Allocution, take 2:
(Big smile, "motivational speaker" voice) OK, guys, you've been totally punked. You got me fair and square. First degree murder, premeditated and especially cruel. Not bad for a first timer... or am I? I really don't know. Only God knows for sure, and we can't subpoena him. (Ambiguous smirk) Anyhoo, I've just been yanking your collective chains this whole time (wink to Martinez and Flores, double thumbs-up to the Alexanders), but I think we can all agree that you have dragged this out for too long. The spark and spontaneity are pretty much gone (stage yawn). All we have left are a few brief texts, and some photographs, and that phone sex tape that I totally knew would come in handy one day. Or at least you have these things, these small tokens with which to remember our time together, but that's all they are: tokens. I am left with only my bittersweet memories and the knowledge that my trial cost Arizona taxpayers over two million dollars, and caused a lotta people a whole lotta pain! But as for us, for now, we've lost that lovin' feeling. Let's all just call 'er a day and go back to our real lives. For however long they might last (nudge nudge).

Special shout-outs before I go: First, to my good buddy Juan "The Prosecuter" Martinez. Don't go away mad, bro, just go away! (Fake-brushes back hair, flips bird.)

And to my besties Sidebar Jenny and "Captain" Kirk, no hard feelings. You can't win 'em all. (Well, you two sure can't, but I can! And I can sing and do handstands, at the same time!) Kirkster, dude, got any more motions to withdraw you're planning to run by the judge? Jeeze Louise. We all know you're not the kind of guy who ever withdraws early from anything. Any. Thing. Ever. And dude, sorry to break it to ya, but "conversate" is not a word (eye roll). I can mangle the language and no one cares. I have a jailhouse GED. But you, man, you should know better. You've been to law school. Right? No seriously, you actually have been to law school? Nine days out ten it's hard to tell.

For all you haters out there, well, my sincere hope for you is that you can move on and, like me, find a way to be of service in your communities, rather than focussing all your misguided energy on Travis and his flaws. Personally, I have nothing but forgiveness in my heart. (Another hair/bird)

Anyway, it's been super fun hanging with all y'all and I hope everyone has a totally awesome summer! Oops, I mean "rest of your lives." And maybe "hanging" isn't the best word. But hey, I'm totally philosophist, so life... death... whatever. It's all good. And you know me (at least you should by now!), whatever my sentence is, I'll say that's what I was hoping for. Winning! Keep that money coming in and stay tuned for my upcoming spin-off drama: Appeals Process. Starring... ME! As ME! It's going to rock! Love you guys! Peace out.

(Important: look sad now and speak softly.) Members of the jury -- the task ahead of you will be extraordinarily difficult, especially so for the men among you, in more-or-less their mid-60's, who see in me their own innocent daughters, whom they would neither hurt nor allow to be hurt by others. I, and God, and the State of Arizona, and actually the entire world, are depending on you to Choose The Right, even though court regulations or something prevent my mother from giving you the CTR rings and Domestic Violence Awareness ribbons purchased by my many supporters and close, personal friends. Because none of you were able to get out of jury duty, you now have the opportunity, and some would say obligation, to make a just and fair decision regarding my sentence for the unfortunate events which some have gone so far as to refer to as a quote-unquote crime (air quotes). I know that you have been inundated with a great deal of confusing information, most of it presented by a very loud man, but neither the volume of evidence against me nor the volume of the Prosecutor (see what I did there?) makes these heinous accusations quote-unquote true (air quotes). No, it was the verdict of the previous jury that makes the accusations against me quote-unquote true (air quotes). I accept that I am standing shackled before you today entirely because of the previous jury's lack of discernment, intelligence, and empathy. Frankly you look a lot smarter than that bunch.

