Given his age, we could be looking at a 20 year pontificate - which in itself could present problems if things don't go well.
Starting with those who have been abused by Catholic clergy would be radical. He's got some big shoes to fill. I have hope that he can have a holy impact on those who are marginalized and suffering.
Because a lot can happen in 20 years, and there was a feeling, I think, that John Paul II's reign was just too long. Why would this be any different than the 12 year pontificate that the late Pope Francis, an Argentinian by citizenship have.
Pope Francis brought him to the Vatican and made him a Cardinal. Prior to that, he was an Archbishop in Peru. And he also served as the head of the Augustinian Order.Commentator is saying he was appointed a cardinal in 2023. That's only two years ago.
on dutch tv a friend of the new pope happened to be present when it was announced. there were questions in the studio about whether the new pope could be influenced by the trump administration when he has to make decisions, and his friend said definitely not!He addressed the crowd in Italian and Spanish, not in English.
More a son of Peru than of the United States, which he left when he was young.
I would hope that a pope would not be influenced by any administration when he has to make decisions.on dutch tv a friend of the new pope happened to be present when it was announced. there were questions in the studio about whether the new pope could be influenced by the trump administration when he has to make decisions, and his friend said definitely not!
