I wonder if we'll hear more about this?

Curtains and blinds. And use them.
As someone whose cousin was in a fire in one of those houses in which other people died, never ever be in a room that requires a key to exit. One boy didn't make it out for that reason.

"IF I MUST"

Lololol

He was super popular with his co-workers before the semester even started!
I'm usually very careful not to write anything about anyone in a professional setting, y'know, in case someone requests the information and reads it.... but in this case I'm glad the professors did text each other lol!

Was there any additional info released about bloody footprints? I would think they would be all over

I have always thought that Kaylee heard something and came from her room to Maddie's room. One possible scenario in my mind was BK was in Maddie's room, thought it to be a quick kill, Murphy started barking, Kaylee WAS the one who going across the 3rd floor landing said "Someone's here", Murphy was told to stay, so he stayed (if he was well trained yet), Kaylee went to defend her friend and was beaten and stabbed because she messed up easy (where the rage came from and that she would have fought very hard). At that point Xana heard what was going on and maybe went up the stairs, saw what was happening and ran down the stairs. That fills out most of what DM heard.

The words "Found in the same bed" are not that same as "started in the same bed", so plenty of room for interpretation.
The only problem with that scenario is that Kaylee was found on the bed between Maddie and the wall, trapped there, according to her parents.

Upon the officers’ arrival at the scene, Kaylee’s door was unopened and Murphy was on Kaylee’s bed. The door was closed to preserve the scene, then Murphy hid under Kaylee’s desk and had to be coaxed out later.

What’s the chances he gets a transfer to the Pennsylvania prison system? Can he do that?
God I hope not!!! Why would it be up to him?

We are slowly trying to process what we have been reading. Please understand we are all reading them at the same time as everyone else. Do you think this was a fair way to find out the absolute brutality Kaylee had endured. This was part of what we had been fighting for , for years! Tell us what happened to Kaylee, we deserve to know before the rest of the world.
I don't want to seem morbid, but didn't a family member have to identify the bodies ? Were they not shown the bodies?

Wow, I cannot imagine the force required to break the bones in a person’s face and jaw and teeth- it could not be bare fists or he would have broken his hand.
Someone is going to have to explain why this was necessary- it is like rampage, feeding freenzy, untethered explosive madness… how does someone with that much pent up anger remain stoic like he does?
Disturbing isn’t even close to the right word

IMO
I just watched a case like that on the show See No Evil. In that case, the answer was that he was on Steroids- "Roid Rage" and drinking as well.

What is a blackjack?
It's also called a sap. It's a clubbing weapon. Short. The most primitive improvised version is something heavy in a sock.

MOO

It think it's possible to defend against "ill intent" and violence, starting with believing that there are people who want to do others harm. Depraved individuals like The Loser are far and away in the minority of the population, but he's the guy that makes walking in groups and locking doors and having window coverings that provide privacy necessary.

From what we've read, Kaylee and Dylan felt uneasy. What if they had taken that as seriously as they could? Got and used locks. Covered windows. Had and used an alarm. Called the police about the guy in the shadows. Kept social media private. This is not to victim blame. I teach college kids and believe me, they all think they are Superman level bullet proof. And when living in groups they feel safety in numbers.

But we've made big dents in things like drunk driving (see Kaylee and Maddie leaving the cars at the house and calling a sober driver). We've taught kids not to walk alone but in groups late at night, that there is some safety in numbers. Now we have to convince them not to record their lives for the whole world, to keep their circle small. We have to convince them that privacy and security are as important as the designated driver. I used to have baseball season tickets and often went to night games by myself. I never hesitated to ask a group walking together to watch as I got into my car.

I wrote this yesterday but it bears repeating. Dylan and Bethany have taken massive criticism for locking themselves in a room together and not calling 9-1-1. They didn't know what was going on and they weren't 100% sober. They felt fear and acted on it. The Loser returned to the murder scene the next morning. What if he had come into that house to try to retrieve the sheath? They were smart to call others to make sure there wasn't a monster in the house.

Well said!
The problem with experiencing crime, or betrayal, any kind of behavior that conveys a sense of a person’s life being unworthy of consideration, is that- the experience changes you.
Survivors fight a constant battle to convince ourselves that being naturally open and trusting is ok. We hold in a delicate balance two contradictory sets of priorities.
1- Be diligent, eyes wide open, prepared, deliberate, aware, question intent, check the locks again
2- Be kind, open, trusting, warm, affectionate, caring, laugh, force a smile until you feel it
And then there is this the safety of loved ones. Not only do you have no control of the perp, but you can’t control loved ones. And you don’t want to burden them with your baggage.