In a certain sense, you now have my life in your hands. I can't even imagine how that feels, to have in one's hands the life or death of another human being. I am begging you for mercy, for the sake of my family, who are sitting right over there (points), in case you hadn't noticed my grandmother's wheelchair and IV, or hadn't heard the heartbroken giggles of my mother and aunt. I have faith that you will not let them down. I have faith that you will not let me down. I will leave you with this one undeniable fact, which I hope you will consider during your deliberations: Death row is not one of the places listed in "1000 Places To See Before You Die."

to all four sides of the courtroom, locate cameras -- flash mugshot grin, blow kisses to the Alexanders, slow-clap for Martinez and Flores, heart-thump with fist to defense table, sarcastic curtsy to judge, yelp and fall to the floor, writhing in pain and wetting herself because the deputies zap her just for the hell of it and they figure this might be their last chance. Clamorous applause and cheering, high fives all around, a confused Jodi slowly regains consciousness and wonders what all the fuss is about, assumes it's about her, stands up, bows unsteadily or possibly demonstrates the "linebacker pose" again, gets zapped again either because her "linebacker pose" is so intimidating and people in court were afraid for their lives, or possibly because the deputies couldn't resist giving her one more for the road.

And... curtain

Whatever she says will be appallingly offensive, self-serving, and faux-humble. And except for those couple of weeks when she was totally busy with her budding law practice, she's had nothing but time on her hands. Well, time and blood. Mostly blood, but time also. I bet she'll astound us all with a brand new, "just like junior high" multi-media presentation -- one that features her in a more prominent roll. And can she have a few easels? Her art looks best on easels. And she'll need handouts for the jury, with poetry and stuff, and more art. That's allowed, right? Maybe her mom can do a quick run to Kinkos.

Gagging in antici... pation.

I cant tell you how much I enjoyed this. This was incredibly funny. You are a talented comic!!!! Brilliant!!

YES thank you. It was the one with the green tint. I was looking thru Google images for it and gave up, thinking my phone was too small to see it clearly, but I can see that clear as day.
I find that image more haunting than the last photo of Travis taken, for some reason. More haunting than the reflection in his eye.
Thanks again geevee

On a completely randomly different note, and like 5 days late, I think JA's new hair cut makes her look more evil, more hardened. She probably looked more girly and feminine to the last jury (specifically a certain male juror), hopefully not so much anymore with this next jury.

i have never noticed that before, creeeepy

can't believe we are so close now,got a feeling something will 'come up' though as usual

The pure gibber of Jodi.___________In passing judgment on GB & Jason, something she is SO well qualified to do, she writes "To be technical, you have moved to the dark side---that of hate." I.T. workers and technicians everywhere will be edified to learn that in order to remain technical, they had better grasp dark from light, as well as the fifty shades in between. And function from that understanding.

She goes on to offer to renew relations if GB & Jason should ever move into the light. This is the woman who testified she "lied to everyone", reveled in debauchery and confessed to the most heinous of killings. So, in my reply I would ask where does she dwell? In a pool of illumination in solitary B403? Did she arrive there by treading in the light? Technically speaking, of course.

I had never been to the lindaparis blog before, I found it very interesting and helpful. This stood out to me;

cut and pasted from blog

"The thing that puzzles me, is the trip from her MOTHER, to Mesa, in April, two months before the murder. Why did her mother fly out? She claims that her mother arrived to help her “pack the truck.” Call me crazy…but if I have furniture to move, a younger sibling might be a better, HELPER, than a woman in her fifties!!! I think that TRAVIS called her mother, to convince her to MOVE OUT, and MOVE ON!!! She and her mother, “fought” and the truck didn’t get packed. She didn’t NEED her mother as she moved from one house to another, just months before!! That doesn’t make sense, no matter what you believe. "http://lindapariscrimeblog.com/?p=358

Travis calling JA's Mother makes sense to me. I don't think she was so close to her mom that her mom would just fly out like that for no reason. Can you imagine what Travis told her on the phone that made her jump on a plane? I know that JA is her daughter, but I know I just can't believe anyone would feel ok with what her daughter did. She sat there, listening to what the defense was saying about TA in front of his family who were visibly shattered and grieving and even giggled and carried on with her own sister. I'll stop now. I'm just floored by this family.

