Circleville Farm

Where will the retirement community be created? The prime site is an area known as Circleville Farm, west of the Blue and White golf courses. Apparently it does not matter to the trustees that this rich woods and farmland was promised by the University to the Center for Sustainability as its home and the site for its landmark environmental projects. This property has a long history, a connection to the community, and is one of the last old farms, with buildings, woods and farmland close to University Park.

Circleville Farm is best symbolized by the century-old barn that stands alone amidst the fields, as if protecting them, weathered yet strong and comforting, built with beams hewn and shaped by ax from trees of a size no longer seen in Pennsylvania. The barn evokes the sentiment of hard work and simple living which once prevailed here. We can pretend that sentiment still remains, but such pretenses are belied by this shameless deal. Otherwise, it would matter that a portion of this land was promised to the Center for Sustainability at Penn State for an ecological center. Burying Circleville Farm land under concrete buildings and asphalt roads is more than breaking a promise so the deal can be done. Giving up Circleville Farm is giving up the heritage of State College and Penn State and Central Pennsylvania, which is grounded on the appreciation of fertile land, trust in the forces of nature and faith in one's own hard work and tenacity.

But there was money to be made...to heck with tradition, promises and child abuse!

That just turns my stomach more. Somebody willed the land to the college with the idea, I'm assuming, that the land would be protected and non developed.

Just because the DA did not prosecute does not mean he felt a crime was not committed.

There are many articles posted about the police reports not being opened to the public.

Rapes of children in Paterno's showers would have been very damning to his image. An image that was promoted and paid for by Penn State.

I think that if you're trying to sell a retirement community to people the last thing you want is a sexual abuse of children scandal. It wouldn't be he said, he said after the 1998 stuff was released and I could easily see this tanking a place where people want to bring their grandchildren. JMO

I absolutely love that barn!

Then you will flip over this one. Only rare ones like this round one find donors and volunteers willing to restore them. Otherwise, they eventually collapse.

Uh....this is a photo of that magnificent monument that protects and comforts....aka....that falling-down barn. lol
http://media.centredaily.com/smedia...RCLE1.aurora_standalone.prod_affiliate.42.jpg

If this group of barn huggers was so worried about that piece-o-crap barn, they should have made the HUGE effort to fill out one piece of paper and have it placed on the National Registry of Historic Places and then nobody could tear it down. They also should have applied to receive funds from the historic barn restoration fund in Pennsylvania. They could have also searched for donors to help restore this comforting and protecting dilapidated bat house. Donors who give to restore historic barns can deduct all their donations from their taxes (if they are not whacked with the alternative minimum tax). :boohoo:

The barn was not the point (altho I also like it as an example of history of the region and think it would be good to restore and save it)....the point of my post is that in order to build the Village, the trustees and investors overrode the previous promise by the University to the Center for Sustainability to have the land for its home and the site for its landmark environmental projects.

That to me shows this group was more interested in building this money-maker for themselves than maintaining the integrity of a promise for its use for scientific and environmental advances by the school.

Pensfan, your second picture of a barn in post #322 is too large and has completely messed up the margins of the thread.

Would you please resize it or remove it? TIA

Rapes? Do you have a link showing that more than one child was raped in the football shower?

Because of a state law and its status as a "state-related" but not fully public institution (only 10% of it’s funds come from the state), Penn State university police records are not open to the public, as municipal police reports would be. This is the same at all state-related universities in PA including Univ. of Pittsburgh, Temple Univ. and others. This doesn’t mean Sandusky’s 1998 report was hidden.

Besides victim 1, please refer to victim 4 in the GJ report:

"The investigation revealed the existence of Victim 4, a boy who was repeatedly subjected to Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse and Indecent Assault at the hands of Sandusky. The assaults took place on the Penn State University Park campus, in the football buildings, at Toftrees Golf Resort and Conference Center ("Toftrees") in Centre County, where the football team and staff stayed prior to home football games and at bowl games to which he traveled with Sandusky."

The details are also provided in that section.

Also note that JS is charged with 7 counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercouse.

Regarding the 1998 events with victim 6 the GJ report states:

"After a lengthy investigation by University Police Detective Ronald Shreffler, the investigation was closed after then-Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar decided there would be no criminal charges. Shreffler testified that he was told to close the investigation by the director of the campus police, Thomas Harmon. That investigation included a second child, B.K., also
11, who was subjected to nearly identical treatment in the shower as
Victim 6, according to Detective Schreffler."

As has been shown in previous links, having showers with a underage child
is considered indecent exposure and even if the police declined to follow up on it with criminal charges, it should have been reported to the CPS authorities.

I think you are wrong there. There was the 1998 report out there that had been hidden.

After that report Sandusky was allowed to retire with full benefits.

It would have dirtied Paterno's image.

