I believe Lenny, a character in Of Mice and Men was characterized as an overgrown kid, but that didn't make him harmless, or keep youngsters safe around him.

Glad that, having grown up in a sports environment, it didn't include showering with coaches. (Shudder.)

And it shouldn't...after a game with a group of boys (or girls) showering, no coach should even be there unless there is a fight or somebody has an accident...

It creeped me out to read the not so subtle ways JS insisted the boys shower with him, wouldn't take no for an answer, wouldn't let them use a different shower when they tried to avoid him. And in the hotel rooms and the basement (house of horrors) they were also captive to him.

As far as the collusion, these events happened with different boys at different ages over a period of 15 years or more...I'm pretty sure the victims did not all know each other at the time, even if they have communicated now thru their attorneys.

And the fact that their experiences with JS are so similar just shows that he continued to use what worked for him to get what he wanted, over and over...as Pensfan says he was fixated on this age of child and method.

I hope even without expert witnesses, the prosecutors can ask questions that will bring this type of pattern out clearly for the jury.

Things may not be as grim for Jerry Sandusky as they seem, Philadelphia Weekly informs us today. The reasons for that are codified into Pennsylvania law:

1.) Trial judges are required to instruct jurors to factor in how long it took for victims to report their allegations of sex abuse to authorities, even though that time difference is known to have no relevance to the truth of their claims.

2.) Expert testimony in sex assault cases is not permitted.

Penn State coach Mike McQueary expected to testify, defense will call no witnesses at Tim Curley-Gary Schultz hearing Friday


Attorneys for two Penn State officials charged with perjury and failure to report a crime in the Jerry Sandusky case won't be calling any witnesses of their own at a preliminary hearing tomorrow in Dauphin County court, according to two sources close to the case.

Assistant Coach Mike McQueary is expected to be the main witness at the preliminary hearing, according to the sources.

Ousted athletic director Tim Curley and vice president Gary Schultz are looking forward to the hearing so they can "start the process of clearing their good names and demonstrating that they testified truthfully to the grand jury," according to a statement released by their attorneys.

The hearing is only to establish that prosecutors have enough evidence to go to trial, and so defense attorneys won't be able to attack McQueary's credibility, even though that is the premise of a perjury charge.

Instead, cross examination is limited to the truth of the statements made by witnesses.

Michael Boni, an attorney for Victim One in the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse case, disputed claims from Sandusky's defense that alleged victims knew each other and were colluding against Sandusky.

Boni, appearing on CBS' "The Early Show" this morning, called those claims "ludicrous" and said Victim One did not know any of the other nine alleged victims.

To that point, defense attorney Joe Amendola outlined his belief that some, not all, alleged victims knew each other. We know for a fact that Accusers No. 2 and 6 know each other,......

Jerry’s attorney recently mentioned that Jerry had some type of early trauma and that was why he acted like a kid (football helmets were not padded decades ago to prevent concussions/traumatic brain injuries). I think they will try to capitalize on traumatic brain injury theories to excuse his immaturity and lack of judgement about showering with boys, wrestling with boys, and his constant desire to associate with children. Because some of the boys knew and called each other, the defense will spin their allegations as collusion to obtain money from Sandusky.
