Ohh..pedinurse bless your heart I also have PCOS you know where that name came from the initals from two or three doctors who discovered PCOS from chicago university years ago. Another hormone that woman should have checked when going through the change or who has pcos is their testostrone levels and if their levels are elevated they should take 200 mg a day of Aldactone that lowers the testostrone level and also had a sparing diertic in it that does not deplete one's potassuim. And throughout the years of research on the drug they have found the pts. who have CHF it keeps them from building up fluids around the heart and from having more CHF issues.

I can't speak for others, Paladin, but I wasn't offended by your post - I just responded to you cause you gave me a shout out. :) Hope you didn't think I was being preachy at you - I was just mounting the general soabox and being preachy at the great unknown everyman!!

I feel like I know you well enough to know you are not insincere in your beliefs about throwing our hands up in the air about health! I'm with you about that as well!

Well thank you. I admit I have a tendency to word things in such a way that it leaves much room for interpretation (or misinterpretation).

I just think that our society today is throwing at us completely mixed signals when it comes to our health. One of the one hand you have magazines and television ads bombarding us and our children with beautiful people with perfect bodies, but on the other hand you have places with all you can eat buffets, quadruple patty hamburgers, or oversized portions at restaurants to make it seem like we're getting more for our money.

My office is constantly passing along health advice to us about eating right, watching your weight, watching your cholesterol, but then the food vendors who come into our office have nothing to offer us except greasy pizza, chicken wings and subs. 5 days a week!

I should actually complain that they really aren't offering us much in the way of healthy food options. I bring my lunch every day now as a result, and I'm saving a ton of money to boot.

Just finished reading this thread and what an inspiration Windchime is, I have not judged anyone for the size they are, as there are many reasons why people are overweight and unless I know the facts I never make judgement.

Windchime I wish you all the best with your surgery, and am sending my prayers and best wishes :blowkiss: I too would like to keep in touch and know how you are going. And one more thing, YOU GO RAISE HELL ON YOUR CRUISE AND ENJOY.

This is an excellent point! But I am in a philosophical mood tonight and if I run with it, I will end up talking about all the mixed messages society sends us about every damned thing, so I will just reign myself in right here and say you're absolutely right!

It's a ridiculous world - we just have to find a way to live in it!

:blowkiss: Shazz thank you for you kind words. Ohh..I am so looking forward to this cruise I will have our laptop and digital camara and will be posting links to members who want to view some pictures while we are on our cruise we are going to The Grand Cayman Island and Cozumel.
Paladin I do understand some things that you are saying and I do understand where you are coming from and I agree. I have trouble at times with posting my post and trying to get it to come out right. I also agree with pedinurse when young children start putting on weight that is when the parents should step in and see that their child is eating healty and getting plenty of exersise. That is why I can NEVER fault my parents because they did everything the doctors told them to do with me. My mom said there were times she would go to her room and cry her heart out because I wouldn't hardly eat from being on diet pills and when she took me off of them she would measure out my food portins and eat diet foods where as the other kids at that time could eat the regular foods but she knew she was doing it for my health. I'd say shame on any parent who dosen't do anything in their power to help their child who is putting on weight.

A lot more risks for health problems would be something she and her doc would need to review. Is she on meds? This question confuses me. I don't assume someone who is not the weight I think they should be is on antidepressnats. I also know that people who are very small suffer depression. Depression effects those of all sizes and races.

i didn't mean she should be on antidepressants because she is overweight, or that depressed people are overweight, i was just saying it could be a side effect if she was on them. there are lots of other drugs too that make you gain weight. you never know. that was just speculation on my part. i know for a fact that lots of people can see a HUGE weight gain by taking an ssri.

the way doctors prescribe them so easily. i really think alot of weight gain people have experienced in the last 20 years has to do with taking drugs like zoloft, paxil, or effexor etc. not saying they don't need them. but they CAN definitely make you gain alot of weight.

NewMom you are very welcome:blowkiss: I do love and respect myself because I know how hard I have faught and worked to be a healthy weight, but I told myself I'm not going to live a unhappy life because I'm a full figured woman I am who I am and if people don't like it ohh..well they don't have to be my friend. I have a wonderful, caring, loving, understanding husband and I wouldn't trade him for the world.

:blowkiss: That's all that matters Wind! :blowkiss: I hope you guys have a wonderful time on your cruise!

I wish you all the luck in the world with your surgery. I hope it's a success! Please keep us updated!

On a side note - I know very little about the lapband surgery and how it works, but I know a woman that got pregnant within 3 months of her lapbad surgery. She had struggled with infertility for over 10 years and just recently gave birth to a very healthy baby boy! :)

Alot of people here are praising KSS for flaunting herself in her bathing suit. What is stopping you guys from doing the same?

Gravity has not been kind....neither has aging :blushing:

as someone who has struggled for many years with my weight, a bathing suit, let alone a bikini is not something i could do...to think she could do that AND know the cameras will be flashing, well, she is a much braver soul than i!

I won't re-quote the whole post, but what Chloekins said was awesome.

Here's how I see it.

Yesterday morning I got a rare sleep-in and had the covers over my head while hubby was getting ready for work. I dozed back off somewhere between CNN getting turned on and hearing the water running when he was shaving. You know what I got woken back up to? My hubby, already late for work, kissing the only part of me sticking out of the covers . . which happened to be my almost 40-year old-cellulite ridden-cottage cheese-looking thigh. And you know what? I walked around like the queen of the manor all day yesterday, too-tight jeans and all.

Today on my way home when I was starving, instead of the Bell or Mickey D's, I had a side salad for lunch. By showing me that love despite my physical self, he made me love myself enough to forego fries. Tomorrow I may have Steak-n-Shake. . . who knows. But when you have someone that loves you despite your outer shell, your insides respond better to everything, blood pressure be damned.

exactly. some say that overeating is just filling a hole inside that you can't seem to fill any other way. i think sometimes that hole is a sense of being loved, belonging, feeling appreciated. lots of people are so lonely. mickey D is their best buddy. i know this because I've been there.

WindChime...good luck with your procedure:blowkiss:

I struggled with my weight since I was 5. I never understood it because I always ate less than most people and I was very active. I can honestly say that my weight never bothered me, but what was hurtful were Doctors telling me I needed to eat less and society assuming I was lazy. I went on a few diets over the years, but I always regained the weight. Last year I was diagnosed with PCOS. Around that same time I was also looking into the LapBand procedure, but my insurance company wanted a 12 month medically supervised diet before they would approve it. To make a long story short...my husband had an emergency procedure, his surgeon was also a bariatric surgeon who not only performed the procedures but also wrote a few books that promoted a whole foods diet. It was the ideal diet for PCOS and.....I have lost about 60 pounds since May! I have been slacking since Thanksgiving, but I haven't gained any weight. The Doctor's diet is very strict and my biggest challenge is following the food pyramid..that is a major part of why his diet works...but from the PCOS aspect...I'm still avoiding refined carbs and sugars, so I haven't regained any weight and I no longer need to have surgery.

There are still many Doctors who deny or don't know about PCOS. It is a major cause of weight gain in this country. Any women who struggles with weight and is apple shaped should be tested, or if you primarily store abdominal fat and you have other symptoms such as infertility, acne, excess hair growth, menstrual problems, etc.
