I posted this on the Pet Forum, thought I'd post it here too.
If crating your pet, it is also good to remove their collar. Years ago on a 4th of July, my sister and dh left their beagle in his wire crate while they went to watch fireworks. I can't remember what company the crate was made by, but it opened in front and also opened on top. Apparently my sister had no idea the dog would freak out like he did. He must have jumped so hard in a frantic attempt to escape the crate that he popped open the top enough for his collar to catch on one of the latches and he hung himself. My sister and dh said the picture of seeing him hanging there in the crate will be forever imprinted in their mind. I'm just sharing this to make others aware to please remove collars to prevent such a tragedy.
