Natalie was the first case I followed. It's so sad that other girls had to die before JVS is prosecuted. I wish his father was still alive to see this. PVS and the LE who covered for JVS are responsible for this girl's death.

Not defending him, but left room that whatever occurred in the hotel room may have happened after VDS checked out.

She was clothed when her body was discovered. VDS probably dressed her purposely as part of setting the scene to be able to claim that she was alive and well when he left her.

ETA: Just heard she was wrapped in blanket from VDS's hotel room. Dressed?

I don't agree with that. Why be so sloppy and not plan things out if ritualistic. He would have planned to dispose the body etc. I just think it was an opportunity he saw and then in a rage he murdered the girl and fled.

I don't think that he wanted to hide his handiwork this time. He's infamous now. Maybe he wanted to flaunt his work this time with a cocky "in your face" attitude.

It makes me wonder if he is one of those that has a sudden urge to kill and just does so, regardless of circumstances. Unplanned, just attack.

The fact that this happened the very day, 5 years later, that Natalee disappeared leads me to believe this was planned. He went looking for someone to kill.

It seems odd that the hotel didn't go to the room at some point on Sunday to clean it for the next arrival.

I agree, this looks like an "in your face" type of statement from Joran.

I wonder if he formally checked out of the hotel or just left. He knew that were he to check out they would clean the room immediately and find Stephany.

Maybe he put a "DO NOT DISTURB" sign on the door to the room even though he checked out. The maids would not go in there if they saw that sign. I think he tried to delay it so it wouldn't look like he did it. And certainly the maids would have walked in on the murder or heard it happeneing if he checked out and someone else came there and murdered her. They would have heard the screams from her being stabbed. He totally did this and should pay for it.