The founder of the Second Mile Club would have been accused of molesting kids.

Members of the board of Second Mile were invested in the deal.

Allowing the deal to go through was not a sure thing by the first vote of the trustee's. It very well could have killed the whole deal.

I agree and as I stated before, I think this whole group knew about JS's activities with children and didn't want it to get out so their project would be protected from scandal while it was being set up. As I also stated before this is IMO and there is no link.

i am pretty certain i just heard an attorney for several of the victims state on the dr. drew show that once they testify, there will be zero doubt as to sandusky's guilt (as if there is any), bc their testimony will include graphic details of his physical characteristics.

gross.

WOW! I wonder if they will televise the proceedings? I hope at least one of the newspapers has a running blog (like the Anthony trial) so we can know what is going on. Does anybody know of a way to follow this live?

You guys are really reaching again.

Joe Pa, Penn State, and the retirement center would not have been "damaged" if Sandusky was reported for rape in 2002. If the rape had been reported, there wouldn't be a scandal. The scandal is occurring because Sandusky wasn't reported.

In 2002, if people had heard about Sandusky raping a child, they would realize that Sandusky wasn't even an employee at Penn State, but used its facility to attack a child. People would see Penn State/Joe Pa/Second Mile as other victims of Sandusky. There would not be any perjury charges or any coverup and therefore, no scandal.

It is a really illogical assumption to make that Joe Pa didn't call the police because of a retirement center investment. (BTW his retirement center investment was $125,000 not $125 million as one post states above.) To a man that donated many millions to Penn State library, $2 million to the local hospital, and $1 million to build a chapel for students, $125,000 is pittens anyways and likely is no concern at all.

It is also extremely illogical to assume that Joe Pa told every person, who his business advisor invested with, that Sandusky was a pedophile.

If you investigate months from now, you will find that the wealthiest individuals around State College continue to invest in business startups because this is what wealthy individuals do. The grand jury report won't alter their investing in the future and this same information wouldn't have had any affect on their investing in 2002 if Paterno had contacted the police.

It has been repeatedly stated in the last 2 pages, that the wealthy board of control members, who volunteered at a charity which helped 100,000 children annually, knew about Sandusky in 2002. Please post verification. (It is my opinion that Raykovitz, the child psychologist knew because of his education and position at Second Mile for 28 years, but this evidence hasn't been released either.)

The only reach is in trying to pretend that this deal would have happened anyway had this freak, Sandusky, been exposed in 2002.

In 2002, Jerry Sandusky WAS the Second Mile. He had not yet, *wink, wink*, disassociated himself from the organization. He was still the highly visible, ever grinnin, face of the organization HE founded. Pinnacle and this project was a venture of partners from both Penn State University AND the Second Mile. For crying out loud, one was Robert Poole who was CHAIRMAN of the Second Mile board of trustees. Had this monster been exposed in 2002, the consequences to that organization would have been just as devastating, perhaps even more so, as it has been today. At least now, in 2011, they can whine away that Sandusky hasn't been a part of the organization, *wink, wink*, since waaaay back in 2008. According to the article, Pinnacle had just secured financing for the project in 2002. That financing was certainly based, in large measure, on the financial wherewithal of Pinnacle's partners. To pretend that Poole would not have been just as negatively impacted in 2002 as he is going to be today, would be naive. The recently acquired financing could have very easily been pulled by the lending institution with cause.

Aside from the construction financing impact, what do you think would have happened to the marketing ability for this project? Since the project never was a blazing success anyway, how badly would a deeply immersed child molester have affected their sales ability? According to these articles, "kindly ole JoePa" was even holding "pep rally's" designed, in large measure, to kindle and promote interest in this project with elderly, wealthy, alumni. What in the heck would he have said at these rally's THEN? "We ARE Penn State.....everybody, that is, except ole creepy Jer"?

As far as I'm concerned, the proof of what would happen to this house of cards in 2002, had Sandusky's deplorable acts been exposed, happened last Wednesday less than 30 days after this freak was finally exposed:

The Village's nonprofit owner filed for bankruptcy on Wednesday. The filing indicated that Pinnacle was never repaid its initial investment, and that $18.8 million was owed to residents who moved out and demanded refunds on their entrance fees.

http://deadspin.com/5865111/joe-pat...-sandusky-was-caught-allegedly-sodomizing-boy

One thing's for damn sure. I'll bet the elderly, retired people who are owed this $18,800,000.00 from this bankrupt project WISH this piece of crap had been exposed in 2002. Most would likely still have their money.

At least 5 Sandusky accusers expected to testify

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57337420/at-least-5-sandusky-accusers-expected-to-testify/

(CBS/AP) A source close to the investigation into sex abuse charges against Jerry Sandusky tells CBS News producer Pat Milton that at least five alleged victims, possibly all of the eight named in the grand jury report, are expected to testify at a preliminary hearing next week.
-------

In a statement Monday, Sandusky's lawyer said he's looking forward to questioning the witnesses against his client.