In the end, either you are moving forward, or you are stuck.
Being stuck means fear wins, perps win, time passes and you have exhausted all of your emotional energy and you can no longer feel, nothing has meaning, you aren’t living, yet you are still alive.
And that process isn’t linear
Moving forward means you are able to walk into the fear and find peace, healing, vulnerability, openness, and can trust yourself again
As I watched DMs victim impact statement, I, like so many others, was taken back to times when fear ruled. You can’t think, you second guess every decision, you can’t organize thoughts well, you can’t remember well, you can’t plan well, your emotions are scattered or absent, or feel like they are cross wired, or every fuse has been cut short, and you can no longer trust your own mind.

DM seems to be in that place- and I hope at some point she will let the world she is ok. The rest of us would benefit from knowing she is healing.
Once you find your way back you see that your experience is part of shared humanity and trying to avoid suffering isn’t possible. It isn’t a why or if- it is a when.
Still, it is wrong for the takers/predators to misjudge- and believe that love, hope and dreams and kindness are weak. Actually these things cannot be believed and shown outwardly without fierce bravery, wisdom and freedom to be vulnerable.
It is the takers/predators that are controlled and ruled by fear- too afraid to open up and be their true vulnerable imperfect selves, so they have to destroy the givers/prey they cannot understand.

I also believe it's this. It's not personal, he was just overwhelmed with adrenaline and trying to dispatch Kaylee as quickly as possible out of fear of not being caught. He probably felt a huge sense of panic once he was caught by Kaylee and Xana and responded with an erratic overkill. He's not an experienced killer, I would imagine past Maddie he was basically running on pure instict. You only need to see him speeding down the road to see how chaotic his mind was at that point.
if only we could see the evidence - purely cleanly released - all we have is motion to suppress followed by suppression orders released and basically the pd's record of action without the complete factual story. I want the actual things, i want the amazon search records, i want the jail phonecalls, i want the dna reports the geniology reports, i want the phone data.

And to add to this. There is a charge for every e-mail you send and recieve. Just like there is a charge for every phone call you make. And things aren't cheap in prison. For instance a dollar ramen noodle will cost double or triple in the prison canteen. And you make maybe a $1.25 a day for working as a janitor cleaning toilets. And you usually aren't allowed to start working for months. Don't know about Idaho but the state I'm in if you have money in your Inmate account it can be taken to go toward any restitution that has been court ordered. And from what I heard JH put fourth today as far as money being owed to the families someone is going to have to come out of pocket before BK is going to be able to buy a honey bun.

Not necessarily. If his parents put money on his account, the State cannot garnish the funds, as they are considered "gift" and technically not "BK's" money per se. This is something I have been interested in, because that is huge leverage. People in prison depend on outside sources of income to pave the way to the "luxury" prison life. It is a tough go, to rely only on the limited funds earned in prison.

I have speculated that BK's family may have been instrumental in BK taking a plea. The fact that his Mother and sister came to the sentencing hearing seemed to indicate they were there for BK.

Speaking of steroids, I always wondered whether the murderer used steroids during the period he transformed his body. His friends said his personality changed, that he became mean-spirited.

Of course, it’s possible that his always-present sense of superiority and cruelty simply revealed itself when he finally felt in command of himself. Or perhaps heroin played a role, or just puberty.

Do the impact statements have any impact on BK? He seems like a stone. Does he have any inkling of what he did?

  • #596
It's the butt end of the Ka=bar, most likely.
i disagree, because if he was using that then he would have had to have used the blade as the handle - at least for some of it to be really effective - which means. 1. he would have had to have protected himself from injury from the blade...and if that was the sheath...2. then the sheath would have had much evidence of blood from that particular part of the attack - which was not reported at all - and would have of course led le to conclude that it was on during part of the attack - and by testing whose blood, they could conclude who was being attacked using the knife handle as a weapon and the sheaf as protector of assailant. Unless he was wearing chainmail gloves i cannot imagine how he could have assured his hands were protected from the blade.

I suspect that his mother still cares about BK but I do not think BK has any normal emotions IMO.

I wasn’t sure where Murphy had been located when found, but I thought he had been locked in a room. It seems he was taken in by animal control and found in a pound across town at one point until KGs boyfriend got him out. Is that right?

If Murphy was outside and the front door was open soon after the murders- he may have been present during the attacks, and walked through blood. Was he in KG’s room and BK let him out?
Murphy is a Labradoodle, I think, smart but not at all aggressive.
I assume dogs can tell if a person is deceased- or at least that something is wrong.
And feel fear, and a need to alert others that something is wrong.

IMO
Dogs absolutely feel fear and many other human emotions. Cadaver dogs definitely can tell if a person is deceased. I've experienced more than one dog in my life lick my face to wake me up to see if I'm alive.

I was thinking it might have been from his Dad, so strange that it was a black heart. Maybe the killer colored it in...............
Well, Kohlberger actually DOES have a black heart, so it's fitting...
