina

It is a murder case that was heartbreaking and horrifying. Twenty five years ago, in one of the most talked about tragedies in Detroit history, 28-year-old Lawrence J. DeLisle of Lincoln Park drove his speeding Ford LTD station wagon down a dead end street in Wyandotte, catapulting the car into the deep, dark water of the Detroit River.

It was just after 9 p.m. on Aug. 3,1989. DeLisle and his wife Suzanne were able to get out of the car through the open windows, and surface and survive. Their four children tragically drowned inside the car, 30 feet underwater: 8-year-old Bryan, 4-year-old Kathryn, 2-year-old Melissa and 8-month-old Emily.

DeLisle told police he had a leg cramp that forced his foot down on the gas pedal, and that the accelerator stuck, causing the vehicle to careen down Eureka Road into the river.

http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2014/08...ht-his-children-drowned-in-the-detroit-river/

The lame excuse made by Mr. DeLisle makes me :stormingmad: whenever I think about this case

Thank you for starting to compile this list, Rayemonde (and everyone else).

There have been many threads where someone asks, "Does a parent who accidentally kills their child ever cover it up?" We always stumble around wondering if it's happened.

I haven't had a chance to read through all of these cases listed upthread but, to someone that has read them, has this ever happened?

Post #18 in this thread describes such a case.

Rayemonde, since you started this thread I want to ask you, do you want only cases listed here where parents killed their child and reported it missing or abducted? Or all cases where parents killed their child/children?

I was unable to find a list anywhere of parents who killed their child and then covered it up by saying the child had gone missing or been abducted, so I've started my own.

Rayemonde, since you started this thread I want to ask you, do you want only cases listed here where parents killed their child and reported it missing or abducted? Or all cases where parents killed their child/children?

Just cases where they covered it up by hiding the body and then lying about what happened, or don't hide the body but make up a story about a stranger killing the child or children... Otherwise it would be a very, very long list. And also feel free to add cases where other caregivers such as foster parents, step-parents, partner of a parent, or other close family members killed a child then covered it up.

It's so sad how often this happens :( I know a lot of people are very passionate about the Casey Anthony case, but really she didn't do anything new :( I've seen it speculated that more people have been hiding the bodies of their murdered children since she was found not guilty, because they think they can get away with it like she did... It would be interesting to see if that's true, or whether people are just more aware of these cases now.

I'm also going to add cases where the parents were named suspects but never charged, etc... I wonder if there's a common difference between cases where the parents were convicted of murder, and cases where they walked. And I'm also going to add parents who were wrongfully convicted - what made people so sure they were guilty when they weren't? And how can we avoid such mistakes in the future?
