The lawyer met with someone at the mansion last week? Before these 2 incidents? or do I have that wrong? or was it last week after these incidents?
also, anyone know how long the brother has been staying there?

this is one of the weirdest stories ever.

I would really like to know when the lawyer was retained as well, before or after the two deaths or in between?

What a suspicious case. I do not think the son died by falling down the stairs, the injury seems too severe and the fact that the daughter disappeared and it was not widely reported that she was there, at first.

Also I have never known of a woman committing suicide in the nude.

I think the statement that her daughter was injured also, is very telling. My two theories are either that she saw something and they are shutting her up or it was her that got the lawyer due to an impending break up, she did something to the son because of impending break up and they have either put a hit on her (could be either mum or dad as they both have money) or the brother has done it.

One thing I am sure of, there is waaaayyyy more to this story.

This evening's local news, unsure which channel, showed documents and photos pertaining to the husband's domestic violence re wife #2. Apparently, he had his dog attack her on a few occasions. It was said that each of them accused the other of domestic violence, but no charges were pressed.

Terrible story, all the way around.

Documents Reveal Shacknais' Past Marital Troubles

According to the report, Dr. Dina Shacknai claimed her husband was the aggressor. The report stated that "Jonah elbowed her in the right breast and said '[expletive} off.'"

However, Jonah Shacknai gave a different account to police. In the report, he said, "Dina began screaming 'You cannot leave me.'" According to the report, "she jumped on the front of the car … tried to push her way into the car … slapping him around the face and shoulders.'"

Has anyone seen a statement by Jonah concerning the death of Rebecca?

I hope the media puts in a FOIA for the 911 calls.

Has anyone seen a statement by Jonah concerning the death of Rebecca?

Not a peep. It wouldn't surprise me if the lovebird parents......get back together. Unified front and perhaps certain things wouldn't have to be testified about if they are husband and wife again?

They are already using joint press statements.

I think that's an appropriate statement. They are mourning the loss of their son (I assume to Dina she isn't giving much thought to Rebecca since Max's death is the worst thing she will EVER suffer in her life), and she is being bashed and humiliated in the press. I mean it's bad enough to suffer the loss of a child without all of the media frenzy ya know.

Nope, not one. But often people don't make public statements - he doesn't owe us anything really.

Local LE is investigating the son's death but only because of the subsequent death at the home. I don't think there's enough info out to determine if there's foul play involved.

I understand the brother from out of state was here in California because of his nephew's accident. That's what news reports are starting to say. As for the daughter, this is the first I've seen the media saying she was here also. What sorrow this family must be feeling now.

I'll be interested in seeing what develps over the next few days. Prayers for the family.

I read about this a few days ago in the UK press and it's really been bothering me ever since. I can imagine somebody committing suicide if racked with guilt or grief, but why make it look like murder? why bind you feet with cord but not tie them? Why cause more pain to everyone involved? Doesn't make any sense.

Thinking it through the only thing i can think of is this: Rebecca was in bed (would explain the naked aspect ), taken from the bed and hands bound, placed on a chair and ankles tied to each leg. The person or persons then could have used the rope she was found hanging from as a ligature or garotte to strangle her before throwing her of the balcony to make it look like suicide. Why the ankle ties where left? Not sure.

Very strange and very sad, that poor little boy, what a tragedy.

New from the Coronado Patch:

http://coronado.patch.com/articles/autopsy-to-be-conducted-on-jonah-shacknais-son

...snip > Lea Corbin, a police spokeswoman, and is standard procedure in such cases.

Corbin also offered more details of the 911 call that led authorities to the house at 10:10 a.m. July 11.

A 13-year-old girl called for help following the boy's fall. The teen, Rebecca Zahau and Max Shacknai were the only ones in the residence at the time. Corbin said the girl was Zahau's sister.

Police Chief Louis Scanlon said last week that the boy fell down a staircase in the mansion and was found without a pulse and not breathing. He was being treated at Rady Children's Hospital.

And this:

http://coronado.patch.com/articles/memorial-grows-in-front-of-shacknai-mansion-in-coronado

Police said Monday that Zahau and her 13-year-old sister were home at the time of the fall and the teen summoned authorities to help the boy.

BBM

Wonder why Rebecca told the dog guy it was her daughter…Just distraught, I guess..

all imo

I live in San Diego & want to join your conversation. I've been a passive member (was hooked on the McStay Missing Family Case), so this is my first reply.

I'm a regular on signonsandiego comment board, "obmama" there too. Trouble is, everyone is there for different reasons. Some just want to post funny one-liners, or inflammatory comments about those tied to the story, or other posters.

I want to research & exchange theories, like you guys do, without getting bashed for being insensitive or flagged for inappropriate content. I gave an example on how to hang yourself with arms & legs bound, & got slammed for putting it out there because I might be giving suicidal people ideas!!!

I've been to media sites from san diego to memphis, & know this story inside out. Retired, with lots of time on my hands:) And an excellent memory for details.

Not sure about space limits (???), so this is my introduction & I'll jump right in with a new reply. Looks like you limit your messages to one topic at a time, so I'll do the same. Bear with me while I get comfortable, & feel free to give me posting pointers.

Maybe Jonha blamed Rebecca for his son's accident. He may have told her the relationship was over. It was clear that the boy was probably not going to live since he was not breathing and had no pulse at the home. Rebecca was boarding the dog, why? She said she was going to the hospital but didn't. There are a few questions there.

If she jumped from the balcony she would need to have her legs untied. It sounds like they were, a tie on each leg but not bound together.
