For her to be primarily ASPD (aka a "Sociopath"), there would be a stronger sense or self combined with lies for the sake of a lie. Sociopaths show a history of theft, burglary, charisma, and lies, lies, lies. Many more men are diagnosed a Sociopath than women by and large.

I agreed with much of what you write except I think she is a psychopath, not sociopath. People get the two really confused these days. Psychos are able to wear a mask and plan (Hannibal Lector types) and sociopaths are more likely to live on the fringes of society and be more obvious in their ASPD (son of Sam types).

For some reason the two definitions have been switched in modern society due to the connotation of the word "psycho". Psychopaths actually move through society easier than sociopaths. I have to constantly recheck myself on terminology with these two bc like most ppl I've been known to call out some obvious crazy emotional midgets "PSYCHO!" a few times in my life... Not proud of that... But hey I'm human (btw what up human! Morning!)

For me, I think Jodi started out in the relationship with a mask and calculated intentions toward her object of obsession (not affection) Travis. Her cracks started to show when she would get angry, manipulative, and obsessive (aka her psychopathy) and Travis called her out on it finally.

I do agree with everything else you said though! Morning honey!

I think JA is too vain to self-mutilate—unless she got into a traffic accident from having her car's rear-view mirror trained on her own face. I would bet money that the only self-harm she did was done by her inability to see that harming other people would ultimately injure her own fine self.

And yeah, she wouldn't self harm bc as she mentioned before "it would hurt too much" and she's scared of that. So if she doesn't have the guts to kill herself to get rid of the problem (herself), she will desert (her family) or destroy(Travis) that which causes her to have her problems (problems of uncontrollable anger, need to control, and lack of self awareness and identity.)

She is in deep denial of her inability to form an identity based off of tangible empathetic connections with the society around her. The only connections she makes are in vain. Hm. Vanity.

Oh yeah and Jodi reminds me of a character in Snow White:

The Wicked Queen who is obsessed with her mirror - she's a woman so ashamed and in denial of her own emptiness/ugliness that she seduces those beautiful souls she envies with her poison apple in hopes of destroying them.

(enter picture of Disney witch outside Snow Whites Door with an Apple to June 4th evidence please...)

And you know! Travis took care of his 7 siblings like virtuous snow white took care of those dwarves!

Hate comparing them to dwarves, but the significance of the number 7 in the metaphor is staggering.

Another thing that is very unhealthy. A child that has to become the parent. Not good for the child nor the other children who have a "parent" who has the skills of a child.

This question was asked before, but I am so astounded that those children were left to live the way they did. The grandparents knew.

Living in a tent behind the house. Kind of like Jaycee Dugard. Pathetic

Hello everyone. This is my first post and I hope it is in the correct thread.

I think that Jodi Arias is a true psychopath, with definite narcissistic qualities. She is a freaky person to watch and observe. My heart goes out to Travis Alexander's family and friends.

Over the weekend, we heard that this psycho wants cable television. She has apparently manipulated someone to cover the expense for her cable TV for 5 years. How disgusting!

Don't you all think that perhaps she wants cable before Lifetime airs the movie "Dirty Little Secret?" It seems quite strange that all of a sudden she wants to manipulate the people around her by trying to make them believe she is "mentally ill." This person is afraid of death row! Which is definitely where she belongs. No cable TV either!

I always thought that Jodi Arias was a psychopath and borderline narcissist. She is very prone to envy and is highly manipulative. Envy is an extreme form of jealousy mixed with resentment.

Self-mutilation is only a part of it...not always will someone with BPD do self-mutilation. OR she could have done it and no one knows about it. Or you are totally right. Or she is just all of the above one big mess

I think Jodi's form of 'self mutilation' would have been giving herself bruises then telling people like Matt McCartney they came from Travis. My older sister who is diagnosed BPD gave herself a black eye once when she was a teen ager so other people would feel sorry for her (she told me this herself after a few years in therapy), and I can't help but think this kind of self injuring is more in line with the way BPD individuals harm themselves- to manipulate others.

What happens when you unmask a Psychopath?

"What happens when a psychopath’s mask of sanity shatters? The result is rarely as spectacular as it was in the cases of Mark Hacking and Neil Entwistle. Fortunately, most psychopaths don’t commit gruesome murders. Even when they do, their crimes are rarely featured so prominently on the national news. But once you unmask a psychopath, the picture you come to see is very ugly and deeply disturbing.

