Hi IdahoMom,
I agree with you,he was very snotty,and acting like he is:cool: "all that"(hat,sunglasses,blablabla) .
Hi honey:blowkiss:

I predict he gets worse with the $$$$. I've learned that $$$ makes most people more of the way they were before they had it.

(jerk before = super jerk after:snooty: )

Well one of the winners said that his father is a very important person in another country. The same one also said that the one who did not have $5.00 for the ticket should not be jealous! He said sorry thats the way it goes.
That's not fair. If the guy intended to give his money but didn't have it, I would think that he was part of the pool. How long of a lag was there between the guy saying that he didn't have the money and the winning numbers being drawn? Was there a rule that you had to pay up immediately or you were out??!!

ETA: I can well imagine that they would have hounded this guy for the $5 if they had lost. If so, they should also split the winnings.

Hi there Nanandjim,
You would think that one of them would have put in the $5.00 for the person. The person asked before the man went to buy the ticket.
The sole woman that won said that she was debt free, single and comfortable prior to winning the money. You would think that she would have put up the money until the person got payed. She also said how close all of the workers are.Well they could not have been that close if the person was not allowed to borrow the five dollars.....
I had that happen one time at work with a football pool. One of my friends let me borrow the money until payday.I won the football pool($300.00)and gave him his money, plus some.

Question for those talking about one of them being a jerk -- I watched the first part of the press conference and was wondering which guy in sunglasses you were talking about. The very first one WAS a jerk, but the second one (he is pictured on CNN's front page right now) was just funny. Which one were you talking about? Thanks

more than one of them had sunglasses/ballcap on......

Here's an interesting article on Jack Whittaker, the last big powerball winner. Worth the read if you have time!http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A36338-2005Jan25.html

I just finished reading that and i'm gobsmacked!

does it make me stop buying my lotto ticket this weekend?

maybe . . .

thanks very much for the link, Cheetah. a sobering tale indeed.

truly the winner was a :loser:

I don't know what else I would have done or not done, but you wouldn't catch my mug in the news. I'd want to remain anonymous.

I don't think you can remain anonymous. I believe as part of the winnings you have to agree to publicity for the lotto involved. Now, if there was danger to your life or something that might be waived. Does anyone know for sure? Also, does anyone know if the winnings are inheritable?

http://www.powerball.com/

Under "Winner's Stories" they have a listing of "anonymous", so I am guessing you do not have to tell the public who you are. Well, under the FAQ section, it does say that certain states they can tell whoever asks them who the winners are.

Also under FAQ section, it says that you can leave the annuity payments to anyone you want to....just like any other asset.

I didn't read back, so I don't know if this has been posted yet; if so, my apologies.

It was first mentioned that the lottery winner would get slightly over 124 million dollars if they took the lump sum now.

With 8 winers, each winner will receive 22.1 million dollars each. That's the tax savings of spreading the wealth among 8 people (8 X 22.1 ='s 176.8 million)..

Over 52 million dollars in tax savings. Include me when you win, and I'll return all but 3 million to you, after the heat is off.

I would have my own special group of 24 people, with a quiet agreement in place.
