POST YOUR QUESTIONS HERE Joseph Scott Morgan, Death Investigator, Ask Me Anything May 7th @8:00 PM Eastern

The Sodder kids... How plausible is it that all of them burned so completely that not a single bone remained? I've heard that it would take 2,000°F heat sustained for 2 hours - now assume that for 5 kids.

On the surface, it doesn't seem out of the question, because the house burned for 8-10 hours (I think). It also seems odd that they could have been kidnapped without anybody noticing (especially the mother, who was awakened every half hour). To kidnap 5 kids out of the 2nd floor of a home, it's safe to assume that there were at least 5 burglars, walking up creaky stairs, snatching all of them without any screaming.

One of the two scenarios had to have happened, but both would require highly unusual scenarios - then again, that might be why it resulted in such an unusual outcome. (I don't buy the theory that the only Sicilian Mafiosi who were loyal to Mussolini happened to be in Fayetteville, WV, though.)

I just listened to a podcast where you explained your introduction into autopsy, opening and closing, and your early life/ career around death and....decomposition. While I can admit to an acute case of true crimes, there are limits to what I can stomach, and it makes me appreciate all the more investigators who do the raw work.

Days later, I can't shake some of what you described. I can't even fathom dealing with the messy side of death day in and day out. Add in the criminal nature of many of those deaths, serious question, how do you hold on to  any love for humanity when you've seen the worst of what humans can do to our another?

In that vein, how do you maintain balance? What do you to to recharge, to clear your mental cache?

Mr. Morgan,

What would you make in the developments of the case of Diana Ramos? I interviewed her grandson. She was found with a rag in her mouth, CCTV was off on the 4th floor, and she only used her hotel key to go outside to get a snack and came back inside according to the hotel key log. No one else entered/exited according to the hotel key log. He states he has suspicions that someone knew the CCTV was off. Now, my question for you is that the rag in her mouth. As detectives has alluded they erroneously questioned whether this was a medical emergency. Why would someone put a rag in their mouth in a medical emergency? Thanks, Dustin.

[mod edit]

He wants someone to figure out his grandmother’s case and the Philadelphia police aren’t seemingly interested at the moment or since it happened.

Hello!
Would like to know your view on the Rebecca Zahau case. She was found with her feet bound at the ankles, hands tied behind her back at the wrist, nude, and I believe a shirt in her mouth. There was speculation of a sexual assault and controversy over manual strangulation VS a suicide hanging. What are your thoughts on whether or not Rebecca could have tied these knots herself and manner of death..homicide or self harm?
Thank you!

Thank you @Sweetluv. Great question. Remember to come back tonight and WATCH THE THREAD AT THIS LINK as JSM answers your questions LIVE at 8 PM Eastern

Medical examiner Vincenza Liviero told a court in Perugia (April 2009) that Meredith Kercher was killed by more than one person and her murder was “carried out by more than two hands”.

He said the murder could only have been by one person if they had “three or four hands”.

How many hands killed Meredith in your opinion? Do you think she was killed by one person or more?

Thank you for being here tonight to answer questions 🌷

Are there advancements in technology or forensic research in general that you are particularly excited about? If yes, what are they and how will they affect forensic investigation in the future.

Just want to thank Mr. Morgan for all the insight and time he shares with us. Just love hearing anything he’s discussing. He is so generous in joining podcasts, YouTube programs, and Websleuths! And of course Body Bags is just fascinating! I’m hooked!

BB suggestion: maybe do a few where instead of discussing a specific crime, you talk on a topic like rigor mortise (all aspects of topic), temperature (ambient and how it relates to bodies cooling), typical tox screen, all steps in post mortem, etc. Pick a topic like you were teaching a class :) Just an idea :)

Oh, sneaking this in under the wire I hope.

Mr. Morgan, you have just said in the Answer thread that "Epstein is at the top of the list, injuries sustained do not in any universe with narrative."

Fascinating. Are you able to elaborate on that?

Thank you.

Is there any chance in the world this case could be researched further? Even resolved?

Murdered: Stevie Johnston, age 9, d. 1966 in Bethesda, Md

Stevie Johnston, age 9, was abducted Mother’s Day afternoon in 1966 when he walked over to Kenwood Country Club in Bethesda, Md., to look for stray golfballs. He was murdered and his body was found the next morning near the railroad tracks (now a bike trail) along Little Falls Parkway. I was his age when this happened and it haunts me to this day. I drive by the spot where they found his body probably once a week and think of him. That precious little boy.
