This Prime series is heartbreaking. The group that was huddled outside, all got campus alerts -- investigating a homicide -- and then -- 4 homicides.

It's how they were notified.

Heart. Stop.

that sad huddle

JMO
I just finished watching episode 1, and this was the one piece of information that absolutely floored me. Although completely unintentional, how absolutely devastating it must have been for all the friends, huddled together outside the home, to learn that there were four murdered friends inside, by Vandal Alert, and not by any of the many officers on scene, when they were still reeling with the thought that Xana and Ethan had likely been killed.

"One Night in Idaho" episode 4 notes:

Hunter J woke up in the middle of the night on the night of the murders, and locked the door. It was the first time he had done that .Emily thinks Dylan thought she just imagined what she saw and heard. We then see a bunch of crazy TikTokers casting aspersions on Dylan and Bethany. Psychologist talks about how they wouldn't have been thinking logically or rationally and that most people wouldn't understand it."If she had known what was going on, it would have been too late anyways." -Emily.

The doc explores the "incel" theory. A fellow DeSales student talks about their study of Elliot Rodger, an incel who went on a killing spree before committing suicide. Another student also talks about Kohberger being unbothered when Rodger was discussed (other students were bothered). Even now, Emily, Hunter, and David (frat bro) have people accusing them. "How is this going to affect my ability to get a job?"

The Chapin's are just a remarkable family. They pulled together and decided that they weren't going to let this destroy them. A big part of that is just staying away from all the outside noise surrounding this case. They struggled to figure out what to do with Ethan's remains. "Where do you put your kid?" They have decided to keep him in the basement until one of the parents passes.

Maddie's mother talks about how a year ago she wouldn't have been able to sit for this interview. She decided she was going to be strong for Maddie, and live like Maddie would have wanted her to live.Doc closes with friends remembering the victims and the times they shared.

Hunter and Emily talk about how they were forced to grow up. "I had a vision of what I wanted my life to look like, and I've given up some of my goals." - Emily.

At the filming of this documentary 1122 King Road was still standing. Hunter had to see that house every morning, "I just want it to go away so I don't have to look at it anymore.

"Shows the house being demolished.

He's the ultimate loser, albeit a very destructive one. Dumb and dim

If one of the parents wants to get to him, when they're writing their Victim Impact Statement, maybe they could include that.

That BK - Eliot Rodger comparison had a paragraph on using ' Intellectualism as a mask'
A WS-er this week, said he has a very 'average IQ' - yet we know BK was focused on his own genius. ( Whether that's patronising students & colleagues at Univ or signing-up for a Quora account to answer queries on the internet on the subject of IQ and test scores. )

Caveat - ofc, fixation & frenzy are other reasons plus perhaps pre-planning to change his car reg are other probable reasons but I think the first point would get to him and a parent could pull the rug on him on July 23)

What else would Ws-ers drop into such a V I statement. I think, adding something on his sexual inadequacy would also hit hard
He will bath in the expressed agony of loss of victim impact statements with his "dupers delight" maybe with a slimy smirk, his morbid curiosity of seeing people in agony he doesn’t feel, could probably eat a sandwich while family member choke through their despairing statements.
Any insult slung will bounce.
He has incontrovertible affected many, so here in lies his satisfaction, he has played God, killed 4, got caught but still he is so satisfied.. thumbs up, did it, that smug, arrogant emptiness.

He is the most frightening kind, so lucky are we all that he left his DNA on that sheath.
Lock em up , throw away key.

At the end of the documentary, they mentioned a charity, for the victims.

On the first episode of Amazon's new mini-series. MM's mother seems like such a kind, sweet, gentle soul.

I especially feel for Ethan's brother. He just seems like he's still in total disbelief that his brother is gone.

A hearing has been set for July 17th at 10:30 re: the media's motion to vacate the non-dissemination order.

This seems rather unnecessary, given the fact that BK's sentencing hearing is on July 23rd and the judge is likely to lift the non-dissemination order at that time, anyway. I'm not sure what difference a week is going to make in the grand scheme.