As we’ve observed, on the outside, a charismatic, garden-variety psychopath appears to be charming, nice, helpful, loving, calm and collected: sometimes uncannily so, and in inappropriate circumstances, but even that may seem, at first, like a blessing. But on the inside, a psychopath is always a repulsive individual: completely self-absorbed, unreliable, unethical and unloving. A psychopath’s social and moral boundaries are almost entirely based on his ability to create a positive impression on those around him. Those moral boundaries, which he violates behind people’s backs, and his phony yet often compelling displays of emotion function as his disguise. Through them, he gains other people’s trust, respect, admiration and sometimes even love. He then uses them for his own selfish and destructive purposes.

A psychopath is unmasked in life over and over again. Because his disorder is so deeply engrained in his character, he uses, dupes and manipulates people everywhere he goes. When he gets bored with one location, job or set of acquaintances—or when he’s unmasked in that environment—he moves on to the next. There he has the opportunity to make a fresh start: to dupe and use new people; to charm and destroy a new set of unsuspecting victims.

Quite often, psychopaths also depend upon a few individuals with whom they’ve established their main dominance bonds: their life partners, their parents, their children or their closest friends. After periods of open transgression, they return to them acting repentant, declaring their love or promising to reform. Such individuals often forgive them and accept them back into their lives.

This is not just out of love, but also out of denial: accepting reality would be too painful to bear. They’re too emotionally invested in the psychopath and in the central role he plays in their lives. Often, the women who love psychopaths justify staying with their disordered partners because they have a child or children with them. But this can only be a rationalization, given the fact that having no conscience, psychopaths frequently abuse their own children. It’s never in the best interest of any child to be in close proximity to a psychopathic father. In fact, the psychopath can only be a very bad influence on his child or children and even put their lives in peril. Therefore, when a woman stays with a known psychopath “for the sake of the children,” it’s usually because he has gutted out her identity to such an extent that she feels empty and lost without him."

Excellent read! I really enjoyed that article. I'll tell you what is even worse is a Psychopath who is also NPD. They never let you rest from their exhausting presence, tell you you're garbage, then claim your victimization for themselves. It's shocking!

I read on TA's blog that his family was living in a camper shell in his aunt's back yard. I wonder why the aunt would not let them live in the house??

He wrote that he wore dirty clothes to school, that he stank and had lice. The teachers did not notice? Why wasn't CPS called or the school counselor made aware of his appearance? He wrote that the police were called many times due to the violence between his mother and father. The police did not take those kids? And yes, the grandparents knew. He wrote his grandmother lived nearby and finally picked him. Very strange. MOO

Sometimes people are just simply in denial of the gravity of a situation. Maybe the family feared the kids would get put into foster care and were just waiting for the grandparents/someone to step in and take care.

Unfortunately many times these abuses just go unchecked socially and stay within the family for generation after generation :(

I too wonder why the aunt didn't just let them stay with her...

I can only think it was some kind of Mormon loyalty--- not to expose them.

Female Psychopathy and sex

http://www.whale.to/c/female_psychopaths.html

"The hormone testosterone is the key to recognising female psychopaths. They all have the same elevated levels of the hormone as male psychopaths. Higher testosterone levels are associated with increased sex drive, increased sexual activity and as a result a desire to hold power over men. Vicious bullying and aggressive exploitation of non-psychopathic females in workplaces and organisations is also common with the pathology. Testosterone may also be related to the lack of parenting behavior seen in many psychopathic women. Psychopathic females have been found to be less interested in motherhood—even when they have children.

I know what you're saying, but there are countless examples of CPS failing in their duty to protect children ..

Not sure this is backed up by anything. Seems like a dubious source?

Here's a male diagnosed with BPD from a case here ..

He said Bayley, who he diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, was a violent sexual predator who fantasised about assuming a position of power and control over his victims, who he typically blamed for his crimes.

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/2013/06/11/11/54/hearing-over-jill-meagher-s-murder

Clearly we need to understand this condition better, we have been so conditioned to jump at a ASPD (psychopathy) diagnosis with violent offenders that tend to do it almost automatically .. it also seems that the distinction between BPD and ASPD is not easy to understand.

You got that right! I am not really a fan of CPS (I have read plenty of horror stories) and it seems that they fail some children once the children are in the CPS system. With Travis' situation it seems that he and his siblings were not even on the CPS radar. I have no idea of the real situation, only what I read on his blog.

I said he was full of it because he denies BPD altogether and then put up a conspiracy theory with zero evidence to support his incredible bias .. that pretty much put him in the BS category from that point on, although it may be true that when there is comorbidity between BPD and ASPD some gender differences may place the women in the BPD category, and the men in the ASPD category, but I'd rather read from a reputable source. Just to clarify the different traits ..

ASPD: http://outofthefog.net/Disorders/ASPD.html
