Post Verdict -Working Out The Unresolved Questions

Then there was the Nurmi reply to Martinez's response. We were not "privileged" to read either one. FRUSTRATION!

How is it that Arias had no bandages nor signs of injury in her afternoon photos with Travis on June 4 but came into Utah with bandages on her finger according to Ryan Burns?

Good catch. I never noticed that.

As summer began, Nurmi was bent on forcing a result in his ambition to salvage the life of his client. Her lack of cooperation as evidenced in t.v. interviews and twitter, plus a series of defeats & refusals, has left him spent. This is not a good state to do battle, going into the pretrial conference or the back room negotiations. J.W. must be busy with her other cases or recuperating from this one, as we don't hear from her or see her on the scene. Unfortunately, the presence of C.M. is felt and it is la la la, it's all being done for me.

Rest at ease, Nurmi's motion was denied. See p. 4 of this ruling. The first ruling, that he was "a bit previous" in filing what he did relates only to the issue of seeking to throw out something that hadn't been decided by judge or jury, i.e., her sentence. All of his arguments were subsequently shot down in pages 2, 3, and 4.

I counted the number of donors and magazine annual subscriptions that have been given to C.M. There are 15! These are in addition to the more than 400 books that well wishers have sent to her. No wonder she is JodiBookPage, a.k.a. varlet.

I was referring to our being denied entire document visuals. lol Sorry, poor choice of words on my part. I tried using the other link to look up minutes but it asked for the officer, is that JM or JSS?

They provide Judicial Officer Sherry Stephens minutes but I am not seeing the filings by parties to cases. That doesn't mean they are not there though. Every county has its own style of website, so let's keep digging.

Alrighty, dig we shall.

I wonder if, in the 7/16 order, the 'affirming prior custody orders' means she went back to regular hold in the jail like any other unsentenced inmate and that's why the book club, tweeting, etc. is because she has regained her previous liberties because of this delay? The wording above just struck me, I could be totally off.

The closed custody was due to what was interpreted as a suicidal inclination. First she was put on suicide watch at a suitable facility and then into closed custody even after the hold expired. I never heard it was removed, did you? And there would have to be a basis for re-assessing her. Of course, a shrink could provide that but we wouldn't necessarily know about that. A reporter could ask the sheriff what her status is.

I have been searching "Case Documents" and we want Docket date 8/9/2013. REL-Reply Party (001) with of course, our case #. And....I've found nothing relevant. Yet. Here's another objection to these out of sight documents. The People of the State of Arizona have a right to see them (even if we don't). Yet they aren't available period, seemingly. But maybe if we lift a few more corners.

If we go back over all the orders leading up to July 16, we may find what the court was affirming as to the manner of her custody.

Here's another thought______Based on that date, which was also our last hearing, why could this not have been the subj. of the in chambers meeting with Nurmi, C.M. and Judge Stephens? C.M. could have complained & begged the Judge to put her back into normal custody.

Could well have been the reason for the exparte since it wouldn't concern JM/the state. And you know she's likely been complaining about the closed custody all along. Maybe the "normal-sounding" tweets are meant to convince others of her stable mind? But does the judge have any input in her custody even? It doesn't actually mention her, and may refer to something else alotgether. Hmmm

7/16 affirmed a prior order, so if none intervened between 5/14 and the July hearing, she would remain unable to entertain media requests.

:please:
Speaking of our main ingredient, I wonder how she has taken the news of the denial? What stalling plot is she now working, out of the light of her counsel and all else? Nurmi and Willmott must have expected a big red fail with motion so should have had ideas on how to proceed, but saucy miss must have her own dark thoughts braising.

We have enough dough left over for an absolutely killer tart. Let's fill this with what Herself, not a selfie, will bring to the August 26 party. I will venture that she comes as the decorous & courtly but long suffering martyr. Like Mary Queen of Scots going to the block.

I saw that she has quite a few magazines listed on her "Book Club" site. Estrella does have a policy on reading materials:

"NEWSPAPERS AND MAGAZINES:
Subscription publications must be purchased directly through a publisher. An inmate may possess at any one time: 3 books, 5 magazines, and 1 newspaper. Publications that may pose a threat to the security or safety of the jail or are pornographic in nature are not allowed. The publisher must place an invoice with the book or it will be rejected. No hard-covered publications are allowed."

Note that the above appears to be a guideline, based on the use of the word "may"and the absence of definitive wording, such as "maximum number allowed".

Sheriff Joe gave the press a tour of CMJA's cell after she was moved to her solitary cell and the press pictures seem to show more than numbers shown above for both books and newspapers. (http://www.whas11.com/news/slidesho...tml?gallery=y&c=y&ref=/news/slideshows&img=10)

I don't know if you already found the answer, but to obtain copies of court documents, one would have to go to the Clerk of Superior Court and request and pay for the documents.

Here's a link to the webpage which describes the process: http://www.clerkofcourt.maricopa.gov/copies.asp

When the trial was very active, a Twitter user with the name zou2 was tweeting links to court documents. IIRC, zou2 is an attorney; it seemed that proximity to and familiarity with the courthouse made this relatively easy for the person to help the public out with this info.

There was also someone on WS who was checking on court documents for us back in the spring; I'm doing some searches to see if I can find her user name. IIRC, she gave us the gist of the documents, without providing access to the documents.

Well, you know how these regulations & manuals read. I agree, liability should always be spelled out clearly. If the DMV manual reads you may turn left after all drivers proceeding straight or right have cleared, you will be cited and given a ticket if you go first. If she's gathering books & newspapers in her cell, she's violating the limit with impunity. Do you think she is carving a grey area for herself by her supposed donations to other inmates of her publications? I can almost hear her justifying the overage but I don't want to listen, KWIM?
