Questions Welcome Here!

How do you start a new thread? What are the rules etc?

Each new thread requires a link to a main stream media article (MSM) or a report from law enforcement.

Remember to use the Search box to see if there is already a thread for the situation you've found.

You might click Report in your post, and ask a Moderator, too.

Thanks but sadly, there's not much on this case...which I find bizarre. I found one newspaper clipping about it, and theres one podcast on it...other than that zilch. And it's an unsolved murder of 4 people. Kinda weird...

Can you include a link of the newspaper article?

Sounds intriguing. 4 people dead, and family members/friends aren't calling for justice?

Hey sorry for the delayed reply. I got busy yesterday and totally forgot. Heres a scan of the article and a link.
I dont know if the family is still calling for justice, it's been 40 years and apparently this story was not covered much. There were also 2 unrelated missing persons cases in the same town.

Edit - The article is from 1991 but details the case happening a decade earlier.

Here’s a link, really the same info.

Yah I seen it, not much extra.

The podcast had a bit more like the sheriffs dept was woefully unprepared for such a case, and that they announced twice an arrest was imminent before the case went cold.

Does he have a son? I was starting to look up the victim and my results for flooded with someone with the same name 30 mins away who made the news recently.

Are you referring to the male victim? It said on that podcast he had children, but did not elaborate on the gender.

Start the thread, I say! We'll see what others can find.

Have a question about a case or loved one you have missing? Leave your questions here!
Saw this 5 minute vid of a retired Marine who found a very isolated lake in the western Colorado desert (Book Cliffs?) that has some unusual discarded women's shoes/boots (10 prs, different sizes). Says Sheriff wasn't interested, but does seem odd. Not sure where to put it. Ideas?

Today, two threads I was following were removed, it seems like. Both people were found and we were celebrating that, and suddenly the threads disappeared. What would be the reason for a thread being removed? Would it be family request? A glitch in the system? I am just curious, as I have not had that happen before.

When people are found safe, it's the WS practice to remove the thread. There is no reason for discussion about them to be on the web - they are safe and no crime was committed to further discuss. That is the standard here.

Good question - it can feel abrupt when you get attached to a case. :)

That is what I thought, and am grateful for the clarification. I love that all that discussion is removed. I wonder if we could have a ticker on the front page, with the number of "Found Safe, Case Closed" to date, to keep track of how many cases have been positively resolved. I can see that number being a real boost on hard days. Thanks again!

Curious to know if there’s a spreadsheet anywhere of NAMUS Unidentified vs NAMUS Missing Persons.
(I volunteer as tribute if not)

What do you mean exactly? Because both are available to the public on the NamUs website, and if you do an "Advanced Search," you can look up lists of both, for example, by age, height, hair color, date of last contact, city, etc. It does have to be done as two separate searches, though.

So for example, you could have one browser window open and search for missing women age 18 - 25 with red hair, and then you could open another browser window and search for Unidentified Females age 18 - 25 with red hair.

How does contacting a medical examiners office work?
Is it okay to just ask if they have any information on a doe case?

Thanks

Hi Websleuths community,

I’m hoping someone can guide me to the correct forum to post something that’s been bothering me for decades.

In the early 1990s, I was hitchhiking from Key West to Miami and was picked up by a man somewhere around the Middle Keys—maybe Islamorada or nearby. He told me he was a dolphin trainer and even had a photo of himself riding a dolphin, which I remember very clearly. At some point, he drove off the main road and took me into a wooded area, where he casually pulled a handgun out of the glove box while talking to me. After a tense moment, he said something like, “No, you’re OK,” put the gun back, and eventually took me back to the highway. He then took me to a strange little café before I made my excuses and left (though my memory is poor on this and we may have gone to the café before, not after, the incident.

I never reported it at the time, as I had quite a few concerning encounters hitchhiking there, but the whole thing about this particular incident always felt extremely off—as if he was deciding whether to harm me or not. I worry he may have got away with something terrible some time before or after my encounter with him. I recently reported it to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in case it might be relevant to any cold cases. Based on his behaviour, I believe his victims—if any—would likely have been male, possibly other hitchhikers or vulnerable individuals. I can remember quite well what he looked like and wore, and some details about the car we were in and the restaurant he took me to.

I’d like to see if anyone can help identify possible matches to this man or similar unsolved cases. Could anyone advise which Websleuths forum or subforum would be best for something like this?

Thank you in advance—I appreciate the work this community does.