"Although the preliminary hearing is not a trial, but simply a probable cause proceeding ... we will, for the very first time, have the opportunity to face Jerry's accusers and question them under oath about their allegations," Joe Amendola said.

Our view: Time to lift veil of secrecy at Penn State

http://www.centredaily.com/2011/11/27/3000420/time-to-lift-veil-of-secrecy-at.html

Penn State has long been shrouded in secrecy, making it impossible for legislators, media and the general public to have access to its innermost workings and financial records.

Some say that it is this secrecy that has contributed to the Jerry Sandusky scandal that has rocked the Penn State and surrounding communities.
-------

In 2007 then-President Graham Spanier vigorously fought a proposed expansion to the Open Records Law for Penn State and the other state-related schools, citing concerns about privacy to donors, compensation packages for staff and issues of intellectual property rights, among other reasons.
--------

We agree with Rep. Kerry Benninghoff, R-Bellefonte, that it is time to close open records loopholes. It is time for Pennsylvania to re-examine its noncustodial relationship with Penn State and the other state-related universities and make them accountable to residents.

Some are saying that ALL EIGHT are in the warm up circle ready to tell the world about this piece of crap!

All eight of the boys allegedly sexually abused by former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky will testify against him when preliminary hearings in the case begin next week, according to people close to the case.

News that all eight victims will testify against Sandusky is a blow to his defense. Sandusky's lawyer Joe Amendola had previously told ABC News that at least one of the boy's had denied that he was abused.

http://abcnews.go.com/US/penn-state...jerry-sandusky/story?id=15085783#.Tt1DXmFmNtJ

By the time these 8 testify to THIS bit of graphic detail, Mr Lawyer might not be wanting to talk as much:

i am pretty certain i just heard an attorney for several of the victims state on the dr. drew show that once they testify, there will be zero doubt as to sandusky's guilt (as if there is any), bc their testimony will include graphic details of his physical characteristics.

WOWZA Mr. Lawyer!

Jerry Sandusky's attorney says interview was chance to meet client

Read more: http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2011/12/05/132147/jerry-sanduskys-attorney-says.html#ixzz1fmNBg96V

Jerry Sandusky’s attorney said Saturday his client’s interview with The New York Times was a way to offer Sandusky’s side to “as many people as possible” and familiarize the public with his client’s inarticulate manner of speaking.
-------

Amendola said Saturday that Sandusky doesn’t answer questions right away and takes time to think about them. He said Sandusky didn’t do many interviews while he was Penn State’s defensive coordinator.

“People just assume ... that he’s an articulate and good speaker,” Amendola said. “But he really isn’t.”

But those who know Sandusky, Amendola said, know “he reflects on everything he says.”

Amendola said he’s known Sandusky for six or seven years. They met when Amendola volunteered with The Second Mile, the charity Sandusky started in 1977.
-------

The stutter defense? LOL...I thought I read that JS has given many speeches at other schools, etc.

That's interesting that he "doesn't answer questions right away" but "reflects on everything he says."

Yeah, good tactics for an accomplished liar. :furious:

I think this is the Jimmy Stewart defense - that Sanddusky is just a plain old guy who hems and haws - "Aw, shucks, ma'am, we was just horsin' around." And he loves those boys, like Jimmy Stewart the scout leader in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, in a hands-off naive and shy kind of way, nothing to see here, just move along.

Attorney: Client claims Sandusky sexually abused him in 2004

A Harrisburg attorney said Tuesday he’s representing a man who’s alleging Jerry Sandusky sexually abused him in 2004 during a Second Mile program on Penn State’s campus.

Chuck Schmidt, of the firm Schmidt Kramer, said he plans to file a civil suit in a few weeks against Penn State, The Second Mile and Sandusky, likely in Dauphin County. Schmidt didn’t disclose say where his client lives today, to protect his identity.
-------

Schmidt said his client, who’s 19, was 12 when the single instance of alleged abuse occurred.

This new complaint is being investigated by state police and the AGs office....Oh, wait, wait, wait...I thought JS was told not to bring anymore children to the campus in 2002?

I think it's a sign that Jerry has no remorse and still thinks if he explains it away then people will understand his actions.

But I read most of the Grand Jury report last night, and what struck me the most was that he basically attacked those children and took them by surprise. They were so young that they didn't even understand what was happening until it was over. :furious: If Sanddusky is trying to prove that he was just fooling around and the boys consented, he is delusional.

Several of the victims state that he progressively became more and more intimate with them just to see what they would do, like an experiment - he was looking for a passive victim. Anyone who stood up to him or got away from him, he wouldn't bother again, but he also would cut out the gifts and the trips.
