I thought Dan Patrick said it best on his radio show yesterday, for the Penn State football fan, this is about Joe Paterno's legacy. Just as it was for everyone involved in the 2001 incident -- McQueary, Dranov, Curley, Schultz.

It's not about trying to protect PSU. I believe that gets lost on the non-sports fans. It's difficult to comprehend that the PSU football fan would rather protect the legacy of JoePa even if doing so would be detrimental to his alma mater.

One surprising aspect of this trial, to me, it how little Paterno's name came up - don't think that will be the case in a trial for Curley and Schultz IF they go to court and don't take a plea deal.

If Sandusky is found guiltiy any body think Curley & Schultz will jump on a plea PDQ?

Paterno was never a direct witness here.

What interested me is that, in the opening (and before the trial), Amendola was making this argument:

Gricar was a great DA.

Gricar didn't even prosecute on Victim 6.

You should convict on Victim 6.

After the opening, you never heard that, and you heard no direct rebuttal of Schreffler or anything about Gricar after that. JKA, who was on defense witness list, was not called. I doubt if she would contradicted Schreffler, from her statements.

I think they might, Tipstaff. Especially Shultz, since the e-mails between Spanier and Shultz were discovered.

It all sounded very reasonable until former FBI director Louie Freeh began poking around on campus after being hired by the board of trustees. Since that investigation began, Freeh was able to recover e-mails between Spanier and Schultz that were thought to have been deleted permanently.

The evidence was turned over to the Attorney General's Office, and, according to published reports, the e-mails make it clear that Spanier might not have been accurate in his recollection to the grand jury. In one e-mail, Spanier is alleged to have written that turning in Sandusky wouldn't be the "humane" thing to do. Oh, boy.

I am hoping that the judge reconsiders this decision and would let one Reporter tweet to a pool situation. Let a deputy sit alongside the reporter (I suggest Sarah Ganim) and let her tweet/text the verdicts to a pool.

Kind of draconian of the judge to be this inflexible IMO.

He didn't let this become a circus, so I trust his judgment on this too.

Just read through the letters...creepy yes...and "Jer" has a problem...all the letters sound like someone searching for attention and acceptance.

It is so much easier for someone like that to search out those that are weaker, more vulnerable to prey upon...

When will we as a nation wake up to the fact that life is more than just getting what I want, what I need and looking out for our children and those most vulnerable.

I hope JS gets justice...for the victims sake and possible future victims. But we need to stop this cycle of hurt people hurting others...we must learn to heal.

Good morning, everyone. Mamabear, the last part of your post is what worries me. If he is acquitted, his behavior will not stop. It might for a little while, but eventually he will go back to abusing young men. He can't be "cured", so, yes, he needs to be somewhere that won't give him access to future victims.

:jail: is a good place for him.

I understand your position on Paterno as you have stated in the past - and you know mine - Paterno was in this up to his big glasses. I continue to believe that he and his reputation are being protected.

As for the judge it is not that I don't trust his judgment- I want instant gratification! LOL

Good morning all, hope there is a guilty verdict today and JS doesn't get to smirk at the prosecutor or boys anymore!

I'm going to still use WGAL and WTAE for twitter, but I'm trying out a different twitter today from ABC27 in Pa., was reading it some last night and liked their info. They also have Notes about each day of the trial happenings, including both closings. Here is an article from today:

Sandusky jury asks to review McQueary's testimony

Unofficial poll of people gathered on courthouse steps..defense had a strong closing but not enough to sway them. Thoughts? #Sandusky

JeanCasaurus on IS said if jury were to walk by a paper stand and see the news about Matt being abused that it would be a mistrial. Said that's why judge is being so scrict with sequestering the jurors.

As an alumna of Penn State I have to say something.

So much of central Pa is tied to Penn State, it's
Everywhere. Everyone has a connection in some fashion.
It was the only place I applied to, the only place I ever dreamed of going.

When people say that they think he'll get off because of his "legendary status" I have to disagree.

As an alumna, I'm so disgusted and hurt by the stain his actions have brought on my beloved alma mater, that I can't see straight. I would be more likely so lean to convict rather than aquit just because of his "reputation".

It's so hard right now to admit where my diploma is from, but I hope that when this is over people will think of us and remember us for our hearts: the millions of dollars raised for the 4 diamonds fund and how Alumni banded together the weekend after the scandal broke and raised over 11 million dollars for rainn, a charity that provides help for children of abuse.

I hope that in the upcoming hours that justice will be served, that these victims can find some way to go on and heal and that people will think of Penn State for the good we do and not just for the actions of one horrible, terrible monster.

dotties hearing.

somebodyasked dottie in trial if her hearing was OK.

she responded that she could hear noises.

it was the wrong question.

she should have been asked if she could care.

not that it would have mattered.

Here's hoping the victims of this abuse gets the closure they deserve today.

Maybe the jury will come to a decision before I have to go to bed *crossing fingers*

Well, I guess you all know my opinion on that by now, lol. I agree about Paterno, he knew since back in 1998 about JS, if not before just from what he saw and heard. And he knew and admitted he should have done more and he wasn't just talking about 2001. That's IMO.

As a proud alum and ex player for the University of Georgia, I understand your pain and your pride. My words for Sandusky have been harsh, and at times brutal, but NEVER have I lost sight of one thing in all of this:

YOU, and millions like you, ARE PENN STATE!

Not Sandusky

Not Curley

Not Shultz

Not Spainer

But YOU!
