Hey, J. J., maybe tomorrow we'll all have more to argue about than the definition of words...lol

What will you say if it is proven that Paterno WAS the ringleader in the cover up?

If there is solid evidence, that his statue should be pulled down (for abject stupidity, if nothing else). I think there would have to be a lot more than we've heard about.

Whoa....

According to college football talk, McQueary was not interviewed by the Freeh Group. How is that possible????

That would be the best possible outcome for PSU. It would allow everyone to move on. I don't see it happening, however.

Gosh, I wish it was 9am.

This is like waiting for Santa.

If there is solid evidence. Short of that, maybe just admitting that Paterno was not perfect, and painting out that halo on the mural, would be enough.

They had his testimony from the grand jury.

Lubrano has already stated that, unless there is a "smoking gun," Paterno should be honored. The FANatics will never accept a compromise. It's either black or white to them, and I think there are going to be many shades of grey in the Freeh report.

I would favor naming the stadium after him, if he was aware of the cover up. He has had enough honors if that is what he did.

Maybe the plan was to let Paterno get his record and then retire. He did make a lot of money for the republican party and had great connections. Then, after Leroy Zimmerman's son in law gets elected as state AG, he could break the case. This could then be used to get rid of undesirables and leverage Tom Ridge as board president. This would give control, to select political allies, of billions of dollars with much oversight. The acting state AG, between Corbett and Linda Kelly, put a kink in their plans by assigning more investigators to the case.
Just thinking aloud...

I know but he's the central figure to the Sandusky case that led to the unraveling. Wouldn't they want to still talk to him?

I thought JoePa was a big democrat??

You would think they would want to ask him if he was encouraged or told by anyone to keep his mouth shut about what he knew in the years after 2001. Freeh said he was also looking at why MM got his promotion so it looks like they would ask him about that....

I doubt it. The AG's Office called Curley and Schultz on 1/12/11, while Corbett was still AG. The investigators got assigned when Bonusgate began winding down.

They apparently didn't discover Victim 2/McQueary until October or November of 2010.

NOT

Sorry, as I said, I type so fast I leave out words. :)

I would not favor naming the stadium after Paterno, if he was aware of the cover up.

McQueary didn't make the decision himself; someone else made it.

Scathing--and I agree with every word.

"It is a tragedy that will be linked with Penn State for generations, because Paterno failed miserably as a leader, educator and human being. He was the man with the real power to stop the sexual abuse of young boys in his locker room. Yet he did not do it."

I agree that this was not a football or academic scandal. It was a leadership scandal. Paterno was part of that leadership, but he wasn't all of it.

I don't know that Paterno had the power to stop it, but he did have influenced with the people that did. He had the influence to ask those people if it was properly investigated and if it was true. It sure looks like his influence included approval of not reporting it.
