I went and signed, only took a few seconds. I can't understand why every state hasn't already passed this.

Mark Lunsford Thanks Petition Signers

  • Dear XXXXX,

Two months ago, we asked for your support to help pass the Sexual Predator Punishment and Control Act of 2006 more commonly known as Jessica's Law. We set a goal of 20,000 petition signatures. With your help, we've received over 40,000 signatures representing every state in the country.

This November Jessica's Law will be on the ballot in California as Proposition 83. Governor Schwarzenegger has joined COPS in signing the ballot statements in support of Proposition 83. It's our job now to inform every voter about the new legislation, make sure they come out and vote on election day, and make sure Proposition 83 becomes law.

Mark Lunsford, Jessica's father and Honorary Chair of COPS for Jessica's Law, has been working tirelessly, traveling the country to raise awareness about the new legislation and get Jessica's Law passed in all 50 states.

Click to watch a special message from Mark Lunsford.

Last week, Mark Lunsford visited San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles, taking his message of the need to toughen our laws to protect our kids from dangerous sexual predators. Mark emotionally described his beautiful daughter Jessica and what she meant to him. "Jessie", as Mark called her, was the love of his life. He described the pain in never seeing her again but is comforted in knowing she is with him always in his heart. He has given up his job as a truck driver and dedicated his life to passing Jessica's Law in all 50 states as a tireless child advocate. His hope is that through his efforts to pass Jessica's Law he can help save children and protect them from sexual predators

Sorry about that....try this one....http:www.cops.cc
Since signing the Jessica's Law Petition I've gotten up dates from Monty @ Cops, which has been very informative.

Today I received this, and since I live in San Bernardino County I'm thrilled

  • Dear Friend:

The Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) recently announced nearly $15 million in school safety resource grants to assist 174 local law enforcement agencies nationwide to improve school safety. These grants will help support efforts to improve safety and security at schools making our children safer.

The grants will provide up to 50 percent of the total cost for municipalities to install metal detectors, locks, lighting, and other equipment that can help deter crime. The grants can also be used to cover 50 percent of the cost of security assessments and training.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department will be receiving a grant under this program of $150,130 to improve school safety in the San Bernardino area. This needed funding will help make San Bernardino schools and their staff and students safer and more secure.

The COPS program is an effective effort by the Department of Justice to improve community safety and security through innovative area-specific solutions that combine both federal and local government resources. As a long-time supporter of this program, I am pleased that the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department will be able to take advantage of this funding to improve the safety of students and faculty in area schools.

    Sincerely,

    Barbara Boxer
    United States Senator

WOW,, thanks for posting this. i had no idea.
it burns me up though,, why are we citizens needed to sign this in the FIRST place??? should it just not be a GIVEN?? why the hell do these psychos have so many rights to begin with,, that we have to gather a bunch of signatures to keep children safe?? we here in the U.S. are so obsessed with the idea of "freedom".. yeah, we don't wanna step on anyone's toes.. or take away anyone's right to a free life... it's a slippery slope-- blah blah blah.. yeah,, whatever. how about the FREEDOM of law-abiding citizens and innocent children to just be able to LIVE in peace and not be preyed on by these subhuman savages and perverts????????? where's OUR freedom!!??? we elect our politicians and expect our community leaders to PROTECT us,, so why should we have to work so hard to make them do the job they we elect them, and pay them (thru taxes) to do???

sometimes i really do wish we were back in the old days when someone with a well-placed shot could just end the problem once and for all. we say "well that's not civilized".. well,, how is it any more civilized to live in a society where everyone's hands are tied, and we have to go through all this endless red tape and follow the laws, and the system is so overburdened that things take years... and half the time these guys are let go to kill yet ANOTHER innocent child?? where is the civility and justice in that?

In just 14 days, California voters will decide whether Jessica's Law -- tough sex offender legislation to protect our children from dangerous sexual predators -- becomes California law. Fueled by your tremendous support, COPS has been traveling across California with Jessica's father, Mark Lunsford, on a bipartisan campaign swing urging citizens to vote YES on Proposition 83, "Jessica's Law".

Don't forget to vote "Jessica's Law" in. Mark Lunsford has worked so hard to get Jessica's Law passed in every state and it is so important to the safety of our children.

http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2007May18/0,4670,SexOffendersTexas,00.html

Texas sex offenders who are twice convicted of raping children under 14 could get the death penalty under a bill state lawmakers approved Friday.
The state House passed Texas' version of "Jessica's Law," a crackdown on sex offenders who prey on children, a day after the Senate approved it.
The bill is named for Jessica Lunsford, a Florida girl who was abducted and killed. More than a dozen states have passed versions of Jessica's Law.
Gov. Rick Perry has said he was open to the idea of the death penalty in child sex cases and that passage of a child sex offender bill is a legislative emergency. Perry spokeswoman Katherine Cesinger said the governor will wait to read the final version of the bill before deciding whether to sign it into law.
"The purpose is to make Texas a safer place for children and a more dangerous place for their predators," said Republican Rep. Debbie Riddle, the bill's House sponsor.
Texas would be the sixth state to add the death penalty for some child rape cases, although legal experts debate whether the punishment would be unconstitutional in cases where the victim did not die. Louisiana has an inmate on death row in a child sex crime, but that case is being appealed......

The bill also creates a new category of crime _ continual sexual abuse of a young child or children, carrying a minimum penalty of 25 years to life in prison....

continual sexual abuse of a young child or children, carrying a minimum penalty of 25 years to life in prison....
i love this part. how many times have we seen a case where some1 rapes a child for years yet they do less time than they years the victim had to endure.

Yes I agree, that minimum sentence of 25 to 30 years is great---But the death penalty itself will never happen to these scum, nobody has been put to death for a crime w/o involving a death since Caryl Chessman more than 40 years ago(he was convicted of only kidnapping)--it just ain't gonna happen--and it shouldn't--I'm a strong believer in the death penalty,as most of you know, but not in cases where the victim is not killed--

I hope Texas will pass this law and enforce it as quickly as they do other death penalties. Child rape, when proven without a doubt, is one non murder crime that deserves the death penalty. To me, it's about the worst crime that can be committed.

Actually,I can think of one scenario where the death penalty would be justified for child rape--If the perp has AIDS and knows it, and gives it to the child, and then years later the child dies from AIDS, I would certainly be in favor for the death penalty in such a case

Hi everyone Im new here. I read this and I personally am glad they are doing this.

That child (victim) will never be the same. Their lives and those of their family are forever changed. Many go on and have productive lives, but many many do not. I always try to put myself on the jury when we go through cases here - what would I do? And sometimes 25 - 30 yrs would be life for these scum, some it would mean someone released after serving his time, being incarcerated all of those years, and then put back into society.
