Another question on the cell phone records. What are the data transfers that appear on her phone after her death?

Begin: 7/13 - 10:49PM

End: 7/27 - 4:46PM

Total: 17 Transfers varying from 1KB up to 2,612KB

I suppose these would have to do with her siblings (sister and brother) having phones connected to a family plan?

Just curious and have no cell phone so no idea what this means.

It could be sending pics to facebook account.... and WHO was calling her from a blocked number.. did LE even bother to find out..... what if it was someone who was preying on her and encouraging her to hurt herself... I mean it is a stretch... but I don't think they even know... I don't think LE even bothered to get her phone records. They just looked in the phone and saw what was logged on the phone and that was it.

Did they ask JS if he knew how to get into her voicemail?

I was thinking about this question while going over my phone bill a little while ago. I was curious, so did a little research. There are a couple of possibilities. First of all, it could be an auto sync program, or direct push, that synchronizes e-mail and contacts between devices through an exchange server. Another possibility that I wasn't aware of. There are delays in reporting data usage. This is from my AT&T bill.

Important: There are delays in reporting and processing call or data records. It may take up to two to five days for usage on the AT&T wireless network to show up in any Voice & Data Usage category. Additional delays may occur due to technical difficulties. Further delays may apply to roaming usage, which is based on call records received from other carriers. A delay of a minimum of two to ten days for roaming usage is usual and up to 60 days or longer is possible. During the time your invoice is being processed, you may not be able to view your usage or you may experience additional delays in reporting of usage. Minutes used in excess of those available will either be deducted from available Rollover or from another category of usage for which that call is eligible. Minutes "Used" may reflect airtime for unanswered voice mails, administrative calls, and other calls for which you are not billed. Data usage information (including text messages, picture messages & Internet usage) may also be delayed based on the same reasons mentioned above. I don't know if that's the answer, but it's a possibility.

ETA: Forgot to mention, on my August bill, for instance, I have dt's occuring at the same time on different days. 07/31-08/01 11:16 pm; 08/08-08/11 11:35 pm; 08/13-08/15 11:36 pm; 08/18-08/21 11:54 pm. Same times, different days and different sizes. There are also other dt's on those dates at various times of the day. Interesting.

I learn so much through WS. Never in a million years would I have noticed that if it wasn't for this case. LOL

According to an 10/01/2011 report at http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/2011/10/02/5821529.htm, the SDSD stated that the new technology to retrieve voicemails did not work, and they couldn't distinguish whether the screams heard by witnesses were coming from Shacknai mansion or teenagers on beach so the screams are "irrelevant." Also Zahau's attorney said she expects to get the police files soon.

afaik, the SDSO has given only one reason the case would be re-opened and that was if new evidence was received. Which is their polite way of saying never, imo. I think LE believes they got it right the first time and I support LE.

I would be very interested in seeing the activity on the phones under Rebecca's name, since her death and who is contacting Rebecca's brother or sister. I wonder if any of the Shacknai's have been in contact with Rebecca's sister in particular.

Extended Probe Does Not Uncover New Information, Investigators Say

According to San Diego Sheriff's Department Homicide Lt. Larry Nesbitt, investigators did not learn anything new in their second analysis of [RZ]'s phone. Newsbitt said the probe didn't produce any new information "we didn't already have."

Nesbitt said investigators finished their reports and will eventually give the phone back to the [Z] family very soon.

The family has claimed some pieces of evidence in the investigation are unaccounted for.

On Sept. 2, the San Diego County Medical Examiner and the Sheriff's department ruled Zahau's death a suicide, meaning the criminal investigation was officially closed.

As a result, the case file – including police reports and witness statements collected by investigators – will be turned over to the Zahau family in accordance with California Government Code and victims rights laws, Lt. Nesbit said.

Bremner said she is conducting her own review of California law to determine whether the case records can be released to the media after they are obtained by the family.

In repeated emails and phone messages, News 8 attempted unsuccessfully to obtain clarification of Dr. Peterson's opinions and statements while Max Shacknai was under his care at Rady Children's Hospital.

Specifically, News 8 emailed two questions to Dr. Peterson:

1) Do you agree with the medical examiner's cause of death for Max Shacknai?

2) During the first two days of Max Shacknai's stay in the hospital (Monday and Tuesday) did you express an opinion to any Shacknai family member that Max's critical injuries may have occurred before he fell down the stairs?

Dr. Peterson forwarded News 8's questions to Rady Children's Hospital attorney Angela Vieira and the hospital's public information officer, Benjamin Metcalf.

Metcalf issued the following written response to News 8 on Oct. 5:

We appreciate your interest, however, I have spoken with both Dr. Peterson and the attorney for Rady Children's and neither wish to make any comment regarding this case.

News 8 has confirmed a nearby neighbor, who does not want to be identified, heard a "scream for help" while sitting next to an open window around 11:30 p.m. on July 12. The witness initially reported that the scream came from the direction of the mansion.

The witness's spouse told News 8 that the scream was reported in the early days of the investigation to a detective who had handed out business cards to neighbors; but no follow-up interview was taken.

Sheriff's Lt. Nesbit said the witness's statement has now been obtained.
