Hi East Coast Neighbors! Keeping warm??

Looking out my office windown and all up and down the Jersey side and the Hudson River Drive (West Side Hwy) is just a string of flashing lights right now with all the emergency vehicles.

The ferry captains are the heroes in all of this with their fast thinking they saved a lot of lives.

I can only imagine how you are feeling. My sister is flying out of Philly tomorrow and this is not what I wanted to hear. Scary

Awww winteryns, she will be OK. These are such freak happenings, which is why they get our attention so much. I will keep your sister and her flight in my prayers tonight though.:blowkiss:

Praise the Lord everyone survived, and prayers for those hospitalized, as well.

as a frequent - but always squeamish - flyer .. this won't phase me from flying again. rather, it has given me even more faith in the pilots and flight attendants that they know what they're doing and will get everyone out safely.

WELL DONE US AIRWAYS!!!

I just came in, but have been reading about this on my iPhone... what the pilots did was phenomenal... superb work on their part to bring that plane down on the river like that and have the plane stay intact. Great work, all the way around, including the mariners on the water getting out there to help.

Prayers for all.. and thank you Lord that this wasn't a major disaster. :blowkiss:

I second that. I do not like to fly - every little sound and bump I think we are going down but this incident actually makes me feel better. The crew obviously knew what to do and they brought that big ol' plane down safely and under control.

All I could think about was the coldness of the water. Good for the pilot for his smooth landing. Wow. Prayers.

Eve

This would be the worst part for me, Eve. What a story!

Thank you.

This has me thinking. I am terrified to fly and must take a sedative before I even go the airport. I'm now thinking if I was sedated I may not have made it off that plane. I've always figured if the plane was going down I wouldn't survive..gonna have to rethink that one.

No...but I'm afraid any animals shipped in the cargo area would have drowned. The only access to that area are the doors on the lower part of the fuselage, and all of those would have been under water the moment the plane settled into the water. Sadly.

US Airways does not carry animals in the cargo areas any longer.

Well, for this US Airways family, this is the best news we couild could get. Sully (the pilot) did a fantastic job. Kudos to the flight attendants who calmed the passengers and got them off quickly. And man, those guys on the tugs, you people ROCK!

I just got done with a news marathon! I live here, and you can only imagine how this dominated our airwaves. i am surprised they actually showed the president! Right linda?
I can't imagine what people were thinking as that plane went down, both people on the ground and on the plane... God Bless that pilot for a picture-perfect "ditch" as they call it in the industry. Robin Roberts said that it was as if the Hudson River were his runway.
unreal...

Thanks Adnoid. I forgot about Passur

If you are familiar with Passur, here's LGA. Set the time to 15:25 and you can watch the whole flight, as he takes off, gets up to 3400 feet, then descends over the Bronx and goes down the Hudson:

Great job.

ETA: N461SA probably got more sightseeing than they were expecting.

Thanx Adnoid as that was really something to watch. The green plane suddenly blips right off the screen o*er the ri*er, right after that big bridge.

I just heard on FOX News there were a lot of heroes yesterday. We thank them all, each one. :blowkiss:

"Picture perfect ditch" - I love that! I really believe that the pilot landing in the Hudson is what saved everyone's lives on that plane, if he were to land on ground, more damage would be done, and landing in the Hudson also put out the engines fires from the bird flock damage. This is really news that makes you smile! :) Not one fatality, a few for hypothermia (it's very cold here). God Bless the pilot, crew, and everyone on that plane!
