Police seek help to identify mystery man hit by train at Brunswick

Police are trying to identify a mystery man who has been in hospital for nearly five weeks and has only been able to utter a few words since being hit by a train in Melbourne's inner-north.

A train struck the man between Royal Park and Jewell railway stations on the Upfield line in Brunswick on Thursday, July 7, before paramedics took him to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police have now released a computer-generated image of the man, who is about 175 centimetres tall, between 65 and 75 years old, and of medium build.

He has a prominent mole below his left eye and was wearing black runners with white soles, black socks and a black belt at the time of the incident.

The victim is believed to be around 65 to 75 years-old and was rushed to hospital at the time of the incident with life threatening head injuries. He remains in a serious condition.

Authorities have been unable to identify him despite “extensive enquiries.” He had no phone, wallet or cards on him at the time he was hit.

He was non-communicative but was able to mumble the names “Roy”, “Ryan” and “Coburg”. It was unclear whether he was referring to himself or somebody he knows.

Sounds like he hasn’t been reported missing. Estranged from family perhaps? Seems he is lucky to be alive, perhaps this was a suicide attempt. Hope they can find his people.

Almost 24 hours after the Transit Crime Investigation Unit released a facial composite of the man, police confirmed on Thursday afternoon that they had learnt his name.

“We will not be providing further information but would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
