What does it mean when below a user's name it states "on time out", then later below the user name it states "inactive"? TIA

I have two questions:

1) When I signed up to be a registered user, the form would not accept my preferred email address because it is through yahoo. I used my work email, which is through the company and it accepted that but, now that I am a registered user, can I change my email to the yahoo one since I don't check my work email often and the account will be deleted if I change jobs? If so, how do I change it?

2) I requested verification of my counseling credentials and received a phone call where the woman interviewed me a bit to make sure I was who I said I was and had the education and expertise I claimed. She said I was now verified but what does that actually mean?

1) Yes, once you've become an established member, you can change your email. Send me a message privately with your preferred email and I'll get it changed for you.

2) Being verified means you are allowed to post about your profession as fact without being asked to provide a link. For example, if I said it was a law to walk your dog between the hours of 3 and 4 PM on the right side of the street, I'd have to provide a link. A verified law enforcement officer wouldn't have to link that statement.

A "time out" can be implemented for several reasons. The most common reason someone is issued a time out is due to a violation if our Terms of Service (TOS). It's a warning of sorts. It can be anywhere from a day to a month and on up. It's also used as a "cooling off" period for some of our members when they find themselves very passionate (perhaps a bit too passionate) about a subject and they simply need to walk away from the computer for a while, lest they be banned permanently for violating our TOS.

Inactive status can be for a variety of reasons. In most instances, the Inactive status is requested by the member, when they wish to retain membership, but will not be participating on the forum for an extended length of time. A member may also be placed on temporary Inactive status when Administration has issues to resolve with the member.

Ive searched this board for the answer to my question and Im sure it is here, but just cant find it. I want to know exactly how to word a thread title for a missing person. Do I put the double state abbrev myself? Is it Name, Age, City, Date in that order? TIA!

Click on your name at the top right area of the screen

Go to "statistics".

And then "Find all post by RubyBlu". That's one way.

(Another way is to click on your name on your post and you'll get a drop down menu with the same option)

Choose "User CP"

Go to "Edit Options"

I'm not sure what you mean? I can say that the most common time out is being rude to other posters. Bashing people for their opinions doesn't go very far on Websleuths, no matter what side of the fence you're on.

(BBM.) Sorry about that.

"TOS-borderline-violations" refers to actions/posts that don't quite go over the violation line, but are just negative enough to turn your hairs gray, like -- as you mentioned -- rude opinion-bashing.

I think veteran sleuthers are keenly aware of what's acceptable and what's not. I'm not a newbie but not a veteran either. I'm still learning the ropes, but I'm always curious about the posts that most often make MODs cringe.

OH! I guess borderline-name-calling would be the most common, in that case. Sometimes our passion gets the best of us and we start ranting. We've all done it, but it can be quite difficult for the moderators to decide on the best way to handle each different situation.

Hi fearless!

To start a new thread, you go to the index area of where you want to start the thread and look for the button on the left side that says "NEW THREAD". It's a bit down from the top of the page where new threads can be started.
