GUILTY PLEA DEAL ACCEPTED - 4 Univ of Idaho Students Murdered, Bryan Kohberger Arrested, Moscow, Nov 2022 #114

  • #2,381

  • The food delivery Xana Kernodle ordered from DoorDash on the night she was murdered is among a new batch of crime scene photos released by Idaho State Police.
  • Investigators believe that Kernodle heard Kohberger upstairs while eating her food, and encountered him in the bedroom of roommate Madison Mogen.
  • Kernodle is thought to have then fled, at which point Kohberger followed her downstairs, forgetting to retrieve his knife sheath.
So...

It is thought that
while eating her food, Xana heard a commotion on the third floor.

She went upstairs to see what was happening and came upon BK in her roommate's bedroom. 😵‍💫

She fled,
and BK followed her
and caught up with her as she reached the doorway of her bedroom.

:(

How does this timing work? When Xana took the delivery food from the front door to the kitchen, BK was already in the house?

From the 'People' link above:

"Records show that Kernodle's delivery was placed outside the front door of the home at 3:59 a.m. by a DoorDash driver,
while surveillance footage shows that Kohberger parked his car in a small lot overlooking the home at 4:06 a.m."

So the food was sitting outside for awhile? The food was clearly half-eaten in the kitchen, so he passed through the kitchen to go upstairs before she got there?

I know this is likely clear to everyone else, but I thought she got the food and brought it to her room and THEN Brian entered the house. But now I see he was already in the house when she fetched the delivery at the door?

I understand it that she was eating her food that she had retrieved a few minutes earlier when she heard BK. moo

I’ve followed this case since the beginning, and have read a significant amount of these threads, but have only posted a few times here.

Let me preface this by saying my heart breaks for these four kids and their families. I’m so happy that this piece of garbage is behind bars and will never again taste freedom.

It seems likely that he thought he was smarter than everyone, particularly law enforcement. However, he thankfully had a number of miscalculations and missteps made before, during and after the murders. Poignantly, the heroic fights that (potentially) two of his victims put up was the primary reason for this case not going cold as it likely resulted in him leaving behind his DNA on the knife sheath.

It appears that those close to the case sound confident that even without the knife sheath DNA, the numerous video captures of him driving around the area immediately before and after the murders was going to be sufficient to eventually cook his goose.

That’s where my hypothetical goes to…eliminating or greatly reducing his car “footprint” during those early morning hours. What if he had decided to drive into the Arboretum from the southern entrance (Sand Rd) and then proceeded north until he was roughly parallel to King Rd.? It appears that he could’ve gone on foot from there and used a few smaller wooded sections in the residential areas to stay largely undetected. It seems like it’s less than 1/4 mile distance. Even if detected by Ring cameras, he’s dressed in all black from head to toe and wouldn’t be easily identified. I have no idea if there was security/video surveillance in the Arboretum that would’ve picked up his car or if there were cameras on the route leading there along Sand Rd or roads feeding into Sand Rd. I did want to get thoughts on whether this ultimately would’ve led to a more difficult time in identifying the perpetrator (let’s assume that the knife sheath wasn’t left behind in reality or under this scenario).

Thankfully, he left enough clues between his behavior (both in the academic setting and his private life), his miscalculations about being tracked via his phone pings as well as his online purchases, etc. to help make a strong case against him.

I do wonder though if this guy wasn’t such an obvious ticking time bomb weirdo and was more careful about not leaving digital footprints, would the scenario I suggested about setting up from the Arboretum been a significant blow to LE in tracking him down?

All of the above - MOO.

Thanks.
Well, I'm not sure I want to give any tips or ideas for any other BK's lurking out there, haha.

RBBM

I'm sure they will do their best to block certain sites. Hopefully, they're successful most of the time.

JMVHO.
The problem is , imo, that inmates have ways of obtaining cell phones and sneaking them into their cells. Gusards have been busted for selling cell phones to prisoners/

So if wifi exists in the prison, and an inmate obtains a hidden cell phone, then there are no limitations on that phone. And a serial killer would be able to access social media sits and befriend people, and message them. 😳

I wonder when/if any high-level psychologists might interview him. I know a couple have said they'd be interested just for furthering their study of minds like his. I really hope they wouldn't write a book about him, but it might be used for future profiling. The downside is that it could make him feel like he's smarter, so maybe it's best to just let him stew for a while first.

So is this the right order:

  • Door Dash driver walks down street to find the address. Drops off food. Leaves.
  • BK parks behind house.
  • BK enters house.
  • XK picks up food at front door.
  • XK brings food to kitchen.
  • XK goes upstairs and encounters BK.

Again, I realize everyone likely has this figured out, but the timing still isn't straight in my mind. Thanks for your patience and for correcting me if I'm wrong about the timing.

I tend to think this, but IMO, the timeline is so tight, I don’t think we will ever know. Also, in the video provided recently, it’s so hard for me to fathom Kaylee and Maddie going to sleep and not knowing where Murphy was and assuming he came in with Ethan and Xana. But, we will never know.

Yes, but steps 1 and 3 may have happened simultaneously or vice versa. This is as I understand it, not set in stone. moo

I'm also not clear if Xana went all the way up the stairs or just approached the stairs or went up a couple, etc. moo.

Reflecting on the bodycam footage, and the sad game of Who's on First -- poor DM who is trying to keep it together, talks about her roommate KG and the officer, who is aware that there are two victims in each of two rooms muddy have it stuck in his head that DM means "roommate roommate" as in sharing a room with. In a house where there were five roommates, none of whom shared a room (but happening to be sharing a room that night, one with an invited guest).

It struck me because in any other circumstance it would simply be a matter of misunderstanding. So mundane. Such an honest mistake. But with such a horrendous backdrop.

Knowing none of her friends are responding and the First Responders are walking away...

And Murphy, being walked away.

Painfully surreal. No one was saying it but the nothing allaying fear. A reality that got worse and worse and worse.

I'm sick on the photos and self videos at 2 am. Everything college is supposed to be. And even with the underage drinking, they got rides or walked home, traveled in pairs, put no one else in harm's way. Camped out on KG's bed. It should have been the start of their lives.

Not the end.

They are dead not because the felon had any genius, any skill, any anything. He just brought a extra-lethal weapon and ambushed his victims.

Because he wanted to. No other reason.

I don't knew that it's even possible to protect oneself from that kind of grave indifference. He doesn't have to be diagnosed with ASPD to see that he behaves counter-culture. He's just indecent, in every way.

Is there anyone he hasn't been rude to? Classmates, waitresses, students, colleagues professors, Mother, Father... police officers. How many different people did he artlessly railroad with his direct monologues? Forced audiences. Wasting his professor's time. Wasting his parents' time. Wasting the police officer's time. She has better things to do than listen to him run his dissertation on foreign crosswalks. It wasn't actually my fault. I was following the car in front of me. The one who had gone to compete the turn legally? Hardly a defense. But how was he to know? Pennslyvania doesn't have crosswalk paint.

That traffic stop should have started with a sorry, ended with a thank you and been done in under two minutes. She's not your personal Google search bar, Bry. Look it all up on your own time.

We shouldn't be surprised that he doesn't value other people's time.

He doesn't value other people.

It's really too bad he's not in gen pop where he'd be forced to live elbows touching with an entire population he thinks he's better than. Sentenced to peopling all day.

That would be a sentence with some teeth in it.

Now that we've been given a clearer understanding of his life at WSU and the traffic jam of complaints against him, I can just sit see him at that TA/student/grading Q & A.

It's a shame no one filmed it.

The mere suggestion of criticism, can you imagine? Unfair grading practices, a room of unhappy students, but he also displayed his ridiculous rigidness for his professor to see. Think I'm unreasonable? Let me show you how utterly unreasonable I am.

What I wouldn't give to be able to watch that.

It's just so eerie to me that Xana fetched the food from the door after he was in the house. They must have missed each other just by a matter of moments when he first went upstairs.

Gray Hughes has made some videos using the cctv evidence, he has even created a detailed spreadsheet of the likely timeline, so I recommend looking them up on YouTube.

I believe it could have happened in this order:-
- Door dash driver delivers food at 3.39am, and leaves King Road at 4.01am
- Xana receives notification of delivery, goes to first floor and collects food, before taking up to her bedroom or main room (time unknown, but I think she collected it quite quickly)
- BK drives into King Road and parks behind house at 4.07am
- BK enters through sliding door (time not known, but I guess about 4.10ish)
- Xana takes what is left of the food into the kitchen, while BK is upstairs (after 4.12am, per her tiktok use)
- Xana hears noises from above (possibly sees Murphy is downstairs, and goes up to investigate and/or take Murphy up to Kaylee - my theory, but this is similar to what Gray Hughes thinks may have happened)
- Xana says "There's someone here" and BK chases her back downstairs and into her bedroom
- Thud and whimper is heard on cctv audio 4.17am
- BK'S car is seen leaving area at 4.21am

But...

She was eating in the kitchen.

And he entered through the kitchen.

He entered first IMO.

Xana left half eaten fries on the microwave in the kitchen (the photo)
when she heard strange commotion.

BK was ALREADY upstairs.

They seemed to pass in the kitchen by mere minutes.
(First he, then she)

IF she had been eating in her room,
she would have left half eaten food in her bedroom, no?

🤔

That's what I thought until today. Now it seems she was eating in the kitchen (which makes sense), and that was AFTER he had entered the house and had gone upstairs.

Then she goes upstairs (from the kitchen) and encounters him.

In the end, it doesn't matter, but it seems different than what I originally pictured.
