*~* Questions for our locals *~*

I am from the eastside so I guess the Skyline area seems like the boonies to me? My point was that culturally that area is very different from most areas in the city, so the perception of LE would be different there.

I wouldn't say it stands alone as different from other parts of Portland, but I do think the quadrants of the city ARE very different. And differences exist within those quadrants in some cases. I've lived in inner SE, outer SE, North, inner NW and far Southwest over the last 25 years and personally, I've seen a huge difference. You have to chase vagrants from your parked car in some areas, and you leave your back door open in others. There's a serious meth problem in some parts of town, and not in others. Schools are terrible and underfunded in some parts of town, fully funded with perks and extras by parents and donors in other parts.

Hi Haeve, It is very nice to know what you do and thanks from this Oregonian.

I bartended for about a year at 3rd and Couch. I was down in the basement and saw the room where they tied up those they lured or drugged to put on the ships when they hit port. My owner told me he had walked all through that tunnel that comes out right at waterfront park where the stone wall is. I never did that, no way LOL, and couldn't find the door where it opens up there either. But lots of people talked about it.

There is a big old bar on 2nd that was THE spot in THE day way back when the tunnels were active. I've heard their tunnels were very well built and still are there to this day. Bet you know what that bar was. LOLOLOL xox

Scandi, you gave me a smile. I don't know what you look like, but in my mind you look like Trixie Belden (13 years old with a tousled blonde mop of hair), and I imagine you holding a flashlight, peering down a dark tunnel!

Incidentally, Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations show had a feature about Portland a few years ago, and he showed the tunnels and discussed how the term Shanghai-ed came about.

PS If you don't actually look like Trixie Belden, don't tell me!

It's about 3 1/2 hours south of Portland...

And Florence (where the park is near) is the most accessible from the Eugene area, as far as the larger Oregon cities.

Question... Any locals know of any abandoned mines in the area, and how about inoperative water wells?

According to this government-issued abandoned well cleanup report, there are only 3, and these are all far from Portland:
http://www.westgov.org/wga/publicat/miningre.pdf

1. Virtue Mine — Baker County
Open shafts
2. Martha Mine — Douglas County
Open shafts
3. White King-Lucky Lass Mine — Lake County
Acid rock drainage and radionuclides.

I didn't have much luck on the wells. A lot of people have wells and septic systems in Oregon, even close to the cities.

I have a well within the city limits for irrigation only. But there aren't any open holes where someone could fall in? There is a big tank covering the area where the pump pulls up the water and all wells I've ever seen around here are the same way.

KPTV Fox 12, reported they interviewed people on Old Germantown Rd who got them and in another thread a local said their relatives on Old Germantown got one..
Of course there could be more areas, we just don't know unless someone who got one discloses it..=)

Just a question, do the people there in Oregon know more about this case than we know? I just get that feeling. Everyone seems so confident that their kids are safe going back to school, I may be overly protective, but since this is really not resolved, I would still be nervous. Seems to me that LE needs to at least make people feel safe before school starts again.

There are a lot of trucks for sure, especially because we live close to Mt Hood and there is a thriving outdoorsy type community. That said, I have never paid attention to make & model so unless was stuck behind it in traffic I wouldn't know :(

ETA now if you wanted to know about all the black SUVS that drive like maniacs I could help ;)

I don't see many of that make and model at all. I've been looking for them since it happened but only spy a few here and there.