Judge Hippler should tell the media he's going to take the matter under advisement.
Then issue his ruling a week after sentencing.

Most murderers aren't smart and that's how they get caught. Look at all the ones on camera buying their murder supplies at Walmart. Watch the show See No Evil, and then there's recently convicted mushroom poisoner Erin Patterson in Australia, caught dumping evidence on CCTV footage.
On the last episode of See No Evil, the idiot went through a Burger King drive-through with his dead victim in the car slumped next to him! It was all caught on surveillance camera. Guess he couldn't wait to dump her to eat. Murder makes you hungry.

There’s an interesting post on their family Facebook. I believe his wife, Kristi, wrote it. She said if BK got the death penalty he would be in a cell 23 hours a day (more of less) which would be a correct punishment. She acknowledged having to go to various hearings.

I do think & I think lots of folks thought there would be a trial. I can see where any of the parents would feel we are almost at the trial after years of waiting & there’s a huge reverse course. In another post, someone stated sometimes it’s how you communicate a change in course that helps the parent accept LWOP. SG may need some help, but is not there yet. I feel in time SG may seek this help as he has other children & grandchildren he’ll want to spend time with.
I cannot imagine his pain. I truly believe this is his last time he can fight for his daughter. She fought so hard, I believe he feels the fight should not be over this easy for the murderer. I believe in the death penalty, as I have first hand how murder shook my friends family. He now gets to have interviews, profilers will be lighting up his world. Books are coming out, it's all about him now. To him it's all that matters. He will go down as a notorious psychopath. That I don't think bothers him, it's the attention he will get. I don't believe he's sorry. I don't believe he accepted responsibility to protect his family. From what I heard, his sister is going to out him, and make money as well. Please, we can't judge any families. He will have the protection they couldn't have. We will be paying for the rest of his life, the lives the kids didn't have a chance to live. Oh how important he will feel when he's the one being studied. I would rather see him have prison justice, of course OMHO

Notes on "One Night in Idaho" episode one:Hunter J knew Ethan and Xana were dead, but intentionally used the word "unconscious" to shield everyone from the reality of the situation. The house was sealed off immediately, and even paramedics were kept away.Everyone was interviewed individually at the police station that day.The friends, roommates, and Ethan's family stayed at a hotel that night.
I haven't watched the episode yet, just a preview, but this portion cleared up something that has been confusing since the Order on the State's MIL RE: Text Messages and 911 Calls referred to DM's grand jury testimony.

In her testimony DM said:

At approximately 11:50 a.m., D.M. called her friend E.A. and asked her to come over and check the house because she was scared. E.A. and her boyfriend, H.J. came over. They met D.M. and B-F. at the bottom floor of the house. Together D.M., B.F. and H.J. started to walk up the stairs to the second floor. When they reached the second floor, H.J. went to the kitchen to grab kitchen knife. When he came back out, D.M. "saw Xana again for split second. And just started bawling because thought she had just like don't even know. thought maybe she was still just drunk and all asleep on the floor." B.F. also saw Xana lying on the floor.

H.J. told D.M. and B.F. to "get out." E.A., who had started up the stairs, also turned around after H.J. instructed her not to come any further. They both went outside. Shortly afterwards, H.J. exited the house and told them to call 911. He was pale white and mentioned something about someone being unconscious.

BF then called 911 and we heard the audio of that call and it seemed like some of that above actually happened while on the phone with 911, but DM testified it happened before the call. So it seems that all of the above happened, HJ told them to get out and call 911 and tell them someone was unconscious, even though he knew otherwise (and explaining the big mystery of why it was called in as an unconscious person). And then when the 911 operator told the girls to go up and look they started back up the stairs and HJ yelled at them again to get out.

