You may be right, although I think it will be wishful thinking by police so they can stick their heads into any cave or mineshaft without the fear of Dezi waiting inside.
However, the risk of a booby trap even if Dezi is dead is real so the fear of entering should remain imo.
One good thing about this latest search with the extra 100 is to clear the area for safety reasons because the national park will sooner or later be open again to bushwalkers.

It should have been very clear that Mt Buffalo national park was the obvious place where Dezi would hide.
For a month police had 450 people out looking for Dezi, so why hasn't the park been completely searched so it can be reopened without any risk of Dezi causing anyone harm.
Until that happens, I believe there will always be a risk to the public and the police are responsible for removing that risk.

I agree. The Mt Buffalo National Park is enormous. Its 331 square kilometres of mountainous bush land. Porepunkah is on the edge of the park too so its possible he didn't go far into the park before turning around and travelling in the opposite direction.

This should apply to the whole of Australia!

If it's too big a job to search thoroughly then just open it up again. Tell the public it hasn't been searched properly and to enter at their own risk.
I certainly wouldn't be doing that and I don't think that would absolve authorities of litigation if someone gets hurt by what Dezi may have set up.
More than 40 square kilometres of land have been searched on foot and by air. How much more is there to search?

Thanks for the advice @Kemug. I would actually love to join in the search for Dezi or Gus but I think the risk of being shot at would be very high in both instances.

Also there is no way of knowing if Dezi remained in the Mt Buffalo area, or headed off elsewhere.

I’ve no doubt he’s a skilled ‘survivor’. His love of the outdoors & the wilderness has been well reported. I would expect he’s done lots of ‘rough camping’, and I think it’s quite possible that he’s supplemented the family food (and budget ) with his wild caught supplies over the years.

That’s why a part of me is not convinced that he’s deceased. … on the other side is the thought that he would never allow himself to be captured alive to face the force of the laws that he professes not to believe in. ( I’m aware that some people adopt beliefs that are ‘very different’ / outside the norm - often I think it gives them some sort of ‘status’, something that they are an expert in, something that people will often refrain from the ‘argument’ about)

But, having said all that, I would doubt that Dezi would give up without a fight. .. Chief Crazy Horse comes to mind
