Pit Bull and Other Dog Attacks.

Anyone who owns a pit should expect it to turn. This child was not a stranger to the dog. There are just too many cases of this. The girl was not just bitten, but attacked as in most cases involving this breed.
Sadie Mae , I always look for your opinion regarding dogs as I believe you are really well informed ... you are right .I would never own a pitbull as they are unpredictable. No child should be left alone with one and a lot attack their owners. It is in the breeding but I often wonder about the type of people who buy them.

No child should be left alone with any kind of dog, it is just common sense. My mom's lab is the biggest baby but freaks out around fireworks. My son had a sparkler the other night and the lab was freaking out to the point he was trying to bite at the sparklers, we had to put him inside. He could have bitten my son trying to get at the sparklers. All I am says is children should always be supervised around dogs.

I agree with you Imthemom no dog should be left alone with a child, but in your story the lab was going for the sparkler, not the child....big lab lover here:D

This kills me and my point of posting is 2 things. 1 This is the reason there should be tougher laws on ownership. 2 This is how a pit bull plays. I had a girl and she would always LOOK like she was hurting the baby, but never once. Like my dogs now, when they play you would think they are killing each other. The sounds they make. This is sad, I warn you! And after rereading MAYBE he was agressive, but still never deserved this.

Suffolk County police say Derick Phanord, 22, confessed to chaining his pit bull to a tree, dousing him with gasoline and setting him on fire after he attacked a puppy in Phanord's home.

The Suffolk County SPCA took in the pit bull and named him Maximus after finding him tied to the tree the night of July 12. Sixty percent of his body was covered in second-and third-degree burns and he had sustained wounds in his mouth, which resulted in the loss of his canine and incisor teeth.
Less than a week later, Maximus died from his injuries, prompting members of the community to fund a $20,000 reward for information leading to the animal's attacker.

The tipping point came on July 12, when Maximus clamped his mouth over the puppy's head and would not let go. According to Varrone, Phanord attempted to open the pit bull's jaw by dousing him with bleach and gasoline.
By the time Maximus finally released the puppy, Phanord was so "incensed" that he decided to get rid of the dog, at the urging of his mother and sister, Varrone said.
He then allegedly took the 2-year-old dog to a wooded area, tied him to a tree, doused him in more gasoline and set him on fire.
Dear sweet Indy Gal,:blowkiss:
Thank-you for the link. Here is one with the news video story and photos of this poor dog. Very heartbreaking.

Brentwood Man Arrested For Setting Dog On Fire

All of my Love and Respect to you,

Thank you dark shadow. The poor thing died. It also said he was there for 2 days. The vets said he was very sweet and licked and waged his tail to the end. I doubt this dog attacked the other dog. I will watch this case. For all you PB lovers please make a donation to this vets office in honor of this poor boy!
Donations are still being collected to defray the costs of Maximus' treatment. For information, contact the Veterinary Medical Center at 631-587-0800 or Save-A-Pet at 631-473-6333.

ETA I have made a thread on this here!

It seems to me there are two types who buy pitbulls - those who are "rescuing" and in denial about the evidence that they are unpredictable and those who buy them because of their tough, aggressive persona. JMO.

third kind. Those that are responsible dog owners, do not underestimate the breed and appreciate the intelligence and loyalty of the breed. I am not afraid of pit bulls. I know that many people are and I would repsect that and take great care if I still had one.

One that note I have to say that all of you were right. Sadly my Pit turned the other day. My friend brought over her new puppy to show my son and my Pit attacked and ripped his throat open. He also caused my Rott to join in due to the "pack" mentality. It really was total mayhem and no one at the house could do a thing about it.

It took me hours to vacuum up all the stuffing.

Note to self, never, NEVER bring another stuffed animal into the house and let the dogs see it. It's a death sentence.

 LOL! Just jokes folks!

first I was:confused: then I was:eek: now Ive just got off the floor from LMAO:) :) :)

Sorry! LOL, just trying to lighten the mood. My babies absolutely LOVE stuffed animals. They last a total of 3 minutes with my 2, even less if they squeak. Have you ever seen the vacuum commercial for Dyson? It shows other vacuums making different noises and one of them sounds like a squeaky toy? My dogs will leap up out of a dead sleep and search for a good half hour for that toy when the commercial comes on, it's quite funny to turn the sound up really loud and watch them. Hubby and I are easily amused by our dogs, can you tell?

If it squeaks, Apache HAS to have it!! Other toys never lasted long with them....only one kind they STILL have. It's called a Cuz...and it's the only toy that's Dane proof.

Is that like a Kong? Both of mine have torn up a supposedly indestructuble Kong. They're fine with the cone shaped one, even though the ends are chewed but any others are mince meat.

We're also amused by giving them a spoonful of peanut butter, peanut butter side up. Especially the Rottie, the expressions that go across his face are pricesless.

No it's a solid rubber ball with feet and a squeaker. They tore the feet off all theirs through. They've had them 6 months so far. They come in different sizes. There's a Good Cuz (high pitched squeak) and the Bad Cuz (low honking squeak). They're at Petsmart for about $12.00 each for the largest one. The only stuffed toy that hasn't been ripped apart is Apache's fuzzy monkey...he treats that like a baby.
Gosh...you really did scare me until I got to the end!! LOL!!

I'll have to look for that. My Rottie tries to take care of his "animals" but the Pit always steals them and de-squeaks them.
