its not that he didnt want them to call for help
he didnt want their body being found
if the phone was on their person
BUT.....he could get the girl from her location
and toss the phone IMMEDIATELY...
therefore - the phone would be found....right there
but....that would indicate....something...was wrong
cuz...any normal person would retrace their steps to get their phone
immediately.....or...the next day
but..the phone might be picked up by some stranger and used
*didnt mbb have an extra phone that was picked up by someone else
in times square?*
nevertheless...it would be a red flag to LE.
but..if the phone was left in the hotel room (mw)
or...with DS (ahem cough cough)
instead of AC having a phone on her....
no chance of tracing the body....
so speaking of DS...WHY didnt he report AC missing?
he NEVER reported her missing. NEVER.
but...that being said
HE's been cleared by LE.
Yeah, it's about locating them at some point in the chain of events. But if I go through it for the two options, we discuss at the moment ...
The moment, he attacks
- option A, the stalker. He has all hands full at that moment, so he can get rid of that phone only a few minutes later when he has subdued the victim. And if the victim struggles on or he fears (maybe right, maybe wrong), someone has seen the whole stunt or heard something, he tries to get some distance to the attack site. Which means, the phone maybe would ping some miles away.
- option B, the homicidal John. Lets forget about all the other problems with that theory. He wouldn't attack if he would know, she has a phone. Therefore, he doesn't know. He can only find it when he searches her and her purse. Which he can only do after subduing her. But in that case, the phone would have pinged already for some time in a static position. However, he would maybe be clever enough to bring the still pinging phone to another place before smashing it. So the last ping is not the relevant one and if LE is stupid enough, they maybe miss the relevant location.
So, an hour or so after the attack, the phone would be destroyed or thrown away in an irrelevant location. Unless something goes really wrong. For example the victim struggles more than expected. The phone falls in some cracks. Something like that.
Now, the homicidal John would have that crack at home. LE would have found him, this story would be long over. Butin the case of a stalker, blitz-attacking and driving off with the subdued victim, the phone would be most likely in the car and thus on the move. Till he finds it. We would see in case of a stalker pings from the victim's phone near to the abduction site, on the way from the abduction site to the kill site (which would appear as the odd data points) and, if things go really bad wrong, all his way around till the batteries are empty in case, he doesn't find the phone. So, we have Massethingybums and that is surely an odd data point.