Thanks button is not enough for this post - I thought I had thought about every detail of this case through and through, but never gave this a second thought. I completely agree with you that Travis may have called CMJA's mother to help him convince her to take a hike. If Matt had called her mom before, there's every possibility Travis did, too. It makes so much sense. And if this was the case, her mother definitely knew how crazy her daughter was and should have stepped in as a parent to get her help. CMJA should never have been left to do what she did to Travis. MOO

I know she's going along for the ride for the defense. My point is what kind of mother or person does that? She was obviously alarmed enough to jump on a plane and rush over there for whatever reason. I could never look at those pictures of the slaughter and the evidence of premeditation and then take sides with anyone, no matter who it was. I couldn't stand to be in the same room as my daughter and I would be on my hands and knees praying for TA's family to find peace and closure, not sitting in court giggling and showing no respect for all involved. Sick sick sick in this family. And what are the younger siblings of JA learning? Shudder. We live in a crazy world.

I am a mother of two girls, two boys, ages 36 to 46. I would stand by my child no matter what. However, I would make it clear that I would be there for them without the giggles and smiles or lying about testimony. And I would not wear a purple domestic abuse ribbon!!!!! I would beg them to take responsibility and avoid a trial.

I would most certainly contact the victims family early on with my deepest regrets and likely cry myself to sleep for the remainder of my life wondering how my child could do such a horrible thing. That said, I do not believe my children could ever stoop so low, by God's grace, because all of them have a conscience, they know right from wrong and they value the rights and lives of others. But as I said, by God's grace.

I will never understand the reactions of Casey Anthony's mother or Jodi Arias's mother. Cindy Anthony was the worst. I suppose if you deny...deny...deny long enough, then the lie becomes truth to you. You are right Renee, it is sick, sick, sick.

I don't know about California, but in my state, and others, you cannot step in to get an adult child help. You can beg, plead, etc. but you cannot have them committed, especially if they have never been convicted of a crime before. I am sure she pled with Jodi to no avail. Jodi's dad said as much to Det Flores. He said something was wrong with Jodi as she would call all happy and the next day call and scream at her mother. Sounds bipolar to me. I am sure they knew she was a train wreck waiting to happen. But she left home as a teenager, likely a mean rebellious one. And they had other children to raise. This is all on Jodi as far as I am concerned. She is an adult. Some people are pure evil. Jodi is one of them. The family are all likely thankful it wasn't one of them who was murdered. Why the mom and aunt were acting out in court with smiles and giggles is anyone's guess. Inappropriate to say the least.

Excellent post Tuba. May I ask where you read Jodi's remarks so I can read it? Sort of entertaining and very laughable. If only she realized people don't care enough to hate her. They just want to see her locked away for life so there can be justice for Travis.

I just know I am not the only one who has noticed a conspicuous slide in the attitude of the killer's mother. She was frank, candid & spontaneous in her interview with Detective Flores, not at all comfortable with the attitudes and personality of her daughter. She was real, genuine and at a loss in understanding & dealing with her. When Arias was incarcerated, early days, she and her mother were not on good terms and the visits went badly. Rejection and manipulation over time took its toll. Arias won her over, it was on her terms or no terms, if the relationship was to continue. Now, it is as if the sensible & reasonable hub in S.A.'s head is disengaged from her actions and behavior. She is a member of the audience, pulling mindlessly but enthusiastically for her heroine in this show.

That's quite possible, but I think she did need her mother because she was completely broke. I think Arias' mother actually went there to make sure the money got spent on the move, but most of all, because she wanted to make sure she actually moved, a.s.a.p.

They'd been getting a lot of calls from Arias, including the call where she was really distressed about seeing Travis through the window with another woman. So, Sandy Arias must have had a good idea of what a state she was in, and (knowing her daughter) a good idea that something very bad might happen unless she got her out of there, fast.

