This whole showering with the kids has me very upset. Same with showering with granddaughter! Nephew was about 7 when he refused to enter the ladies room with his mom and me when we went shopping.

We let him use the men's room. If he wasn't out in a decent amount of time, we'd open the door and shout his name. We also tried to listen before he went in to see if there was anybody in there.

There are too many sickos out there. I think we've met a big one in this trial.

Thanks for the updates from the afternoon session everyone!

I am all tearful after hearing Victim 9's mom's testimony. I hit close to home for me. A former student of mine was sexually abused and she would throw her underwear away in the girls bathroom. When #9 said he bled from the anal sex and that 'he dealt with it', I thought to myself, 'he threw away his underwear just like **** did'. NO child should ever feel such shame!!!!

As far as the weirdo granpa taking his granddaughter into the mens locker/shower room at the YMCA.....NOT Cool regardless of her age! As a mother of both a daughter and son, I am appalled! IMPO, this witness hurt the defense.

Maybe all of Jer's friends suffer from HPD!

Maybe Amendola doesn't have much else so now his tactic is to say that the 'alleged victims' are IN IT for the money and so are their lawyers. :twocents:

It is a long shot. Victim 6 doesn't fit; his mother reported it in 1998. Obviously McQueary and Calhoun are not in it for money; it's doubtful Calhoun knows what money is at this point. :(

I'm thinking HPD stands for Hulking Pedophile Dumbasses! And I think maybe they all could be. Birds of a feather and all that! Makes me sick. jmo

Gotta disagree - it's not even a good idea for a girl child to accompany Grandpa into a restroom, let alone a shower.

I think that testimony is beyond creepy. Grandpa wasn't just exposing his granddaughter to himself - which is bad enough in a family situation and bordering on incestuous - he was exposing her to every other man or boy in that shower area. That might actually be illegal....

As a mother I question why they had to take a shower anyway. Why not just go home and shower? This whole thing stinks!!! :banghead:

Perfectly explained, ThoughtFox.
In this occasionally miserable world, protecting children means you don't assume that your own trustworthiness extends to everyone around you. Presumably Anderson would not post nude photos of his grandaughter for other men to see, why should he expose the actual child to anyone who happens to be in a locker room? If someone is attracted, he can find the child more easily than if this was just a random public restroom.

And yes to ThoughtFox about the whole shower ritual - it could wait. Anderson is so self-centered that he isn't willing to delay his own shower out of respect for the child.

Found this, maybe an explanation for short afternoon:

Another short afternoon of #sandusky testimony. Defense had a problem with witness scheduling. Start again tomorrow am

All Amendola can do is ask the lawyers about their contracts with their clients. However, he can't ask what the lawyers discussed with their clients due to attorney-client privilge. Those who have spoken on IS have focused more on the way they are guiding their clients through the trial process. I don't remember any of the victims stating that they had plans for a civil suit.

If the lawyers were smart, there won't be any mention of representation in a civil suit at this point. Let's cross our fingers.

As far as civil suits go, if Sandusky is convicted, he's fair game for civil suits as well as Penn State, Second Mile, and anybody who covered for Sandusky.

As we all know, the defense is saying that all the victims are lying so that they can file these suits. Quite frankly, after hearing about their testimony, I believe they truly were victims of this man and those who covered and are possibly covering for him now.

As for the fact that the closings are tentatively scheduled for Thursday and that the defense has suffered "technical" difficulties, today, well, perhaps they see the current defense going over with a thud and have decided to totally revamp.

Tomorrow should be very interesting to see where they jump next.

I think the defense is changing horses in the middle of a stream, in a dangerous current.

Bellefonte — The attorney representing alleged victim No. 5 (and several others) has been subpoenaed to testify for the defense in the trial of former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.

Tom Kline has been ordered to appear and to take with him “any fee agreement between your firm and the accuser/alleged victim 5, as well as, communications between you and the media, communications between you and the PA State Police, and communications between you and the Office of the Attorney General and/or any other government representatives.”

Hasn't the defense had over a year to do all this? Why are they waiting until middle of the trial? Why isn't this attorney client privilege? I don't understand how they can do it jmo

Even if acquitted, he can still be subjected to civil suits. Victim 1 can't sue Penn State, because nothing happened on campus.

I am wondering if any of the attorneys just recently made some kind of moves towards a civil trial OR some kind of media deal.

Can a center county local call the YMCA and ask their policy on children showering w/ adults? I am curious because this needs to be addressed if this is indeed happening.

ETA I have been a member of several gyms during my lifetime and each one offered child care services/

:maddening:

It depends on the age of the child. I have seen naked toddlers, including a neighbors who ripped off his diaper and ran down the street.

She's 10-12, no, it is not appropriate.

I haven't been through all of the posts from today yet, but I wonder if the YMCA showers aren't set up differently than the Lasch Building showers. Most school athletic locker rooms I have been to have the large, communal shower room that it sounds like Lasch has, but health clubs often have shower stalls with curtains for privacy.

I wonder if Prosecutors thought to ask the ex-coach if he would strip his granddaughter down in the shower room at Lasch Building with several other grown men who were unrelated to her?

To me, that is unfathomable. If he would reply yes to that, then I would have to question his competence to provide for the safety and welfare of his granddaughter.

Nah, I don't think so. This is just the Defense hoping to raise reasonable doubt, and it's really a sign that they have nothing else and they know it.

(That's what my daughter said, and she's just out of Law School. But really just an opinion.)

The more I think about this - I am thinking it didn't happen and on the slim possibility it did I bet there were registered complaints.

I will only join a gym that has a child watch and not all do. But ALL Ymca's that I've gone to do. I bet there's a lot of scrambling right now going on at the local Y's to determine how/if this happened.

To the national viewer, it comes across that this community is just a bunch of older pedophiles and NOBODY in this area has any regard to child safety. OF course this can't be true, but geez. Every coach showers with kids? NO THEY DO NOT. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. Do they think the jurors are stupid?

Please tell your daughter that we appreciate her opinion. And KUDOS to her for completing law school! I wish her all the best on her bar exam!!:rocker:

I understand your frustration, but from the mother's perspective, she has no choice. I have a 6 yo boy who always accompanies me into the bathroom/dressing room. I cannot send him into the men's room by himself; it is too unsafe. I was in San Diego when Matthew Cecchi was murdered while his aunt waited outside the men's bathroom for him. I am unwilling to take this chance with my child.

However, he has never tried to peek at anybody and he is reminded each time we are in there that he is to look straight ahead and look at nobody. For the record, I would not bring him into an open dressing room where he could see other ladies undressed - I'm just talking about dressing rooms at department stores - not locker rooms.

Thank you very much BrownRice. My children's safety is paramount and I am not about to leave them somewhere while I go to the bathroom. I take them into a big stall and that's it, the rule is look no where, touch nothing, then we wash our hands and go sanitize! I actually like Targets and other stores that have family restrooms. Wish more places had those!!
