Speaking of Oaksterdam, if anyone's interested in learning more about cannabis and its medicinal values, you should check out the short series "Weed Wars" on Netflix instant streaming. It takes you inside Harborside Health Center, an MMJ dispensary in California run by Steve Deangelo. He is a legalization of cannabis activist who speaks very highly of Oaksterdam as well as anything else pro-marijuana. The show itself is really wonderful for its accurate portrayal of medicinal cannabis without being a "typical stoner show" in the slightest. The episodes aren't too lengthy, either, and they are very informative for anyone looking to gain knowledge of the cannabis industry.

I live in Texas and one of my friends drove to CO to buy some as soon as it became legal. Funny, she just sent me an email and said she had tried it and now she has a raw throat and a cough. She says, "now what'. Any advise for her. I smoke cigarettes and not pot, so I don't know what to tell her.

tia

Any idea what your friend smoked the cannabis from? It may have been a harsh pipe or glass piece that caused her raw throat and cough. It's all up to personal preference, of course, but for those that choose to smoke via a glass pipe of sorts usually have to be very picky with what kind of glass pipe they use- otherwise, the hot smoke will irritate their throat and chest. Certain glass pieces are specially designed to cut down on the irritation caused by hot smoke using extra chambers with built in percolators for smoke filtration through water. If your friend was using a glass piece, I'd recommend she looks into using something with more filtration for her own personal comfort the next time she comes to Colorado. :)

If she wasn't using glass, and smoked it via a hand rolled "cigarette" (joint, if you will) then this may be also the cause of her sore throat- lots of hot smoke at once with very little filter.

Any other way to take in THC (such as edibles or vaporizing) shouldn't result in a sore throat or a cough. Another possibility is that your friend may have been smoking in a group and sharing a piece with someone who was already sick- germs are (unfortunately) everywhere, after all!

Regardless, I'd recommend tea with honey and lemon to soothe her throat. Hope that helps your friend! :seeya:

US marijuana sales might top $2.3 billion this year. I'm not saying I support it. I'm just saying it's now available in the Ellen Shop.

Along with legalizing cannibus comes the legal use of hemp. This site, one of many, shows some of the uses of hemp, which is biodegradable and highly, quickly renewable. http://www.hemphasis.net/useschart.htm

Did anyone catch Ann Coulter on Piers Morgan tonight? Her utter stupidity and the blatant lies that she told are hard to believe. On top of that (separate issue), she called people who suffer from mental health issues "nuts" (among other things). Where does she come from? She sounded "nuts" herself...or she was high on something (and it certainly wasn't pot!).

Meanwhile, here in Louisiana, a 3rd offense for marijuana possession gets you a 20 years stint in jail. But we have a booming "for profit prison" industry to support so ya have to keep those beds filled somehow since so many crooked politicians, their family and friends are in the industry of incarceration. Nice, huh?

Part of the deal with the private "for profit" prison industry is that the state promised the people who own and run the prisons that they guaranteed them an occupancy rate of about 95 percent. Most states are looking to lower the prisoner rate, our state is hellbent on producing them.

Is it any wonder that Louisiana leads the USA in prison population, having twice as many prisoners as any other state?

I despise her. She gets high on herself.

I'd better not move to Louisiana...I'd be doing 20 years before I knew it! ;-)

Seems like it's time to vote the idiots out of office.

I am on the fence about the legalization of marijuana. I know it does help people with pain. But I also know my brother smoked his first joint at 14. He didn't get addicted to marijuana but he did get addicted to the high. He died at the age of 34 of a drug overdose. He of course, broke the law to smoke it to begin with but I wonder how many other addictive personalities will give it a try once it is legal everywhere.

I'm so sorry about your brother. I have a few friends who also died from overdoses, including my cousin. We were very close. She was clean for a year, then relapsed one day. That's all it took.

But I don't think marijuana is addictive and I don't believe it is a gateway drug. I do, however, think that since it is criminalized, it puts people in situations where they may be exposed to other illegal drugs. I speak from experience. If a person could legally buy it in a store, then perhaps people would not be put in those situations.

Hopefully soon the lawmakers will follow the money so incredibly poor states (like my beautiful state of West Virginia), will finally be able to turn things around.

Colorado airs 'Drive High, Get a DUI' marijuana ads

Colorado, the first state with legal recreational marijuana, is rolling out public service announcements warning marijuana users about stoned driving.

The state Department of Transportation is airing three television ads as part of its "Drive High, Get a DUI" campaign.

In Colorado, the state presumes impairment with a 5 nanogram THC-blood level, but the driver can rebut the charge that they were impaired, and a jury can still find them not guilty despite the test result, Tvert said.

In contrast, in Washington, a THC-blood level of 5 nanograms or more automatically means you are driving impaired under the law, Tvert said.

Legalized marijuana sends more kids to the hospital in Colorado

More children are ending up in the emergency room or needing other treatment for marijuana exposure in Colorado since the state legalized pot for recreational use, a new study finds.

Marijuana exposures in young children have resulted in respiratory compromise requiring the use of a ventilator and intensive care unit admission in a handful of cases.

Toddlers were the age group most at risk. In many cases, they got their hands on marijuana edibles like candy, cookies or brownies laced with the drug.
