Soooooo True!!!

Here's an interesting article on Jack Whittaker, the last big powerball winner. Worth the read if you have time!http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A36338-2005Jan25.html

I've heard of this guy's shennanigans before and I don't live in WV! However, I didn't know about the other stuff. Very sad that he never accepted responsibiltity. He blamed everything on his dranddaughter's drug-using friends.

julia i agree with you. It doesn't take foo foo stuff to make people happy. Wish my sister would head your advice. I'm a stay at home mom and while things may get tight (and I wish we had a little more income) we do not go without. We work hard for the things that we do have and my girls are happy and healthy...and that makes hubby and me happy.
Don't get me wrong, it's nice to dream and be secure. But I see too many people going into hawk to try to keep up with the Jones's and meanwhile the Jones's have been broke and live on plastic, paycheck to paycheck. It's best to live like I said within your means. At the end no one is going to care how much $ you have or don't have. Its you and your loving self that count. Seems like the more they have the worse they get. I almost pity them. I know it all sounds good in the start, but unless you are very smart, it won't work. I believe most lose all sense of their brain when they come into quick money. I am not sure if you are born with money if it's any different, I suppose it depends on the person! Just be happy and content that you can live a healthy, happy, semi-debt free life, with friends and family that you love and are devoted to. If you have a career you love that's great too. Nothing wrong with hard work.

I wonder if the winner knows yet!! WOW is right--you would never be short of money again, that is for sure. :)

Did you see on CNN the segment they had on huge lottery winners like this one? Most of them had so many tragedies in their lives. As they said sometimes it changes one's life for the worst not better.

I hope whomever won this one will be able to deal with the fact that even all this money cant buy happiness.

The lottery is nothing more than a tax on the poor. In GA, we have the hope scholarship that is funded with money from the lottery so it is kind of like letting the poor (who predominantly play the lottery more than any other group) pay for my kids to go to college. Since the poor essentially pay no taxes or very little it is a leveling device.

As with Marine Mom, they did a study of the big winners of State lotteries and often the winners end up poor again and miserable.....often divorced and friendless. Kind of sad.

Cal

Yes it is sad.

WSBTV did have one couple on that won the lottery for about 10 million in Georgia and they had succeeded in making sure they lived as normal a life as they could. They still live in their original home before their winnings and still have same friends they had before they won. They really seemed to have it "together" but that is rare unfortunately.

As a hopeful, I see such large opportunities to help others. Spread the wealth among many people not just greedy people wanting to exploit. Just think what this would do to help missing people? And, frankly, so many applications. I would still buy a house and make sure my retirement is secure and then I would help, help, help!

Now the news is saying that it is more than one person that went in on the winning ticket.Probably a group of people at a job that went in on the ticket together.

Yep, I just heard that on the news. It was a group of at least 7 that work (or maybe worked :D ) at a meatpacking plant. :woohoo:  Good for them! :woohoo:

8 people won.
They work at a meat packing plant.3 MEN WENT TO WORK AFTER THEY KNEW THEY WON.

7 men and 1 women.
They took the lump sum. Each check was 22.1 million dollars.
The lottery officials said that after taxes, they would receive 15.5 million each.

I just heard on the radio here (I live around there) that there was an additonal person that was supposed to go in on the ticket, but didn't have the $5 with them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: I certainly hope that the winners share (a little) with that person. A very diverse group of people won it looks like. 8 workers/meatpackers at Conagra food. 7 men, 1 woman.

I have been watching Fox News since the story came on.They are having each of them speak and answer questions.

The one who bought the ticket at the store was the Vietnam man.He has on a red had that he said is his lucky hat.The lottery officials said that he was shown wearing his lucky hat on the store video camera. They are still on Fox news right now.
The owner of the store gets $50.000.00 for selling the ticket. He yelled out and asked if anyone wanted to buy a store.

That guy pi$$ed me off when he said that. I don't think I like him.:slap:

This next guy seems to have some humility....said he and another guy didn't want to leave their employer in a bind, so they went back to work. :blowkiss:

Lol-I think I'd get up and go to work everyday too-at least until it stopped feeling like a dream. I'd be scared I'd wake up with no job!
