"Opening to the public today (April 10)
and running until October 18,
the exhibition brings together more than 300 pieces from the late monarch's wardrobe
- over half on display for the very first time
- and marks the centenary of her birth.

Created by British couturier Norman Hartnell for her 1947 wedding to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,
the gown carried deep symbolic meaning for a nation emerging from war.

Among the highlights are charming pieces from Queen Elizabeth's early years,
including floral dresses, tiny ballet shoes and even a fairy costume."

The Queen Elizabeth II Aquamarine Tiara and Burmese Ruby Tiara
- both commissioned by the Queen and reflective of her own taste -
are also on display,
with the latter being shown for the very first time."

I saw the name of designer Norman Hartnell on several dresses and I got curious.

The late Queen's 100th birthday
will be marked by a dozen new Royal Mail stamps
- with each featuring its own iconic milestone moment.

The Royal Mail has said
it hopes to 'pay tribute' to the monarch
- whose commitment to duty was 'unparalleled in history'."

"She had a fortune of millions, a palace and castles,
as well as the biggest private art collection in the world.

There were, however,
a handful of things that Queen Elizabeth II never possessed.
And one of them was a passport."

I hope this is okay to post - got it from my FB - and I added a link to the British Embassy in Riga.

Today, we also look back at the historic two-day state visit to Latvia by Queen Elizabeth II in October 2006, which formed part of her first tour of the Baltic States and marked an important moment in UK–Latvian relations.
Accompanied by Prince Philip, the Queen met with President Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga in Riga to strengthen diplomatic ties, and acknowledge the long-standing historical links between the two countries. The visit included the unveiling of a bronze sculpture of former Riga mayor George Armitstead, whose family had British roots, as well as cultural engagements such as a visit to the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia and a reception at the Small Guild (Mazā ģilde). Prince Philip separately visited St. Saviour’s Anglican Church to honor British soldiers who died in the 1919 battles for Latvian independence, while the Queen, in her speech, praised Latvia’s remarkable post-independence progress and its successful integration into the European Union and NATO.

I have actually met our former President. At her daughter-in-laws birthday party when I first got here! She did NOT want to talk about.... who just got elected in the U.S. - this happened in Nov. of 2016. :D This is way before I chopped off my hair!
