'Placid' Wobbegong shark bites teen surfer 3 times

A normally placid Australian Wobbegong shark (carpet shark), pounced on 13-year-old surfer Kirra-belle Ollson this morning, bit her foot three times, and tried to pull her under. Not having an idea what to do, she screamed and paddled for shore at Avoca Beach, NSW, and made it.

Kirra posted pics of her injuries on her Instagram account while waiting for surgery this afternoon - some the newspaper says are too graphic to print - and also told on her Facebook how she called her dad and told him she was fine. His reply was: 'Well, my heart's racing!'

She's a spirited young thing - she thought it 'was a mate' trying to pull her down, and even says it wasn't really painful. Thinks her wetsuit prevented the teeth from going to the bone. Experts think the shark mistook her foot for a fish, which I thought as soon as I saw the photo in my post above. Honest.
