Retrial for Sentencing of Jodi Arias - 11/26 -12/02/14 In recess

I think that was in November of 2013. In any case, that's not what this ruling or the appeal was about so it stands to reason it was a typo. The day JSS closed the courtroom was October 30, 2014.

ETA: Nurmi also had that wrong, which Bodney corrected. Her ruling last year had to do with cameras, not secret testimony.

She must have known they would appeal. But if she were setting up the appeal, she would have stated openly that it was JA testifying.



It looks like the whole order to me. Sometimes they issue a "short and sweet" order followed by a longer opinion, but in those cases they say "opinion to follow."

Maybe they didn't need to give their arguments because everyone with a law degree already knows that if it was JA testifying there would be no possible argument to justify it. Who would they need to convince? :gaah:

Delay, delay, delay. If Nurmi had had his way, there wouldn't have been any further testimony until the COA decided. And how long ago was that testimony??!! Sheesh...let's be done with her.

I wonder if we will ever know what arguments were made to sway Judge Stephens and the COA.

AND granted a documentary request a couple of weeks before re-trial?
That JODI is now suddenly afraid of the limelight and feels threatened? Come on JSS!

Could she have known that this would prompt the media to go to the COA?

I'll bet JSS let JA testify in secret on purpose knowing that JA would get face-slimed by the COA. Yippee! We've gone up Slime Lane!

AZL - Erickson mentioned a legal delay for transcripts. Do you expect them to be released in whole, or could there be some wrangling/retracting? For example, if JA was asked 100 questions could the DT say "we would not have asked these 10 questions, so can they be struck from the record and the jury advised to disregard them?"

I don't see how they could do that since they demanded that the entire testimony be secret (and also because Juan would object if that closed a door that would be open to him on cross if they 'unrang the bell'), but with all the twists and turns and weird rulings here I'm wondering what kinds of scenarios might be possible in your mind vs just a dump of the transcript. Or were court cameras running but not released?

After the first COA smackdown, it seemed that JSS was pretty curt with KN the next morning. Do you think this final smackdown would allow her to finally grow a set and quit putting up with his nonsense? I think I'll faint if I ever see a tweet saying she refused one of his endless sidebar requests.

I am going to say this here, it is only an opinion of mine, so take it for what it is worth. Let me also say, that I come from a suspicious place because of circumstances in my own family of origin. I have wanted to write this for many days but just couldn't bring myself to. WS has always been a very safe place for me... so here goes.

While we were on break, due to the secret witness I went back and watched some original trial testimony. I skipped around quite a bit. I ended up watching Jodi's allocution. I first believed that Alyce was the secret witness but also had a niggling that it was actually Jodi... that niggling intensified after realizing a professional wouldn't need to hide, from everything AZL was saying. She also said that it wouldn't be the defendant either but I couldn't shake my suspicions.

Anyway, while I was watching the allocution a part of it really stuck out to me, the spot where Jodi seemed to get the most emotional was when talking about her baby sister Angela being born (Jodi was 11- I think) and the doctor asking HER if she wanted to hold the baby first. Something about the entire exchange stood out... much more than any other part- I went back and re-watched it again.

What if Angela is actually Jodi's and no one else (except Jodi, her parents, aunts, uncles etc know this but not Angela.

I will say again, that I have a situation like this in my own family, so I am probably way off base and wrong due to my own experiences... but what if it is something like this, or similar to this?

Please don't throw tomatoes... any thoughts fellow WSers?

I don't think it's her daughter. That would mean she was abused as a child and she would have loved to bring that up to appear more of a damaged victim.

Oh hellz yeah. This is the backdrop against which Nurmi wanted the other witnesses to testify. Thus the importance of the order of witnesses.

A nicely laid out theory, Tuba. But IIRC, Fonseca testified that she interviewed the murderer twice, once in May as well as once in August.

Do you think there is another ​psychologist who interviewed Arias? Because "psychologist" was on the list she was ordered in August 2014 to turn over to the State. I think it is one and the same.

Well, it's quite a thought to ponder that Angela may have been JA's baby. Regarding the age thing, from what I've seen, JA tended to look young in photos taken as a teenager. Heck, she had the braids thing going 'til 30, and her come-on MO was to look like a little girl. So, if we're looking at a photo of JA with a baby, JA might be older than she looks, and the baby might not even be Angela? I'll bet JA was a precocious teenager; by this I do not mean in the brains department.

I think she already has to be fair - or at least tried to. Humiliating, denigrating sex with Travis fits very well within the frame of an abusive relationship.

I can't be too mad at JSS (I sure as hell won't be defending her anymore, that's for sure) because I'm just so damn glad it's just Jodi's silly self on the stand. And I'm sitting here, just imagining cross examination. I hope that Juan can replay some of her lying lying liar moments on the stand for this jury. :loveyou:

This is going to be interesting. Jodi really gambled on this one and lost big. I think with the entire new strategy of the defense in the mitigation phase she wanted her testimony "secret" because she has changed her story AGAIN and did not want public scrutiny. Anyone following this case will tear a NEW version of her relationship with Travis apart.

She also has, IMO, put herself in a very precarious situation. I am sure the previous jury foreman, in his consultations with the defense, let them know that when Juan was questioning her, her behavior on the stand hurt her. She cannot act defiant and rebellious with Juan and play word salad games for hours without giving the jury a glimpse of who she really is. And yet, I don't believe she will be able to help herself.

Speaking of public scrutiny, I wonder how this all fits in with Nurmi's argument about his fear of scrutiny:
