GUILTY (PLED) CT - Jeffrey, 56, & Jeanette Navin, 55, Easton, 4 Aug 2015

The article said they owned a sanitation company so maybe some of the utilities were for the business.

I know at first glance this seems to be a case of a couple who have so much debt they didn't think they could ever catch up so they took off but I hope LE is looking at other scenarios. If they did leave on their own, I would think the would go out of the country.

A couple with that many debts may also have enemies...

I don't think the utilities were for the business, the property for which the utilities were owed was the residence in Guilford: "A lawsuit was filed in New Haven Superior Court on Feb. 20, 2014, by Connecticut Light and Power Company against Jeffrey Navin and Robert Cassidy for $130,617.57 in unpaid electric bills for property at 7 Hart Landing in Guilford." http://www.thewestonforum.com/52697/jeffrey-navin-missing-man-had-financial-problems/

Also from the same article: "In court documents, Cassidy was described as a retired priest undergoing chemotherapy treatment in Texas."

Why did Navin own a residential property with a retired priest who is in Texas?

I looked pretty carefully at the court documents. Cassidy never owned the property. He apparently agreed to be on the electric bill as a favor (he says). A letter he wrote explaining the situation is in the court file online. He said that the resident has six children, one of whom is disabled. I wonder who was living in the house.

Well, their son has been named a person of interest: http://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/...d-Missing-Couple-Investigation-322332851.html

The son of a wealthy Easton couple who vanished earlier this month has been named a person of interest in their disappearance, according to a source close to the investigation...State police major crime detectives took over the case Wednesday and spent the evening searching the home at 142 Aldine Avenue in Bridgeport, which police say belongs to the couple's son, Kyle Navin. A source familiar with the investigation told NBC Connecticut Kyle Navin is a person of interest. Neighbors said they last saw him about a week ago. "It's scary," said Bridgeport resident Stephen Parisi. "I live here, and this is 50 feet from my house. I want to know what's going on here."

How do you even rack up $130,000 in electric bills? Wouldn't it get turned off way before then? Or did they use a crazy amount of electricity and that was only a few months? I guess it doesn't matter in terms of helping find them, just seems weird to me.

Very strange unless it was multiple houses? Who knows. My neighbor ran up $6000 in his electric bill. The Electric company never turned off his electric because he was on oxygen.

The house on Hart Landing is over 8,000 square feet with an indoor pool. Very modern with high ceilings. I can imagine that to heat and cool a house like that, as well as operate the pool, $1500 a month for electricity is not unreasonable.

Thanks everyone for the updates.
What a strange case.
It's a bit weird to think the son is a poi; since if he harmed the parents (no evidence of that yet), wouldn't the debts default to him ?
Not sure what the laws are in that state.
I have a hard time thinking their enemies harmed them, since they wouldn't be able to collect from deceased persons. Have the authorities followed a money trail-- if there is one ?
And has a large amount of money or other assets suddenly gone missing ?

I think that the son would only be liable for the debts if they were also in his name. Otherwise, the debt would go to their estate when they pass. I can't find any information to the contrary for CT.

Maybe I've watched 'Mafia' movies too much but isn't this typical behavior for a debt owing, sanitation company owning NJ guy? He was smart to put the house in his wife's name only. How could they live out the rest of their lives, paying back that money, while his wife works as an assistant to the librarian in a public school?
Many sanitation companies in CT were "controlled" for years by the Mafia.. this was not a secret. You are correct.
