My only thought is that he/she/they come upon their victims in ads or on the street? If in ads why is there a small child among the dead?Maybe somebody needed a ride and was offered one after missing a bus or somebody did not show up to ride them someplace?
Probably has something to do with a bus stop? I say this only because lots of people do mix up bus schedules...not sure?Lots of Bogus replies to ads too...maybe some were thinking they were going to eat or something? Are any bus stops near the island?

I have a theory about how the child's body could be connected. An ex-prostitute I know of used to bring her baby with her to meet clients. I have mentioned this before here and others have said that it's not unheard of.

One thing that I realized from reading Kolker's book was the connection between street work and online escort work. Melissa Barthelemy worked the streets around Times Square/Port Authority, the same general area that Jessica Taylor worked, and the same general area where Maureen Brainard-Barnes rented hotel rooms, and where she later went missing. So it's not an either/or. Whoever the killer is, he seems to be familiar with both the online escorts and the street scene.

It's interesting to note that, in one call to Melissa's little sister, LISK stated that he was watching her sister rot. My personal feeling is that he got a sense of power from knowing these girls were right there under everyone's noses, but only HE could see them. Hence the burlap. It's camouflage...unless you knew where you were looking and what you were looking for.

In my mind, a serial killer is defined as someone who has killed 3 or more victims, picks victims at random, goes through a "cooling off" period, and meets some psychological need by killing his victims. So yes, in my opinion, LISK is a classic example of a serial killer.

Agreed about the burlap. Helps camouflage the bodies. Probably also helps keep the bones and such from being scattered by animals and whatnot.

About watching the bodies rot... Is it possible he held onto the bodies for an extended period of time? For the average person that would be extremely unpleasant, but Ted Bundy (as just one example) visited and had relations with the corpses of his victims long after they had died. Sorry for my crudeness.

I have said it before. A construction worker who was working on the bridges(who were being worked on during the time all of the victims were killed) would be able to see the spot they were dumped from the bridge. A construction worker would also be around there in the summer months more than winter. A construction worker would also have a lot of cash on Thursdays/Fridays.
They would also be familiar with city since that was a union job and they brought unions in from manhattan to work on it.

Early on I thought the killer might be a life guard. Some of them have worked as guards for decades. Several of them come to Long Island from out of state in the spring to go through the testing process and then are told which south shore beach they will be assigned to. I saw the documentary called the Jones Beach Boys.

Sounds completely plausible. The only question is how literal he was being when he said he wanted to watch her body rot. I suspect he didn't just dump them to forget about them, so I can certainly see him gaining some sick satisfaction from being able to view their dumping grounds while he worked.

Regardless, I'd put money on him returning to the sites and possibly pulling over to spend time with the bodies, even if he remained in the car. I suppose we've scoured all googlemaps and satelite images taken from that time? My memory is fuzzy.

This guy is local to the area and lives and works within a few miles of the dump site(s) -

He sometimes (or use to) work in or near the city- he may have changed jobs or transfered shortly after Melissa's disappearance as he felt there may be some heat. I also feel there was something more personal about Melissa. Perhaps he had a thing for her or knew her aside from her profession.

He is in his late 40's, married and has kids
His wife is "the boss" at home (like most men :) She's too good for him and they both know it. She stays with him because it's easier than starting over. She is the primary breadwinner. She has a way of controlling him when he begins to enter a rage. When she's not there to stop it, he becomes dangerous.
She knows he is dangerous but turns a blind eye since he is not abusive to her. He tales his anger toward his wife out on others. Some of the victims may resemble her

People are uncomfortable around him. Although they don't realize why, and most learn to ignore it or file it away.

He has stalking tendencies

He has a gross grandoise delusions.

He may suffer from MPD - people may notice how quickly his demeaner changes or he becomes enraged.

He uses his work as a means to control others. If he is in a power position at work, working beneath him is hell as he seeks out opportunitties to dictate personal lives as well as work life. He may often loses clients (or his job) due to his controlling nature and obsessive and sometimes angry nature.

His work gives him access to the use of numerous vehicles. He uses these vehicles to avoid having any evidence in his own vehicle and for protection in case anyone sees someone picking the girl(s) up

He travels Ocean Parkway often and may find opportunities to bring clients and friends along for a ride on the parkway- (you may wonder why you have gone that route - it's his way of taking a little credit and he may even discuss the case as they drive by the sites)

He may have changed jobs or transfered again shortly after the first of the bodies were found.

