Im stating to wonder if Maybe they WILL go with Bergoglio - a nod to the strength of the Latin American church, and the Italians will be okay with it since he is of Italian ancestry?

He was still at 50/1 earlier today. If it's deadlocked his age - he's 76 - would actually work in his favor as a compromise choice would need see, I'd think, a shorter papacy. Wait - PP has bumped him back down to 40/1. Hm.

I watched the " Shoes of the Fisherman" starring Anthony Quinn, on TCM

about 2 weeks ago. I was surprised that the movie showed a conclave

of Cardinals and how votes are tallied and then burned. In the movie

a Russian was elected, and then influenced world affairs, kinda like

JohnPaul II. The movie is worth a look.

I so loved my Polish Pope that he was always my screen saver, and

I still am a member of FFJ, writing under the hat name, pope.

My prayers are for a Pope who has the charisma of both John Paul

and John Paul II. And I am proud to say I have a personal blessing

from John Paul II, (my polish cleaning lady was a friend of his from

Krackow). The blessing means so much to me.

I'm not familiar with all orders of priests, but Jesuits and Vincentians are well-known for their outstanding educational institutions.

Within ecclesiastical circles, Jesuits at least have a mixed reputation over their stances, it has nothing to do with their educational institutions. It's simply theological rivalries and church politics at work. That's what I was referring to when I talked about their mixed reputation outside of the lay world.

Well I overslept and missed the mass appsrently. Currently the Vatican player is just showing the square, with some people reciting the rosary in Latin in the background.

VATICAN CITY — VATICAN CITY (AP) — Cardinals enter the Sistine Chapel on Tuesday to elect the next pope amid more upheaval and uncertainty than the Catholic Church has seen in decades: There's no front-runner, no indication how long voting will last and no sense that a single man has what it takes to fix the many problems.

On the eve of the vote, cardinals offered wildly different assessments of what they're looking for in the next pontiff and how close they are to a decision. It was evidence that Benedict XVI's surprise resignation has continued to destabilize the church leadership and that his final appeal for unity may go unheeded, at least in the early rounds of voting.

Cardinals held their final closed-door debate Monday over whether the church needs more of a manager to clean up the Vatican's bureaucratic mess or a pastor to inspire the 1.2 billion faithful in times of crisis. The fact that not everyone got a chance to speak was a clear sign that there's still unfinished business on the eve of the conclave.

"This time around, there are many different candidates, so it's normal that it's going to take longer than the last time," Cardinal Francisco Javier Errazuriz of Chile told The Associated Press.

"There are no groups, no compromises, no alliances, just each one with his conscience voting for the person he thinks is best, which is why I don't think it will be over quickly."

Plus, they're in the middle of Rome... You probably couldn't get a bad meal there if you tried.

They are currently taking the oath in the small chapel. So the procession into the Sistina has not happened yet, but soon, if any want to watch/listen.

Currently I can't get a feed on the Vatican player website, but the Pope App is working nicely.