Here are some relevant parts from William Arias' police interview:
"But she kept calling, she always called my wife more because my wife was more lenient with her and sent her the money -- I'm sure she sent a lot of money without me knowing, because I wouldn't send her nothing. I said, you know what? You can just, I said I could just go pick you up and bring you right back. I said I'll bring my truck and whatever fits in that is all you need to bring. And I said, you can just start all over again. And then finally, of course, she talked to my wife into going down there and blowing all that money on that truck and all her stuff... And she was always calling, crying that she needed more money, forking out more money. And when she moved here, we gave her, my wife went -- took time off work, went down there, rented her a U-haul, put out $2,500 to bring her back here. And what is she doing? She's leaving all her crap in the storage room. She didn't care. She was going to leave it there. We paid for it to come here."

http://s1287.photobucket.com/user/geevees/media/jatogeebee1_zpsbdcddc4b.jpg.html geevee posted this letter from Arias to Curious George and Jason from jail. Sleuths were having trouble reading the on-line copies of the letter, so geevee was kind enough to bring us her photobucket copy which can be enlarged with the "spyglass" along side.

Thanks tuba

She really does have a cheek to tell anyone to be honest with themselves when she is a compulsive liar.

Tuba, thank you. I just read the entire letter. It is so disturbing on so many levels, I don't know where to begin. Saying Jodi is delusional would be an understatement.

Thanks. I totally forgot this part of his interview. How enlightening. So Jodi's mom was her enabler all along!

*** Electronically Filed ***

RULING
The Court has considered the Request for Camera Coverage and Modification of May 21,
2014 Ruling filed August 21, 2014 and the oral argument conducted on September 15, 2014.

In the request, various media outlets seek a court order authorizing broadcast of video
coverage of the court proceedings each trial day to begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of each
trial day’s proceedings. The State does not object to the motion. Defendant objects for reasons
stated during oral argument on September 15, 2014 and in sealed proceedings and pleadings
previously filed on the issue of live media broadcast of the trial. The Court previously ruled on
the issue of live broadcast of the trial by sealed minute entries dated November 14, 2013 and
May 21, 2014.

During oral argument on September 15, 2014, counsel for the defendant stated the
mitigation witnesses for the defendant had been assured there would be no live broadcast of the
penalty trial. He further stated that if the penalty trial is broadcast, most of the defendant’s
mitigation witnesses will not participate in the proceedings for fear of being harassed and/or
threatened. Defense Counsel also orally requested the Court revoke the media’s intervenor status.

The Court affirms all finding made in its rulings dated November 14, 2013 and May 21,
2014. The minute entries containing these rulings were sealed to protect the witnesses, jurors,
attorneys and the defendant’s right to a fair and impartial jury for the penalty phase retrial. This
Court believes the orders contained in those minute entries provide for the least restrictive media
access to the trial that will protect the defendant’s right to a fair penalty phase retrial. Nothing
presented on September 15, 2014 alters the findings made in those minute entries.

A broadcast delay of 30 minutes after trial has finished each day will not diminish or eliminate the likelihood
of harm noted in the court’s previous rulings. In fact, the avowal by defense counsel regarding
the participation of mitigation witnesses if the proceedings are broadcast supplements the court’s
findings in its previous orders.

The Court is mindful of its obligation to allow public and media access to the trial. That
access should not include live broadcast of the trial prior to a verdict for the reasons addressed in
previous sealed proceedings. The public and media may attend the penalty phase trial each day.
The media will be permitted to videotape the trial each day using their own equipment. The
videotaped recordings may be played after a verdict has been reached. During the trial, Court
policy allows the media to “tweet” from the courtroom
. A still camera has been authorized to be
in the courtroom during the trial. At the conclusion of the trial, the Court’s FTR recordings will
be available to the public following a public record request and payment of required fees. In the
event there are insufficient seats in the courtroom, Maricopa County Superior Court
Administration has authorized an overflow room for those who wish to view the trial.
For the reasons set forth above,

IT IS ORDERED denying the Request for Camera Coverage and Modification of May
21, 2014 Ruling filed August 21, 2014.

The Court finds revoking the media’s intervenor status is not appropriate or necessary.

IT IS ORDERED denying the defendant’s request to revoke the media’s intervenor
status.

Geevee, thank you for sharing your photobucket. I referenced it quite a bit during the trial & had forgotten about it. Very useful information! Thanks again.
So, no live coverage? Too bad, but it'll do. One week & counting to jury selection. About time...

YoN
I don't even understand that ha

The way I read it as it says coverage can be play with a 30 min delay after each trial day the it goes on to say no video til after a verdict

Perhaps I am just having a slow day