He gives clues to those around him. This may be because deep down he wants to be caught because he wants credit for the crimes. Or, it may be that he likes to feel he possess a jhigher intellect and feels he is proving that by dropping clues that nobody seems to catch on to. Someone out there could be putting the clues together ;)

He has revisited the sites and has left clues or trinkets. Look for a meaning to items left at the crosses. ;)

May have recently removed items from the dump sites.

He may have been killing for longer than anyone thinks. Dating back to his late teens or early 20's , either on Long Island or somewhere he went to school or work training. Look for similar style killings in groups of victims (3 or 4) that would have been near his age at the time. He was much younger and able to lure these girls back then.

He is not using the services of these girls prior to the fatal encounters. He would never have sex with an prostitute, He despises them and may have commented about this case or made comments that such women deserve what they got.

He may not be limited to escorts as he evolves once again. He feels there is the potential for entrapment by LE so may not use online ads for victims again. He may look for street level working girls or drug addicts or seek out any vulnerable woman alone at night.

At least one person has thought of him as a potential suspect and he has been looked at by LE already. He may still be on their radar

Mainegirl, you have alot of insight. Do you think the killer knew Melissa from Long Island or the Bronx? Do you think the killer is the person who contacted the girls or as Peter Brendt suspects, he stalked them after they were with a client? Peter believes the killer may live in the Bronx . Can you reveal what type of items are left at the crosses? Maybe its a passer by.

I think he worked near where Melissa lived and may have been familiar with her. He didn't take the time to contact any other families, this is why I feel there was more of a connection with her.

He had Maureen's phone but didn't contact anyone and more than likely, Megan would have had her phone most likely (we can't confirm as the police won't say what was left at her motel room) He also never contacted anyone in her life.

I believe he set up dates with them to kill them. I just don't think he was a prior client.

He is very persistant as evidenced by the number of times he called Amber. I believe he lives or works very close to where Amber was picked up. He may have attempted to set up a date with her prior to the the day he killed her and she didn't bite.

I think he has the same tendency to repeat call others when he isn't getting what he wants from them.

I also think he takes them to his work place that affords him complete privacy late at night. I also think he disables the door handles in the vehicles so they can't get out once they get in

He has left items that most people may not think is a clue. But if you know more about the items, it's obvious. I wish I could say more about this, but I've been asked not to as some has been taken as evidence already.

There could come a time when anyone watching a potential suspect starts sharing more information in hopes others can come up with the clues to solve this. ;)

I dont' feel this guy is any of the high profile suspects that have been discussed. SCPD is very stern in their insistance you do not discuss anything with anyone. But since it appears they are not getting this solved, maybe it's time

A teenage girl was murdered and left on a footbridge on Long Island. She was left naked except wearing boots.

Odd. She was from Lynbrook. I have often thought this guy could be connected to some prior murders in Lynbrook.

Some other guys had been sent to prison, but have been let out becuase DNA proved it wasn't them.

Lynbrook may be a palce this guy knows. IF you want to think he's been doing this that long

In the latest 48 Hours Varrone was asked if he thought an arrest would be made? That may not happen unless LE is willing to share more information with the public. Someone might recognize items left on OP. This is something LE should have anticipated. Why dosent LE take advantage of todays technology and use cameras?

Theres a girl that went missing many months ago. I think she lived in Nassau Co. I dont remember her name . She was mentioned in a much earlier post. Its not the girl that eventually returned home.

Girls diaappear and re-appear in that area all the time. Mostly with little to no attention on it. Take into account those from out of town and there's no telling if he's taken another victim

I think it's time for SCPD to admit they need help.

The FEDS can step in anytime. I guess they dont want to.

Mainegirl, if the police doesnt want anyone revealing any information about this case then they should be reminded that this case possibly dates back to 1996. No arrest made whether theres two killers or not. I think they need the publics help and will get no where without it.

Hes pulling over allright. This time to leave trinkets.

Many times when I watch Jeopardy I am amazed how these people have all the right answers to questions I have no idea ever existed. Who would know this crappy things. Often I have seen these same 'brainiacs' go into Final Jeopardy and blow the easiest question of them all. I mean even I knew that one cold. The morale of the story is this:

When you know the answer to a question the answer is easy.

The detectives maybethisclose to the answer and can't see it. I think they have a pretty good idea how these gals wound up on the beach.
