Breaking News - Heavy police presence at Balboa High School in San Francisco

Police are responding to an incident at a San Francisco high school.

A heavy police presence could be seen at Balboa High School on Thursday afternoon.

Authorities confirmed that the school is currently on lockdown, as is the nearby James Denman Middle School and Leadership High School.

Officers were carrying weapons and ambulances were likewise at the scene.

No details have yet been released by the police or school.

Balboa High School and two other nearby schools in San Francisco were placed on lock down late Thursday morning after reports of gunfire, according to a student at the school.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., students were placed on lockdown and asked to stay in their classrooms and shelter in place following reports of a single gunshot.

A source tells ABC7 News that police have found a gun on campus of Balboa High School and are currently searching for the person who the weapon belongs to.
