Fearless, the "New Thread" button is on the left side of the screen, directly across from where the page count for each forum or sub-forum shows up. (For example, if you look at the top of this page, opposite the page count for this thread, the button says "Post Reply." If you go back to the first page of the Forum Finesse forum, the button in that spot is the New Thread button.)

HTH! :seeya:

Trying not to bother anyone I looked for a long time but could not find this question or answer anywhere. Why is it that on some profiles there is no place for Visiter messages, about me, friends, contact info? Oonly statistics and I think mini statistics. Is this something members can chose in the beginning? I can't remember signing up--too long ago.

Yes, that is an option chosen by our members

Look at the first blue bar above where it says "User CP". In that area is where you'll find the spot to customize your profile. :)

On most forums I visit they tend to look down on double posting, or triple posting, what is the view on it here? I see some that will post up to 7 times in a row when much of it could be relayed in a single post. Just curious.

It is actually a violation and is called "spamming".

And posters can report spamming by using the red "alert" triangle at the upper right side of each post. Alerting is the best way to get mod eyes on a potentially problematic post as quickly as possible.

Sorry Daisy, I should have explained myself.
I wondered if the ads cause a slow down for some here. The ads don't slow me down....I'm not complaining..... my dh has some super fast thingy going on here on our home puter.

This is regarding Edit Options/Miscellaneous Options/Forums to Exclude from View: very happy the option exists, but, as new forums and sub-forums proliferate, they haven't been added to the "exclude from view" selections; say, for example, that one is a bit tired of the Lisa Erwin is Missing! threads which pop up on the New Posts timeline, and wishes to exclude them. As it hasn't been added to the options, it can't be done. Any way this excellent feature might be updated?

We're on it, and thanks for the tip, Woofie!

I'm new here, and can't start a new thread. Do I need to have a certain number of posts to do so?

Thanks so much. The forum is so big that I apologise if the answer is written elsewhere.

Yes, you need to be an established poster, which means the number of posts plus time as a member comes into play.

Are you wanting to start a thread about a missing person or person involved in a crime? Let me know if you need some help with that.

Hi kimster

How many posts do I need and how long do I need to be a member?

I wanted to start two threads, but they can wait. :) One was about my second cousin, but its an international case (Ireland), plus I can't see it ever being solved in my lifetime. So both threads can wait.

No worries!

This is my first post to WS, and I wanted to say hello. As a total newbie where is the appropriate place to introduce yourself? Do I need to post a few replies before I start a new post?

http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76289&highlight=freshman+mixer is where you can introduce yourself and meet other members.

You do need a certain number of posts to start a thread, but any mod. is happy to start one for you until you reach that post count (it's not that high).

To find the list of mods., click "View Forum Leaders" at the bottom of each page and you can send a private message to a mod.

Hope you enjoy yourself here!
