Prejudice against gays..

You know, we live in a world that is full of all kinds of people. Different color, race, background blah blah blah... The FACT is, we are not all going to agree. We can fight for our rights and even win those rights, but you are still going to have people out there that will fight against the rights we won because they don't agree with it.. How does this get solved? it doesn't and probably never will.. sorry, just my view of things... :boohoo:

Yeah, except the distinction with gay people is we are talking about rights that don't actually affect anyone but ourselves.

People who fight against such rights are bullies, plain and simple. They aren't supposed to prevail in the United States of America.

:clap::clap::clap:

Not only should we get up and scream and shout if our own rights are abridged as Americans; but we should scream and shout for our fellow Americans whom are not being treated fairly.
fabulous post... mt

Nova- you just struck a point, that I have never thought of, because I am fully in support of Gay rights- One of my very best friends, and my sil are the 2 I can think of in my "own" world, but what really hit me, as far as others political agenda......it doesnt affect anyone else---how simple and true is that? :doh: why should a person care, argue, or vote....because YOU want to leave your partrner your home, you or anyone other couple, have shared together...or life insurance, or health benefits---has no affect on me--even if I was against "rights"--- what a concept !!

It's like I always say: "If you don't believe in gay sex, that's fine; don't engage in gay sex. Just stay out of my bedroom." And we could add, "Stay out of my checkbook, too."

I have a family member that's gay and I worry about him all the time because of ignorant people like the one that killed this man. It definitely was a hate crime...no money taken and the question of "are you gay?" before he hit him. I sincerely can't understand why someone feels they have to take someone's life because they don't approve of their sexual preference. There's a lot of people out there that I don't approve of what they're doing but it doesn't make me want or give me the right to harm them.

Wouldn't it be nice if one night a year the capitol WAS decorated in red, white and blue lights to honor this gentleman?

The Patriot Act comes to mind. Off-topic...but the point is I can think of many rights as Americans we had, or should have, that are getting stepped on.

Why are we not getting up and screaming?

As for gay treatment...give it time. Rome wasn't built in a day. Women's and Black rights didn't happen overnight. People had to fight for it, and there was a price to pay. Some times it takes paying that price to make people see the light.

Paladin, you are absolutely correct: it isn't just gay people who should be shouting and demanding their rights.

As for "time," it works both ways, I think. On the one hand, it is certainly true that we have come further than I ever expected to see when I first came out, 35 years ago.

But on the other hand and because of those advances and the increased visibility of gays, there's really no excuse for people who still insist on denying us equal rights. Ignorance is no longer an excuse.

Of course not. What the gay community is up against is intolerance. Plain and simple, and that's taught directly (telling your child gays are bad, or bashing them to fit in with other people) and indirectly (overhearing a parent use derogatory words).

Bleh. A single person...in most cases...they're smart. You'd think that putting more and more people together would make everyone smarter...but as a whole we all seem to get a lot dumber.

BTW, Paladin, I was just thinking out loud in response to your excellent post. I knew you weren't suggesting gays or other minorities should "surrender" until our "time" comes.
