My mother was in her teens when she had me.
There are downsides to having VERY young parents also.

Oh, Joly, I totally agree with that. I guess I'm projecting myself into this too much. I'm 50 - have 3 kids and work with kids all day - a child at 66? God forbid!!!!!! I was 35 when my last was born. I felt that was old in a way!
Hopefully all will be well and the child is surely loved. I guess families are never "ideal," even when they appear so. I just cannot relate to this personally, at all.

I had a baby four months ago (yes, I am a woman :crazy, and I'm pushing 40. My energy level with this child (she's my 3rd, my other two are middle and high school age) is very low. I don't know how a 70-year-old woman can keep up with a toddler. My mother visited to help me out last month, and I had to make sure she got a break every day to take a rest.

The good thing about having kids really young is that by the time you are 50 they've left home.
But, after they leave you miss them. Our lawyer's wife is going is going through depression and won't get out of bed or change her clothes because her last child just went to college.
So, while I bet you do sometimes feel stressed with 3 kids and a job, enjoy them because all too soon they are gone. When I dream, in my dreams my grown kids are children.

Geez!!!!That woman needs to get a life. She's not doing her kids any good by falling apart! Can't she volunteer someplace? There are a lot of kids who don't have parents who could use her!

What about the concept of a womans "right to choose". If a young woman can use technology to safely abort a child, then does that allow for an older woman to use the same technology and concept of "my body, my choice" to have a child?
I will probably be thinking about this the rest of the day.

Hey up, friends. you will find i've made a few posts in the pst about 'old' parents and here is the reason i'm aghast at the very idea: essentially my grandparents were my parents. they took me on as a brand new baby at 60 and 63 apiece and they honestly didn't have the energy to keep up with me as i was growing up.
they died by the time i was 23. sure, i was old enough to take care of myself by then and i had flown the coop when i was 19. but i can guarantee they didn't have the peaceful retirement they ought to have had with me around.
there are reasons they took me and those reasons were entirely selfish.
i am not saying i didn't love them, but i did resent being the butt of teasing by school friends for having such an old mum and dad. boo hoo me, you may say. i say walk a mile in someone else's shoes and it really was hard, you know.
i feel terribly for this child. life is hard enough in childhood without something so deliberately planned such as this freakdom.
yes, i'm against the likes of older celebrity dads too, for similar reasons.![]()
