How ironic and lucky that the killer chose a disposal method that would preserve a body and evidence.

What really, really bothers me is that they had the clues to find the body all along. They had the cell phone pings, and SA admitted he visited his mother's house. The Texas Rangers even searched her house, didn't they, and took the computers that SA used for his collection.

Finding the body in that area proves that Hailey never left that house on her own that day, which is why no one saw her (and all those well-meaning sightings in town were just wrong or had the days mixed up, which police figured out anyway).

But just like Caylee and Gail Palmgren and others, she was right there almost in plain sight all along.

I'm really surprised they haven't contacted Hailey's family. Did the family have to get this information through the media?? I think regardless of what their relationship is, I think it professional and courteous to advise the family whether they think it is Hailey or not. This could be their daughter.

It sounds like he means nobody contacted Billie to tell her that the remains could be Hailey's and she doesn't have the experience to investigate whether or not this could be her daughter. In other words, he's pointing fingers at LE to put up or shut up. :twocents:

Yes. I just watched a episode on ID the other night and the perp had spread lime on the body in hopes of faster deteroration and to cover the smell, but it helped to preserve it instead. I would think with all the dry arid air plus the limestone....she would certainly be mummified. That area is just about like AZ, imo. It seems to be hotter there more so than in NM.

They've done lots of episodes on CSI about mummification of bodies out the Nevada desert. Also, it's like the Nazca mummies down in Chile, or the mummies in Tibet and China. They don't have to do anything to the bodies because the dry sandy climate preserves them.

BBM I've been wondering the same since I first read that tidbit of information last night... Apparently dry heat and no humidity is the answer or at least thats what I am now thinking.. JMHO

I also think high % of salt or other desiccating (drying out) minerals. Certain areas with mineral deposits might cause these? jmo

"We have no idea who it is," Everett said during the six-minute briefing. Asked point-blank if the remains were of missing Colorado City teenager Hailey Dunn, Everett said law enforcement "could not speculate" on identification.
