I hope nobody books these fools on any shows. They lack maturity. Who wants to hear stupid immature people talk about themselves and their foolishness? They should face charges. They need to learn from this big mistake they made, for their childrens' sakes.

The rescue involved three state and federal agencies and had California Air National Guardsmen parachuting from helicopters into open waters to escort the Kaufmans into inflatable boats before their sailboat was sunk on purpose.

James Gardner, 56, a fisherman from Oceanside, Calif., who said he had spent 45 years on the sea and now owns a bait shop near the docks, called the decision to take such young children on such a journey “ridiculous.”

“Teenagers, maybe, but kids of those ages — I think it was asinine,” Mr. Gardner said in an interview. “He put his family at risk. Any Joe can take a Coast Guard course and you are a captain — it is just above a cereal box certification.”

This whole story reminds me of that little girl who wanted to fly the plane at 7 years old, Jessica Dubroff. I don't understand parents who just give in their kids whims and try to pretend that the kids were getting something out of it as well. It's this strange need to be "special" or "different" and not like the "ordinary" people out there. These parents have no shame or conscious whatsoever. They are narcissitically driven by some self indulgent irrational idea that being "normal" for any period is unacceptable.

Parents owe their kids stability and safety. That's the bare minimum. And if the mother was wracked with sea sickness, what were the kids going through? Most parents even feel guilty about taking little kids on planes because of the pressure and stress on their ears. I just don't "get" this kind of parenting.

Thanks wasn't enough. Very well said!

"Listen-we've got room for either the wheel or your inflated ego, but not both."

Sounds like the sailors put a lot more thought and effort into making the babies happy and comfortable than their parents ever did. They (the sailors) were concerned about what to feed a baby- were going to puree carrots. And what were the babies eating on board? Apparently one of their meals was a big bowl of guacamole- just what a toddler dreams about, oops, no, a toddler dreams about cake. One of the sadder things in the blog was that they were playing a word association game, and no matter what the parents said, Cora said ice cream or cookies...

And mother writes how she made a cake then lied to the kid that all cake was gone so she and her husband can finish the cake later.
The kid is supposed to understand that when she becomes a parent.
What is she supposed to understand?

The question of reimbursement for a rescue operation often arises for those seen as putting themselves at risk, said Steve Ellis, a former Coast Guard officer and vice president of the Washington-based nonprofit Taxpayers for Common Sense.

"You do recognize there is a potential risk of loss of life if you do require repayment, but then you look at some of these cases and think, 'Gee, what an idiot. They should be paying,'" Ellis said. "I mean in my mind, who takes a 1-year-old sailing? You can't even explain to the kid how to avoid being seasick."
