Why do you think they staged the scene in this way?
if they didn't want to be caught, many other scenarios would be much more believable than this one that just seems like a bad movie plot.
If it was an accidental or unintentional death followed by a hasty, poorly thought out cover-up plan, is this really the plan? What I mean is.....in the grand scheme of every panicky thought i can imagine a parent having in this scenario...are we thinking the conversation really went something like this?
Ramsey: let me think...how can we get away with this? I know, We'll dress her in underwear too big for her, put her in the wine cellar, make a garrotte, write a ransom note and then call the police and report her kidnapped. Then once the police are here for a few hours and don't find her, I'll go down to the cellar and "find" her just to get things moving. Then when the police ask about a broken window in the basement, I will tell them I broke it myself instead of claiming no knowledge and pointing more toward a possible intruder.
Why would they do that? It seems that it would have been a lot easier to avoid suspicion if this crime were staged in a different way. With a lot less effort involved. I guess my question is why go to all this effort. It doesn't seem very logical. They set everything in motion. They called to report the kidnapping. If some member of the Ramsey family caused her death, they had quite a bit of time and money to craft a favorable outcome for themselves. Did they have misgivings after the death and not want to dispose of her body? They knew the clock was ticking because of their trip the next morning, but that still doesn't really explain why a kidnapping for ransom was the cover story they would pick. It is so unbelievable. Of course it would be nationwide news. Why would you want all that attention on yourself if this is something you either deeply regret or are actively trying to cover up? If it was meant to frame the housekeeper or coworkers or whoever may have had access to the bonus check, why would someone want to frame them? Simply to take suspicion away from themselves? That seems like a stretch to me.
On the other hand, why if the kidnapper intended to demand a ransom would he then kill JonBenet and leave her body inside the house? If he was able to get himself inside the house am I kidding myself to think he would not have been able to get himself and JonBenet's body out of the house? Was that an attempt to frame the Ramseys? Who would want to frame the Ramseys for something like this and for what reason?
