Was there no other way to find out it's age other than killing it? Geeze!

The headline:

Scientists Find Oldest Living Animal, Then Kill It

reminds me of that bumper sticker:

Join the army. Meet interesting people. Kill Them.

Newsflash. You're one of them. :p

I hope they at least honored its life by steaming it and then giving it a bath in clarified butter and lemon juice.

Yummy! Of course the younger ones are more tender.....

LOL Paladin. Yeah, I'm one but sometimes I'm :o to admit it. lol
I hope the poor little clam at least got a chance to give them a good spit before he "expired".

Hey, wait a minute, we can't "really" know who's writing here. I could be a big, giant clam who grew fingers......................

It makes me think of the John Steinbeck book "Log from the Sea of Cortez" when he talks about how scientists who love animals collect them and keep their dead bodies in jars. He philosophizes on the beauty of live animals vs the sadness of the dead ones. It's a beautiful, thought provoking book. (And was partially written by his zoologist friend Doc).
