phoning a lawyer BEFORE the police would be very very bad... but as you say, it's speculation.

Boy oh boy. YES, phoning an attorney if there is a dead body in your basement EVEN YOUR DAUGHTER's is highly advisable. Why on earth wouldn't you??!?!??!!??!?!?!? That is the FIRST person you call. Not the police, not your mom, not your neighbor, not her preschool to say she won't be there. AN ATTORNEY, that's who. She's already dead. DEAD and you WILL BE BLAMED. So yes, calling an attorney is not only your right, but HIGHLY ADVISABLE.