I wonder if Hunter started to go up the stairs to check on Maddie and Kaylee at some point while he was in the house and saw something on the stairwell that stopped him from going further. However, I suspect standing at the bottom of the stairs and yelling their names and getting no response may have been enough for him, given what he had seen of Xana and Ethan's state. :(

I’m not against the death penalty, so it won’t bother me ethically (morally) if BK received it. I’ve never thought SC doesn’t understand about the whole DP process, while at the same time, I can respect the KM & EC’s family’s feelings on having to be in the same room as BK.

IMO, the reality is, it’s never over whether it’s LWOP, DP or losing a child.

The media is trying to get the gag order dropped prior to sentencing. They don't want to wait.

They really are vultures sometimes! We all want to know, but its only another week or so, why can't they just wait? Let the poor parents see him sentenced and start to find their new normal before they have to see every tortuous detail of what happened to their children splashed all over the place everywhere they turn :(

Looking for a Vid Clip

A day or two after plea agreement was announced, I saw a vid w Mr. G. & fam atty Shanon Gray appearing w Ashleigh Banfield.
Mr. G. said he wanted to apologize to Kaylee.

It was 5-7 min long, may have been a teaser type clip for a 40-60 min NN show.

Can anyone locate it and give us a link please?

Thought the Amazon Prime show was really well done.

The Amazon documentary was very good. I highly recommend it. We know so much more about them and their friends and family. The first episode was riveting as well as heartbreaking. It all was.

The internet traumatized so many of thise friends and roommates beyond. They had just lost best friends and/or a girlfriend, and then to have these insane people making a cottage industry of videos and posts all over social media, blaming them and accusing them of being the killers. The strength of those kids, and I cannot even imagine being their parents to get them through that.

Such wonderful people taken in such cruelty. The parents are amazing. The Chapin family and Maddies's mom and stepdad. Maddie was an only child, that is soul crushing the senseless loss. The friends and family finding out what happened. By the way, they wanted that house gone. It was an awful reminder for them.

And in watching that whole circle of friends and family discuss how much joy those four brought to their lives, I realized-is there anyone who felt that way about BK? Did he ever bring any joy to his family? Did he even have a friend? Seems as though his only joy was spending his adulthood trying to become the perfect predator.

I love this. RE: The Chapins. I feel this so much.

"Where do you put your kid?" They have decided to keep him in the basement until one of the parents passes.

Side note, not that it is in any way similar to the grief of the Chapins for losing their son. But I have had a box of ashes for our last dog on the desk. I can't seem to do anything with them, because then it would be "real". Just leaving them there, not doing anything "final" means that they are still here. If that makes any sense.

I know there are places that make jewelry with ashes, and stuff. But just leaving them on the shelf, seems to make it not real. Doing anything with them is just too final and heartbreaking.

I think this documentary is good. I think it helps contextualise the thought processes of the friends and housemates that morning.

That’s not how Hunter’s girlfriend Emily describes it in the Amazon documentary. DM called and asked if Hunter would come check out the house because something weird had happened the night before. She thought maybe she’d imagined it because BF hadn’t heard anything, but they were too scared to check it out because no one was responding to their calls/texts.

Emily said the roommates were already waiting for them outside when she and Hunter got there. Hunter went upstairs first, and Emily had just stepped inside the front door when he came rushing back down and said they needed to call 911 about an unconscious person. Emily said Hunter saw the wounds on Ethan and Xana and immediately knew they were dead, but he was trying to shield the girls from the horror of the situation.

Although, he must have relayed that info to first responders when they arrived though because the EMTs never went inside and the cops put up crime scene tape. The cops weren’t telling them anything about what they’d found inside the house, and then they got the Vandal Alert about a homicide investigation on King Road and realized Xana and Ethan had been murdered.

I think it was only then that they really started to wonder about Maddie and Kaylee whereabouts. They don’t say that in the documentary; it’s just my impression. I don’t think anyone even dared to consider that all 4 of them might be dead until they received the second Vandal Alert calling it a quadruple homicide investigation.

The girls were understandably very upset with the police officers on scene for not telling them anything while they’d been sitting outside the house for hours.
