I read that it was caused by trauma to her cervix done by a blunt object? Does this mean that he raped her with a blunt object? OMG. I can't imagine for the life of me why someone would want to befriend this guy even if they don't know his history. There is nothing friendly looking about him. He looks a bit retarded and creepy at the same time. I went to the Netherlands last year for summer and I couldn't shake the fact that this kid is from there.

Anyways, I am so sorry for Stephanie's pain. I suspect that he tried to get sex from her and she was just not interested and he lost it. I have a feeling that it was the same story with Natalee. I don't know if this is true but I read somewhere that Stephanie was a lesbian. She probably thought that he was a nice guy to hang out with (don't know why she would think that) and went to his room not realizing that her time was numbered. RIP to both girls who were brutally murdered by this in bred creep.

The damage was to her cervical spine (neck) not to her cervix!

I have a question...Why would J have a need to move HER car...when the hotel staff has seen them together..they are on camera..He brings 2 coffees back to the room..and she is discovered DEAD..in his room???? WHY move her car???

Hi, Justus4all. I would imagine that it was a spontaneous, half-formed decision. He obviously needed to leave the immediate area as quickly as possible and might have considered just using her car as a getaway car. (It would also focus the search for her elsewhere.) At some point, he realized that driving a victim's auto was not the most advantageous strategy.

So it would appear that she had left the hotel? Maybe buy himself a little time. I'm just guessing here - have no idea really. :)

I guess we'll have to be patient regarding sorting out the facts from the possibly false info being reported along with translations confusing the info even more.

How will we be able to follow this? I hope we'll have access to accurate information somehow.

Here's a link to the story on myfoxAL: http://www.myfoxal.com/global/story.asp?s=12591263

and the criminal complaint -- it was filed today?? (My edit: look at the date of the alleged extortion - May 10, 2010)
VANDERSLOOTCOMPLAINT.pdf

Is it just me or is the wording very strange to anyone else?

" Joran Van der Sloot, the longtime suspect in the disappearance of missing Mountain Brook teenager Natalee Holloway, has been accused of offering $250,000 in exchange for her whereabouts".

Why the heck would Joran OFFER 250k?

I understood initially what you were getting at--:-); However, I have worked in the justice system for over 30 years and killers in real life just don't think or act that way. The number one reason they get caught is because they DON'T PLAN what to do after the murder. He may very well be aware of every step he takes to avoid being apprehended but he's not going to spend one second setting up the scenario suggested in case he's apprehended, which would have ambiguous evidentiary value at best.

Maybe when he left to get the coffee she was still alive and bound? He returned with them and then realised that she was dead, no need for the second coffee now??

Thanks, Suzihawk. Oddly, MyFoxAl says that he was arrested for offering some one $250,000 for information about the whereabouts of Holloway's remains:

Joran Van der Sloot accused of extortion
BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Joran Van der Sloot, the longtime suspect in the disappearance of missing Mountain Brook teenager Natalee Holloway, has been accused of offering $250,000 in exchange for her whereabouts.

In a criminal complaint filed Thursday by the U.S. Attorney in Birmingham, Van der Sloot is accused of offering $250,000 to a person in Birmingham in exchange for information about the whereabouts of her remains in Aruba. Holloway disappeared

Wow! Can you link the complaint? As recently as May 10, 2010 seems VDS may have been wired 15,000 USD. Upon receipt of full 250,000 USD, would divulge the location of NH's remains.

Perhaps someone can explain this for me...It was reported she was found face down at the foot of the bed in a blouse, coat and swimsuit..(correct me if I am in error)..regarding the swimsuit..does the hotel have a pool??? does the casio have a pool?? Had they been swimming??? Why the swimsuit?

Also regarding the statement Joran moved her Vehicle 50 blocks away...Perhaps he was going to use it to take him far away...then..thought better of it...and just left it..

That IMO would explain WHY he moved it....thanks

Interesting... But why in the world would Joran offer money for information about the location of her remains?? That doesn't make much sense. I have to wonder if that wording is backwards??

It would make sense to me that he would be the one asking for money if he was as hard up as has been recently reported.

It just get curiouser and curiouser...

In my opinion it should have read ' Joran offered the whereabouts of NH's remains for $250,000.'..?

I think "swimsuit" is really "panties" and it somehow got confused in translation

If the complaint is authentic, IMO, the author of the article needs to seek a new profession.

It's most likely a translation error. most of the later reports I've seen say she was wearing a dress and panties.

What date was the Alabama extortion stuff going on.

Shocking by all means, but man the stuff is flying fast the last 2 days and I can't tell what is real or just reporters quick to jump on it.

I'm curious about when this extortion attempt occurred as well. My guess is that it was rather recent. If it happened in the past, why would they just now file charges? On the other hand, maybe whoever is filing charges it just trying to add to Joran's current criminal problems. I dunno...

You're right... the information is flying fast and furious. I suspect a lot of misinformtion is slipping through since everyone is tripping over themselves to be the first to report.

As in: "You pay me $250,000 and I'll tell where you can find her body".

Improperly translated, I presume.

Right, but whoever wrote the article...is an idiot

I'm local and the AL U.S. Atty is holding a presser now.

He is being charged with extortion. Requesting $250K to reveal the location of Natalee's body.

Details forthcoming....

eta: sorry for not being able to add more info this min. all of the websites are overloaded and local news pre-empted the US Atty. presser... I *thought* he said the extortion attempt was very recent. Not sure enough to give you guys an exact date and not even positive they revealed the exact date.

Stephany’s cousin, Rafael Vertiz, told NBC’s “Today” show Thursday morning, “She had seen a special about the crime that he committed, or allegedly committed, five years ago. And she was shocked by it.”

http://www.examiner.com/x-43367-Int...r-Sloot-killed-her-manhunt-continues-in-Chile

I'm still looking for the video replay, cannot find it yet. This was from this mornings Today Show.

The "she" mentioned in the article and the quote is one of Rafael's friends, not Stephany. Stephany did not see the show about Natalee. The author of the article did a poor job of reporting.

The link to the video is on the right side of this page.
