Remains found confirmed as Jacob Wetterling/Suspect led LE to Remains #2

According to his confession, he applied the handcuffs as he was putting Jacob in his car. Heinrich said he went into the driveway and turned around, facing back toward 91st Ave. I took that to mean that he drove all the way up the driveway. However, I have it from a very reliable source that Sanner is saying that Heinrich did not drive all the way up the driveway. That's a little puzzling because it means he either backed up the driveway, or he turned around somewhere in the middle. Either scenario will likely be further damning as to how Stearns shifted away from Heinrich to Rassier. The more that comes out, the worse it looks for Stearns, IMO.

That is how I interpretated as well. So throw in DR saying he saw a small blue car with a face covering person. Too confusing.

That merits discussion in detail as it's a can of worms.

Add to that Kevin and his girlfriend driving over Heinrich's tracks shortly after the abduction.

Correct. So in a nutshell, you have the existing tire tracks in the driveway from family vehicles, then Heinrich's prints on top of that...in both directions, then over that you have both Kevin's tracks and the tracks from when Dan left in the morning. It takes being on site or really good photographs to figure it all out.

It's a mess for sure.....and yet.....they pinpointed Heinrich very early on.............

There had to be something which stood out in order for LE to single out Heinrich in 1989. Kevin's foolish drive through the abduction site and farmyard....looms large. But even so, LE investigated Heinrich's vehicle's tires.....that says something. Whatever the case may be......Heinrich's, DR's, Sanner's testimonies regarding vehicles are ALL in contradiction to each other-they can't all be correct.

No they can't. I am about 95% sure the FBI had Heinrich properly pegged in 89 with compelling evidence. Tire prints and foot prints are admissible evidence and have been used in countless cases to place individuals and vehicles at crime scenes. The FBI has an entire department devoted to this particular branch of forensic science.

My WAG is that SCSD maintained jurisdiction in the case, using the FBI and other state agencies as "resources" only. With few exceptions, the FBI cannot seize jurisdiction, even if they think the lead agency is mishandling the case.

If you have a lot of spare time, you could list the statements from different sources in one post so we could pick them apart from what we now know and decide which is the most plausible.

They followed him. Interrogated him, took his tires and shoes. Searched his place, there was no Jacob. The tire and footprint evidence wasn't good enough, even though DR also added a small blue vehicle with a child covering his face. The story was there but Jacob was not. Until DNA could confirm Jareds attacker and force him to give up a confession. This was never going to be easy.

That is partially true. Had the FBI been able to take control of the print analysis and brought in a subject matter expert like Tom Brown Jr (who was at the time and still is a nationally known print expert and a consultant to the FBI on the Green River Killer case) to do a full analysis of the print field, they would have had enough to name Heinrich as a POI and most likely been able to pull him in and subject him to some intense questioning.

Even if DH serves his full sentence he'll only be 73 when he gets out. This is really scary! A 73 year old man is still plenty strong and able. My fathers brothers and one of my husband's brothers are in that age range and still hunt, jog, hike, scuba dive and have very active lives.

That's valid. I honestly believe what is said about prison being extremely rough for known pedophiles. The stress of that alone can be very detrimental to health. Jmo

I think he is going to some kind of special prison for child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 guys in Colorado?

Tracker Steve Mund already did that and never changed his mind about how Jacob was taken. They did question him multiple times about Jacob, he would never give up the information knowing he still has freedom. It took life in prison against him, and then he used what he did to Jacob to get out of it. This was messy and this was hard.

Steve Mund and Tom Brown Jr. are not in the least way comparable to each other. That's kinda funny actually...lol

By the way, person of interest, I think we have seen this tactic doesn't work anymore. You either have him/her or you don't. The damage caused either way obviously isn't worth it. They should not be revealed to the public. It's like telling the enemy we are going to attack them here and at this time, in which creates a failed attack.

We're losing out on getting other stuff done," Becthold said of result of the hours spent on the Wetterling case file.

Oh well Jacob lost his life, and the monster that did it is now put away. Whatever the cost, it's worth it.

I agree! Thankful that 🤬🤬🤬 is locked up forever. Such a sad ending.

Sterns County should have asked WSer's for volunteers to help transcribe. I know that's not a possibility. If it was, my guess is there wouldn't be enough work to go around.

That's a very cold statement on the part of Bechtold. I could say more....but I won't.
